A promo code gives a user a discount on one of your pricing plans. The user enters the code on the payment page of your forum before paying, and the discount is applied to the price of the plan.

Creating a promo code

Promo codes are created in your Stripe account and are picked up by your forum automatically:

1. Log in to your Stripe account at dashboard.stripe.com.
2. Open Coupons and create a coupon for the discount you want to offer, either a percentage off or a fixed amount off.
3. Open Promotion Codes and create a promotion code for that coupon. You can limit how many times it can be used, set an expiration date, or deactivate it later.
4. Return to your forum. A Promo Code box is shown on the payment page of your plans.

Promo codes are tied to your Stripe account, so Stripe must be enabled as a payment provider. The Promo Code box is shown for plans billed for a term longer than one day, such as monthly or yearly plans.

A user applying the code

1. The user opens the paid area of your forum or the Billing page of their account.
2. The user enters the code in the Promo Code box and clicks Apply.
3. The discounted price is shown, and the user continues with the payment.

If a code is invalid, inactive, or expired, the user is told which of those applies, and the price stays unchanged.
