How to get Quality Exports?

Hi, My goal is to export animation files from SU Animate that are high enough quality to put them into an instructional video I am making.

My first several attempts have produced poor quality files--jagged lines, poor resolution--fuzzy and blurry. I exported as "DV" quality, tried checking and unchecking anti-alias, even went in and increased the resolutions way up (under "expert" box in "export" options). Still not good.

Any ideas for making an exported file that will look sharp and clean? If the video file could look as good as the SketchUp file looks on my screen I'd be happy. But I am getting nowhere near that quality. Is a high quality export possible?

Thanks! Rob

move a rotating object along path: can't get it right.

Hi all,

I am trying to animate a rotating object along a path, but I get unexpected results.
(A spinning wheel following a straight path for instance. Is that possible?)

I attached an example file to test : I want to spin the cube around its own centerpoint while moving in a straight line.
The file was set up the way I would think it would be correct . But it doesn't react as expected....
Maybe we would need the ability to 'nest' groups and paths within groups (or components) for that?

Thanks in advance,
Kwistenbiebel

[WISHLIST]: Animate components

Hi all,

A wish I would love to see fulfilled: the ability to not only animate groups but also components.

Why?
- easy duplicating of animated objects (components) with animation paths included.
- the ability to have more than one rotating object.
Currently it seems an object can only rotate around the centre of the global axes.
A component has the ability to have its own centre of rotation (one can position the axes locally for each component in SU. In that way, multiple rotating objects in 1 scene should be possible.

Or is it possible already, and did I miss that functionality by accident?

Cheers,
Kwistenbiebel

My latest animation: The Italian Job

importing a path/associations

i'd like to import a path from autocad because i have more precise control over the position of the path. when i import it i have no success in creating an animation path out of it....

also, i have tried to replicate the path in SU by tracing it on a different layer to no success.

the animation consists of driving a vehicle through a yard, up a ramp, into and through a building, and out...

the problem i believe i am running into is the associations with other elements of the drawing. ie the path lying on a face of an object.

in autocad, i can easily adjust the path to be elevated so it sits in the air, with no association to any object but i cannot convert it to a curve.

i can provide drawings if helpful

My works with Su Animate (+ Fryrender)

Hi all,

I recently learnt about the Su-Animate plugin and I must say I am thrilled. Some amazing possibilities there.

The created scene tab animations ( a scene tab for each animation frame) is very well suited for rendering the animation using Fry render.

These are two animations I created using the SU Animate/FryRender combo:

CityScape ballooning:
http://www.vimeo.com/1553167
(if you prefer youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abvz9U8hsF4fmt=18)

Passing train:
http://www.vimeo.com/1545109

I hope you like them.

Next thing for me will be learning how to set up our beloved Podium (still a jewel :) ) to render SuAnimate animations.

If someone could give me a hint how to set it up for Podium, I would appreciate it a lot.

Regards,
Kwistenbiebel

Camera with group; no go.

Hi, I have tried several times to make the camera move along following a group, it just does not work. No layers nor copies of the group are created. I use one group & one path.
If I set the animation to one of them, group (target or not) or camera (walk thru), all is fine. But both assigned to the same path, no success.
Even tried with the Test-9 file. No luck.

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG??!!

I just downloaded the trial version of SU Animate and I tried to recreate the simple animation they showed in the tutorial (a box moving along a path) but it won't work!

I created the path like they showed. I made a path, divided it, and clicked "Create Curve from Edges". Then I made a box and turned it into a group and placed it at the beginning of the path, but when I right clicked on the path I created the "Assign Group to Animate" button wasn't there.......WHERE IS IT?!

this is frustrating........
More about swinging doors

I mistakenly reported that you could not use arcs to animate the rotation of a group on it's axis. Wrong, Wrong, Wrong.

The Arc Tool will work to rotate groups on their axis. The trick is placing the arc correctly in relation to the group you want to animate (like a swinging door).

The center of a circular arc lies on the axis of rotation -- the radius is perpendicular to the axis. Therefore, for a swing door, one of the edges should be the center of the arc.

There is a subtle difference when rotating through an open curve instead of a closed circle.

The problem is the last edge in the arc. For the last edge, no rotation is animated, because there is no succeeding edge to align along. But, the result is that the door only gets translated along the last edge -- which blows the whole rotation effect.

The way around this is to draw an additional edge to the arc, so that the group will be rotated into alignment with it, but make it so small that the translation is not noticeable.

Attached model is an example. Run make scenes and play the animation to view it.
Hello. I am now using version 2.02.

When I use the software in a very basic model everything is ok.

When I try on a more detailed model, I can do everything until the final step when I try "make scenes".
