To disable the chat room or the chat messenger, follow the directions below:
- Log in to your Website Toolbox account.
- Click the Settings link.
- Click the Add-ons link.
- Uncheck the Chat Room option to remove the chat room link from your forum's navigation, or uncheck the Messenger option to turn off the floating instant messenger at the bottom of your forum's pages.
- Save your settings.
What the chat room and messenger are
The Chat Room option adds a Chat Room link to your forum's main navigation. Clicking it opens a real-time chat room where all online members can talk at once, like a group conversation. Unchecking the option removes the link from the navigation.
The Messenger option displays a floating instant messenger along the bottom of your forum's pages. Members can use it to have a live one-on-one conversation with another member who is currently browsing the forum, without leaving the page they are on. Unchecking the option removes the messenger bar.
Both are separate from your forum's private Messages system, which lets members write to each other like email. Messages are turned on or off with the Messages option in the Users settings tab, not in Add-ons. See What's the difference between messages and the instant messenger? for more detail.
