step daughter wedding

My step daughter is getting married in June. I've tried to be involved and offered help planning, searching and organizing this big day. I have been married to her father for 13 plus years. Question: There are 3 other children one daughter older than the bride and 1 son younger 1 step son. The bride has indicated that my daughter, her (stepsister) won't be wearing the same dresses as the other bridesmaids because she isn't part of the wedding party. Is this proper etiquette? Should I ask about the boys (one brother and one step brother) wearing tuxedos?

Forum: WEDDING ETIQUETTE

Who helps bride pick out her dress?

How do I tell my future daughter-in-law I don't wish to go with her when she goes for her wedding dress? My son & daughter are both getting married, within 3 months of each other, & I feel the mother of the bride should go, not the mother of the groom. Besides, I don't want too because I will probably compare her dress with my daughter's & it will cause hurt feelings for my son. He already thinks I should do the same things for my future daughter-in-law as I do for my own daughter, & I just can't do that. I still believe the mother of the bride & the mother of the groom have different roles. Am I wrong?

Forum: WEDDING ETIQUETTE

My niece is getting married April 19, 2008 and has asked my daughter to be in the wedding as a bridesmaid. She decided to have the bridesmaids buy a dress that was a black cocktail type dress so they could wear it again in the future. The dress was $150 and on top of that we had to buy the same shoes the other girls were getting and have the dress altered. All together I have spent about $200. I told my sister-in-law that my daughter would be wearing the dress at Easter (our Easter dress budget was shot after buying this dress) and she proceeded to tell me that it was not proper to wear the dress before the wedding because the first time the dress was to be worn was at the weddding. Is this right?

Forum: WEDDING ETIQUETTE
