South Caribbean in September??

Even though it is hurricane season, does anyone have any thoughts or advice on honeymooning in the Caribbean in Sept? Are there any islands better than others? We had heard that the south Caribbean is more protected and hurricanes are less of a risk there. True??
Forum: Previous Messages

how to tastefully get the word out

I am having a hard time coming up with a way to tastefully get the word out about our registry. We are having a very simple and intimate wedding ceremony where it will just be the two of us. We are doing a wedding/honeymoon.

Because we aren't inviting anyone, how do we say "oh by the way, if you want to give us a gift......"?

Any suggestions would be helpful.......
Forum: Etiquette

How to plan a shower around a honeymoon registry

I'm so excited to be using thebigday.com as our primary registry for our wedding, but I'm really at a loss as to how you would plan a shower around this type of registry.

I'm looking for ideas so I can help steer my MOH in the right direction. She was thinking Jack n' Jill shower, but my fiance has no desire to attend so I don't think that's the best option.

I saw one idea where people brought gifts representing what they bought from the registry (Mini airplane and can of peanuts representing the airfare) and then the bride-to-be tries to guess what they bought, but I don't want to have my guests buying another gift just to try and get me to guess what the primary gift was. I've just always been to typical showers where the whole thing revolves around opening actual gifts. I need suggestions on how to fill the time with fun things, but show appreciation for the gifts that were purchased off our honeymoon registry.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
Forum: Registries

The Perfect Wedding Song

I heard this really great r&b song at my brothers wedding and I thought it was perfect for weddings. Its called "say I do" and its by carl thomas off his album -so much better. I mean, the name itself makes it great for weddings, but its also very soulful and it almost made me cry at the wedding (www.myspace.com/carlthomas)

-Sam
Umg
Forum: Registries

Is Bali safe?

Hi All-
My fiancee and I have been very excited to go to Bali for our honeymoon this July but have been warned against high terrorist alerts, one of the strongest in the world. I hate to dictate my life on such things but, at the same time, the little research we've done is not comforting. We're drawn to Bali because it is not only supposed to be gorgeous but also a cultural mecca. We'd like to be somewhere exotic, not just a beach, and filled with the arts Any thoughts?
Thanks so much,
sab
Forum: Travel

Layout & Guestbook

Hi! I have shown this website to some people who aren't exactly huge computer geeks like myself (like my mother!) and she was confused immediately because of the layout. She wasn't quite sure where to look first and didn't know what she should click on. Even my fiance (who isn't bad with computers at all!) was a bit lost as to where he was supposed to login. I think that the site could be made more user friendly if the important things stood out more, maybe through color or size? Or if there was an index page which had only 'wedding guest enter here' or 'couple's login' ONLY and once they're in then all the other side things would appear? Just a suggestion but I think that the site would be less intimidating and clearer to the not-so-computer-savvy user.

One more suggestion, if there were a dedicated guestbook for guests to sign, I think that would be great! If I were, for example, thinking of getting a gift for a friend, I would be more encouraged to do it when I see someone I know who has already bought something. There would be a guestbook entry like 'Wow, great site! Hope you enjoy the massage we got you! - cousin Allie.' Then I'd think, 'hey, Allie got them a massage. And Aunt Laura actually used the website too....and....' And so I think that would kind of make it more 'community-like' and people would even visit the site repeatedly so that they can check the latest on who's bought what...a great marketing tool I think! That's it :)
Forum: Registries
