Email Sign On lets members sign in to your forum with a password or with a one time login code sent to their email address. The forum owner chooses which of these two methods appear on the login page, or turns on both. If your forum also uses Single Sign On, see Single sign on methods for those options.
Choose the Email Sign On methods
- Log in to your Website Toolbox account.
- Open Settings → Single Sign On.
- Turn on Email Sign On if it is not already on. Two switches appear underneath it: Password and Login code.
- Turn Password on to show the password field on the login page.
- Turn Login code on to let members sign in with a 6 digit code sent to their email address instead of a password.
- Click Save.
At least one of the two switches must stay on. Forums that were set up before these switches existed keep both Email Sign On methods until you change them.
What your members see
- Password and Login code both on (the default): the login page shows the password field, and members can click Have a login code emailed to you to use a code instead.
- Password only: members sign in with their username or email address and password, exactly as before.
- Login code only: the login page shows a single Send login code button. After it is pressed, the member enters the 6 digit code from the email to sign in. No password field is shown.
The login code is emailed to the address on the member's account, so members must have a working email address on their profile. If members report that codes never arrive, ask them to check their spam folder, and verify your forum's sending domain by following Connect your email.
