I Just joined this group, I have been looking at the various alli sites for information about the new "remedy" for those nasty treatment effects. Met a lady from Ft. Meyers Fl who has been taking alli and also a newly developed product which completely eliminates that rear end problem. She said her direct sales company is looking at acquiring it from the people that invented it and she was testing it with great results.....has anyone else heard of this.....it would be great if such a thing existed. Wayne

I am having a great experience with Alli! Just bought my refill bottle
and was interviewed by the Pharmacy about my experience.
After finishing the starter kit I had lost 3 1/2 inches off of each thigh
and 3 inches off my hips
As far as side affects, I only had one bad experience. I was ready
to sit down to dinner, took my capsule, then received an important
phone call and had to leave. (Never got to eat.) I had intestinal pain
for about 45 minutes due to not eating after taking the capsule, but I
certainly cannot blame anybody but myself for that!
I think Alli is a God send!

Just a general update.
I started on Alli when it came out and stopped it a couple of days ago.
After 3 days, I had that "special" experience but it was minimal. It wakes you up and makes you recognize there may be an issue with too much fat. After that I actually became constipated in a minor way. Always feeling like you need to go, but not. No unusual movements or discharges. I even "pressed the limit" to cause a reaction. None.
I did go on a low fat diet, I did not lose any weight I would attribute to Alli.
My bottom line is, why take the drug, risk an "accident", when, for me, the results were zero to none?
By the way, here's my calculation on what should/could happen..........
The rule is no more then 3 pills/day, therefore 3 meals.
No more then 15 grams of fat per meal.
There are 9 calories/gram fat.
Alli may allow you to pass one-half the fat.
3500 calories/pound

3 meals x 15 grams/fat x 9 grams fat/calorie x 1/2 = 202.5 calorie reduction/day
202.5/3500 = 0.0579 pounds averted/day (that's 0.05 pounds, not one-half)
That's an additional pound, at most, every 17.3 days. Is that a diet plan? Just skip the Snickers!!

Actually, from a medical point of view, a loss of 1.5-2.0 a month is probably appropriate. not for most of us though.

Anyway, I gave it a try and it may work for others. I think the real benefit is that you scare yourself into a low fat diet.

Hi:

After two weeks on Alli (with a sporadic exercise schedule) I have lost four pounds. I've been careful about my fat intake, had two minor incidents but nothing that would make me quit taking the pills, and am very happy with the results. I've been unable to lose any appreciable weight on other diets, so 4 pounds in two weeks is very good for me.

Anyone else want to share?

I participated in the study for the new low dose orlistat (Alli) and I was pleased with the results it made me more aware of what I was eating. I lost about 14 lbs in about 4 months, I think that my weight lose would have been greater if I had did an exercise program with it.

I can't wait for this product to be released. I feel like this could be the answer. I exercise and maintain a fairly healthy diet but it seems I need a big push these days....How does everyone else feel who is over 30 years old?

I have used Zenical for a while and love it. When my insurance would no longer pay for it, I went to the Internet to purchase it. I have been waiting since I heard news there would be an over the counter drug provided. What are the requirements for a person to be considered for the First Team? I would like to try it as soon as possible. I know the result I had from Zenical and even with the side effects, I still love the drug.

I have been on prescription Xenical for 241 days. My weight loss has been 47 lbs. My glucose numbers have dropped dramatically (mostly in the first three months) and my insulin injections have dropped 67%. Yes, the dietary effects were a problem in the first month which would discourage many and cause them to drop the medication. Keeping an accurate journal of kcalorie and fat intake was the key to successful weight loss and avoidance of the worst side effects (I refer to them as "the Trotskys"). Yet under the suggested diet regime I never felt undernourished or overly hungry.

My current BMI is 27.9 and hope to reduce my weight by a further 20 lbs. While in the first month my weight loss was an amazing 3 lbs per week it is now 1 lb per week. I have a prescription for Xenical which runs out on April 1 (Fools Day).

This is not a commercial pitch for Roche (Xenical) or Glaxo (Alli). I live in Canada where I have not had any word as to whether approval by the Canadian authorities of Alli is anticipated. However I do live only 20 minutes away from the US / Canada border crossing.

I see my endocrinologist who prescribed the Xenical at the end of this month. I don't believe that he can prescribe OTC Alli since it is not approved in Canada. Ergo, my two drug insurance plans aren't likely to pay for it either. (Yes where I live seniors get taxpayer funded free prescription drugs with a small out of pocket dispensing fee. Some very expensive drugs are not covered by this drug plan but are covered by my employer's drug plan for retirees. The co-pay dispensing fee is also covered by this second plan).

What intrigues me is that Alli (60 mg Orlistat) is claimed to have 85% of the effectiveness of prescription Xenical (120 mg Orlistat) at one-third the price in the US.

The question remains that if I purchase Alli (out of pocket), import and declare it at the border can the employer/retiree drug insurance plan deny my claim for Alli if I have a prescription for the higher dose (Xenical) of the same drug (Orlistat) ? I will have the answer as soon as I can get my hands on this Glaxo product (hopefully in June when I pay a visit to Philadelphia PA).

I hope that someone on the list will post notice of the arrival of Alli at their local US franchised pharmacy and note its price and quantity.
