So...not sure what is happening with the TIR staff now but our team is already talking/planning for the race. One of the things we always talk about is how we finished only nine seconds before the Master's category winners.
As were are in the Veterans category it wasn't really an issue but what if....?
Here's what we think...we understand that the prologue is meant to be a leisurely jog and pictures need to be taken at the end but what if the start mat was placed at the beginning of the actual first leg (not the prologue) and the finish mat was positioned before the stop for pictures at the end. We believe that this easy solution will avoid any time loss due to non-performance issues and would result in a more accurate overall competition time.

TIR Warm Up Run

Hope all is well you and yours. We are anxiously awaiting TIR 09.
As a matter of fact, our team is strongly considering doing a warm up relay in preparation for the real deal in March.

The Home Run

It was a beautiful day

For the Championship game

Two bitter rivals

Talent about the same

It was a very long year

Of some losing and winning

Fighting hard through the division

Giving all every inning

The game teeter tottered

One team scoring then the other

Each taking turns at the plate

One player after another

It all finally came down

To the final at bat

Two strikes and three balls

Catcher and pitcher need to chat

The decision was made

They would go with a slider

Then the crack of the bat

Echoed like a supercollider

It was going, going, gone

It was over the fence

The runner rounded first

The joy was immense

But somewhere between

Second base and third

The runner collapsed

The scream could be heard

The leg was surely broken

It snapped with a crack

The team ran to give aid

But the Ump held them back

According to the rule book

And not open for debate

A player cant be assisted

By another team mate

So the game could end there

No one could disagree

They could call it a tie

Based on a technicality

And in sports as in life

Some folks can be short sighted

Taking what is not earned

And in fact be delighted

But then there are those

With a much stronger conviction

To do what is right

Without fear of crucifixion

As amazingly was the case

On this day in question

As the opposing team

Without any hesitation

Picked up the runner

And carried him home

And were happy to do it

As if he was one of their own

So I wonder who really won

On this God given day

The team with the most points

Or those who did it His way?

Team Suggestions

I was reading that one team was waiting to register until they got the money from others. What I did this past year was have me (team captain) pay for most of the team's expenses (hotel, gas, shirts, etc). At the end, I had each team member reimburse me for those expenses PLUS the entry fee for the next year. Worked well. I paid for our 2009 registration with no money out of my pocket.

Team size of top teams

Just doing a little planning for next year. Lots of data from the inaugural run is available but I haven't seen anything that lists the number of members on each team. If that info is out there somewhere I would appreciate it if someone would point me in the right direction. If it's not and it is not too much trouble would someone from the TIR staff respond to this posting with at least the top ten fastest team sizes. I'm just checking the theory that larger teams have an advantage resulting in faster overall time (or not).

We Were Chicked!

I hate to admit this

Cause it kinda makes me sick

But on Leg Thirteen

I know we were Chicked

He was our fastest runner

And we just knew he would waste her

We were so sure of ourselves

We even bet a cerveza

I said our guy runs a 3:13 marathon

He just proved that he can

They said their girl only ran 3:40

During a full Iron Man!

I thought to myself

ummmholy crap

Now would be a good time

For me to shut my trap

But it was too late

I had gotten their attention

And oh by the way

Did I fail to mention

That to say she was good looking

Would be a gross understatement

But she looked even better

As she glided across the pavement

So Johnny started running

And I bet he was a prayin

In the name of the Father

And the Son, Holy Spirit, Amen

When they got to the exchange point

And they both pressed their Garmin

We stood there in awe

Not knowing what to say then

God had showed us that He

Has a good sense of humor, I reckon

Because that Colorado girl

Had won by a second

So well be back next year

And we plan to run fast

But there may be a point

Where we will get passed

Given the option of the rear view

Of some Tom, Harry or Dick

To tell you the truth

Id much rather be CHICKED!

So what have you been up to ????

So how is everyone doing out there? Fully recovered yet?

I did do the Prickly Pear 50K on Saturday in San Antonio. It was a hot one for sure but I stayed hydrated throughout by stopping at every aid station for ice and water.
It made for a slow going but enabled me to finish with no problems at all. What cost me the most time though was going off course with a group of about 20 for 2.2 miles. I was in the middle of the pack and wasnt looking at markings, just doing the lemming thing. When the lead runner went off course, we all did. So at the finish my mileage was 33.2. I was feeling good all things considered and for having just run the TIR.
I was running again on Monday with just the normal muscle soreness one would expect after doing a 50K.
So all in all I put this down in the plus column.

So what have you been up to????
