Embedding a forum into your Shopware store

Shopware is a powerful open-source e-commerce platform used by thousands of online stores worldwide. It includes a built-in CMS called Shopping Experiences that lets you design custom pages with drag-and-drop content blocks. But like most e-commerce platforms, it doesn't include a built-in community forum or discussion feature.

That's where Website Toolbox comes in. You can embed a fully featured discussion forum directly into your Shopware store using an HTML content block, or simply link to your forum from your store's navigation. Either way, you get user accounts, moderation tools, and real-time conversations.

This works really well for:

  • Product feedback and feature requests
  • Customer support communities
  • Brand ambassador programs
  • Pre-sale Q&A discussions
  • Wholesale and B2B buyer forums
  • User-generated product reviews
  • Niche hobby or enthusiast communities

This step-by-step guide walks you through the process:

Step-by-Step: Add Your Forum

Option A: Embed the Forum

  1. Visit shopware.com and log in to your Shopware administration panel. If you don't have a store yet, you can sign up for a free trial or download the Community Edition.
  2. In the admin sidebar, go to ContentShopping Experiences to open the page builder.
  3. Click Create new layout to start a new page, or select an existing layout you want to edit. Choose a layout type that fits your needs (e.g., a landing page or custom page).
  4. Get your Website Toolbox embed code:
    1. Log in to your Website Toolbox account or create a new forum if you don't already have one.
    2. Go to Integrate → EmbedEmbed your forum and copy the embed code.
  5. In the Shopping Experiences layout editor, drag an HTML content block from the block panel into your page layout. If you don't see an HTML block, look for a Text block and switch its editor to code/HTML mode.
  6. Paste your Website Toolbox embed code into the HTML block. The forum will render inside the block on your store page.
  7. Click Save to save the layout. Then assign this layout to a category or page in your Shopware storefront by going to Categories and selecting the page where you want the forum to appear.
  8. Click Publish to deploy your changes to the live store. Copy the URL of your published Forum page from your browser's address bar.
  9. Go back to Website Toolbox and paste your Shopware page URL into the Where is the forum embedded? field in the Integrate → Embed section.

Option B: Link to the Forum

  1. Visit shopware.com and log in to your Shopware administration panel.
  2. In the admin sidebar, go to ContentShopping Experiences or Categories to manage your store's navigation and pages.
  3. Get your Website Toolbox forum URL:
    1. Log in to your Website Toolbox account or create a new forum if you don't already have one.
    2. Copy your forum URL.
  4. Create a new category or navigation entry in your Shopware store. Set the entry type to Link and paste your Website Toolbox forum URL as the link target. Set the link to open in a new tab.
  5. Click Save to publish the navigation change. The forum link will now appear in your store's navigation menu.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Shopware have a built-in forum feature?

No, Shopware does not currently have a native forum feature. However, you can easily add a forum to your Shopware store using Website Toolbox, either by embedding it directly into a page with an HTML content block or by linking to it from your navigation.

Should I embed the forum or link to it?

Both work well. Embedding keeps users on your Shopware store page and integrates the forum seamlessly into your store layout. Linking is simpler to set up and opens the forum in its own page, which can be a better experience on mobile devices. Choose whichever fits your workflow.

Can I customize the look of my embedded forum?

Yes. Website Toolbox provides a theme editor with a variety of themes you can choose from to match your Shopware store's design. You can customize colors, fonts, layout settings, and more to create a seamless look.

Can I make the forum private or members-only?

Absolutely. You can restrict forum access to logged-in users, create invite-only communities, or charge for access with subscription plans. Combined with the SSO integration, you can seamlessly connect your Shopware customer accounts with the forum.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Shopware's Shopping Experiences page builder lets you add an HTML content block by simply dragging it into your layout and pasting your embed code. No coding knowledge required.

Will the forum work on mobile devices?

Yes. Website Toolbox forums are fully responsive and work great on phones, tablets, and desktops. If you embed the forum, the iframe adapts to the container size automatically. Website Toolbox also offers a mobile app so your members can participate from their phones.
