Embedding a forum into your Adobe Portfolio website

Adobe Portfolio is a portfolio website builder included with Adobe Creative Cloud. It lets photographers, designers, and other creatives showcase their work with gallery-style layouts and a custom domain. Like most website builders, it doesn't include a built-in community forum or discussion feature.

That's where Website Toolbox comes in. You can give your visitors a place to connect around your work with a full-featured discussion forum: user accounts, moderation tools, and real-time conversations. Adobe Portfolio's Embed module only accepts iframes from a limited set of providers, so the Website Toolbox embed code can't be added directly to a Portfolio page. The reliable way to add your forum is to link to it with a Button module, which takes just a few clicks.

This works really well for:

  • Photographers showcasing their work
  • Graphic designers and illustrators
  • Digital artists and animators
  • Videographers and filmmakers
  • Writers and content creators
  • Freelancers building a client base
  • Creative studios and agencies

This step-by-step guide walks you through the process:

Step-by-Step: Add Your Forum

Option A: Embed the Forum

Adobe Portfolio's Embed module only accepts iframe embed codes from a limited set of providers, such as YouTube, Vimeo, and SoundCloud. It doesn't accept embed codes from other services, and it rejects plain URLs and HTML with the error "This embed code is not valid". Because the Website Toolbox embed code uses a script tag, it can't be added to an Adobe Portfolio page, so direct embedding isn't currently supported by Adobe Portfolio.

For a forum that's one click away from your portfolio, use Option B: Link to the Forum below. A button that opens your forum gives visitors the same full-featured community experience, and the forum keeps its own responsive design on every device.

Option B: Link to the Forum

  1. Get your Website Toolbox forum URL:
    1. Log in to your Website Toolbox account or create a new forum if you don't already have one.
    2. Copy your forum URL from your browser's address bar.
  2. Visit portfolio.adobe.com and open the site where you want to add the forum. Adobe Portfolio is included with Adobe Creative Cloud, and an active subscription is required to publish your site.
  3. Navigate to the page where you want the forum button, or create a new page.
  4. Click the + icon and choose Button.
  5. Hover over the button, click the pencil icon, and click Edit Button.
  6. Change the button Text to Forum or Join the Community.
  7. Under Link To, choose External URL and paste your Website Toolbox forum URL.
  8. Click Update Live Site in the left-hand toolbar to push your changes live. If this is your first publish, click Publish Site instead.

You can also link to your forum from an image: hover over the image, click the pencil icon, click Add Link, and paste your forum URL. Adding a Forum button is the fastest way to get your community started.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Adobe Portfolio have a built-in forum feature?

No, Adobe Portfolio doesn't include a native forum or discussion feature. You can add a full-featured community forum with Website Toolbox and link to it from your portfolio, or embed it on platforms that accept third-party embed codes.

Should I embed the forum or link to it?

On Adobe Portfolio, linking is the recommended approach. The Embed module only accepts iframes from a limited set of providers, so forum embed codes from other services are rejected. A Forum button that links to your Website Toolbox forum takes seconds to set up and gives visitors the same community experience. Embedding works great on most other website builders.

Can I customize the look of my forum?

Yes. Website Toolbox provides a theme editor with a variety of themes you can choose from to match your site's design. You can customize colors, fonts, layout settings, and more to create a seamless look.

Can I make the forum private or members-only?

Absolutely. You can restrict forum access to logged-in users, create invite-only communities, or charge for access with subscription plans. Website Toolbox gives you full control over who can see and post in your forum.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Adding your forum takes just a few clicks. Copy your forum URL, add a Button module in Adobe Portfolio, paste the URL, and publish. No coding required.

Will the forum work on mobile devices?

Yes. Website Toolbox forums are fully responsive and work great on phones, tablets, and desktops. Website Toolbox also offers a mobile app so your members can participate from their phones.
