Making a category private to only a few users

Please follow the instructions below to create a private category which is only accessible to a few members of your forum:

Step 1: You need to create a user group for these few users by following the instructions below:

  1. Log in to your Website Toolbox account.
  2. Click the Services link toward the top of the page on the right side.
  3. In the Services menu, click Forum.
  4. Click the Users link.
  5. In the Users menu, click the Group Permissions link.
  6. Click on the New User Group button.
  7. Choose the settings for your user group.
  8. Save your settings.

Step 2: Move the users into the custom user group you created in Step 1.

  1. Log in to your Website Toolbox account.
  2. Click the Services link toward the top of the page on the right side.
  3. In the Services menu, click Forum.
  4. Click the Users link
  5. In the Users menu, click the Group Permissions link.
  6. Click the Manage link next to the Registered user group.
  7. In the Manage menu, click the Users link.
  8. Check the checkbox next to the users you would like to move and select Change Additional User groups from the drop down.
  9. Select the Custom user group you have created in step 1 and check Add these groups to the user's additional user groups.
  10. Save your settings.

Step 3: Setup the private category.

  1. Log in to your Website Toolbox account.
  2. Click the Services link toward the top of the page on the right side.
  3. In the Services menu, click Forum.
  4. Click the Content link.
  5. In the Content menu, click the Categories link.
  6. Next to the category you want to setup as private, click on the Manage link and then select the Privacy link.
  7. Uncheck the check boxes next to the user groups that you want to prevent from viewing the category.
  8. Close the Category Privacy dialog window.
