Subwoofer Parametric EQ

Does anyone have any recommendations on EQs? I've been trying to find the Goldline Programmable EQ on their website but have had no luck. Certainly looking for a simple mutiband parametric EQ for subs that I could use reliably to augment systems with limited abilities such as those with A/V Receivers.

Important features would of course be narrow bandwidths and multiple filter between 0Hz and 100Hz. Constantly variable with stacking ability would be great too. Any suggestions of tried and true gear and or methods would be great.

Thanks all
Forum: General Audio Measurements

I'm getting an error when trying to use my brand new unit.

The preamp is not responding to the software. I have shot an email to tech support also but assume they are off for the weekend. Can this be anything other then a DOA?

I've got lights on at the 48V and output locations and the POWER LED is dim at best regardless of whether I plug in just usb or if I use the supplied power adapter.

Please help, thanks!

Forum: TEF 20+ 25

MLS or TDS, that is the question...

Hi everyone,

I do acoustical measurements in halls and rooms; studios, control rooms, home theaters...

What would be the best software for me; MLS or TDS?

What about the following I read on Gold-Line's web site:

Combined with your personal computer and the appropriate software, you can transform the TEF into a TDS analyzer, noise analyzer, real time analyzer, and now, a maximum-length sequence analyzer. So, you no longer have to choose between TDS and MLS, as long as you choose TEF.

Sales and support are not able to answer my question...

Thanks,

Mike

Forum: TEF 20+ 25

OUCH! Man are these things loud. While non-disclosures limit what I can say, a Hyperspike is really loud and can project sound really far.
TEF Software Promotion at TEF Class

TEF Software Promotion at TEF Class

In past years we loaded all of the software onto computers for TEF Class, but when you left you had to delete it. So, you learned the software, but then when you got home you did not have a chance to try it in the field.

Lou has come up with a new program whereby we can leave the computer on your TEF Machine for 60 days as a free trial period. So when you come to TEF Class in Dallas, you get the full load of programs, and then you have a couple of months to work with them to see if they are useful.

We have debated this internally as we like to sell software at TEF Class, but we recognize that it is tough to tell what is worth the investment until you have had a chance to use it in the field. So, lets give it a try. Apps for the class are on this forum, or call Marj at Gold Line.

Greg Miller

TEF Division

(203) 938-2588

Forum: General Audio Measurements

Dream Team @ TEF Class

Dream Team at TEF Class

Every now and then the planets align and we get a really strong instructional staff in one place at one time. This year we are going to have Blair McNair who has taught more TEF Classes than perhaps any other human being, but more than that, he has spent more time in the field with a TEF than most users. When I took my first TEF Class back in the Crown days, I remember being awed by his experience with a TEF. That has not changed over the following decade. TEF is a tool. A TEF Jedi is a person who is skilled in how to use that tool to utilize the programs to look a bit deeper.

Then there is Professor Doug Jones. Doug certainly holds the record for most persons ever taught TEF, as they own many TEF Machines at Columbia College where he has been responsible for TEF back to the days when we had big floppy disks and cryptic programming languages. From bringing together nearly a 100 top consultants in Chicago to explore Intelligibility to numerous Level II Classes, Doug has a unique ability to "Teach" acoustical measurement.

Then there is Russ Berger, a gentlemen who goes all the way to the beginning. An original TDS license holder in the days of Richard Heyser, Russ discoveries in recording studio technology changed our world. His academic and real world credentials bring him a unique perspective on how we perceive sound. And, when in Dallas, one is well advised to keep a sharp eye for Johnson Knowles, also of RBDG.

Jim Young has been a friend of many years. From his days in Contracting to Consulting, Jim like Blair is a guy who likes big rooms. Each of them have dedicated their lives to bringing the Word to congregations. Like many TEF Jedis, Jim combines a strong engineering background with having paid his dues through many hours of looking at the design of systems and how the combination of electro-acoustical and acoustical interactions define the experience.

Curt Taipale is another name many of you know. Through SoundCheck.com he revolutionized how the audio community spoke with the operators of sound systems, and his company Taipale Media Systems is a major force in church design. Before Taipale Media Systems, he was employed with Blair at the TEF Division at Crown International.

TEF Class ultimately has something to do with running a TEF analyzer, and it is a good place to learn software and basic skills. TEF Class, however, is about the experience people perceive in an acoustical space. What do we want to know about the Room? And, what do we do about it. For 20 years TEF Class has been a place where professionals came to spend 3 days among their brethren talking about the hard issues and how to solve real world problems.

There is still time to sign up, and as this will be the only TEF Class in 2008 use it or lose it. It is rare to be able to put so much talent in one place. We hope that you will both enjoy, and spread the knowledge. And, if you have more people than TEF Machines, we can often provide a loaner machine for additional students.

Greg Miller

TEF Division

(203) 938-2588

Forum: General Audio Measurements

Hi,

I just wander if you could give us the information about some other TEF 25 french users, so we can get in relation and exchange directly about TEF.

Thanks

FRANK

Forum: Buy - Sell -Work

resolution on MLS FFT analysis

Hi everyone,

I wish all of you a happy new year, and best wishes !

We have dig resolution matters on TEF25, regarding the FFT window size.
For example, if we can give the MLS window a 8.05ms lenght without incorporating wall reflexions, it gives you 386 samples of analysis and leads to a 124Hz resolution.
Am I right so far ?

Then , first question:
assuming samples are multiples of 2 to the power n, what about these 368 samples ? (as it falls between 2 to the power 8 and 2 to the power 9)

Second question:
when parameter "FFT lenght" is set to one, we will get, in the FFT-calculated frequency response, a straight line between values at 124 and 248 Hz.

If we set FFT length to 9 for example, this "kind of" smooth the frequency response... and sometimes it generates (or reveal??) ripples.

So, what exactly stands this parameter for ? Does it extend time windowing ? Does it extrapolates FFT calculation ? Other ?

Thanks for these answers.

FRANK

Forum: General Audio Measurements

Status of MLS?

So Guys, we've been trying to use MLS again (with TEF 25) and getting nowhere fast.. We've got core 6.8.5.22 and MLS 6.8.1.10... The MLS routines run but the levels reported in the frequency transform are completely unrealistic.. also, the 3D Test results in non-sense information. We would really like to be able to use MSL and post process for RT-60 decay, make 3D waterfall plots that actually look like they are working and generally be able to do anything that plots out results that look like they are valid.. Any update on when we might expect an update?? It was over a year ago that we were promised that MLS would be made a priority.. Just checkin in... thanks...

Forum: TEF 20+ 25

TEF25 on a MacBook

Okay, so I searched and found a couple of references to running TEF on a MacBook but they were both with bad results... Has anybody had any successful results using a TEF25 USB Preamp on a MacBook?? I'm seriously considering purchasing a Mac System, but I really want to know about this.. Thanks in advance..

Forum: TEF 20+ 25
