How does one beome an Initiate?

Hi there!
Yes, you definitely posted this in the right place!

There are a few different options for becoming an initiate, though, honestly, most Vodouisants (practitioners of Vodou) are not initiated! Even in Haiti the large majority of devout followers are not initiated.   Not being initiated does not mean that one cannot serve, become knowledgeable, and reap all the benefits of being a Vodouisant. Much in the same way one might be the most devout Catholic without becoming a priest or a nun, the same is true for Vodou/Voodoo.

So having said that here are some options for learning and deciding upon whether or you wish to become initiated:
1. I don't know if you are an actual client of ours, but if you are, you are then entitled to join our free teaching classes (which we will be starting up again - we had a little bit of a hiatus).   The classes are free for our clients. We teach many, many things about Vodou, magick, service to the lwa, etc.
2. You may want to consider coming to our convention in October to get some hands-on training and Vodou education. It is a really good way to learn and find out whether or not you wish to pursue this further.
3. Read, read, read. Sometimes it is hard to separate the fact from the fiction, but the more you study, the more you start to figure things out. Plus if you are in our classes, I can help clarify things for you.
4. If you figure out that initiation is for you, then you should study all the options available to you and decide what Vodou House is best for you. :-)
5. Stick around here! :-)   Our voodoo family has blogs and we teach on those, too - all of the blogs are listed up in the About Spellmaker Forum thread, I believe.

Commitment - keep in mind that the key to using affirmations - audio, written, or spoken - is commitment to your goal. Without a commitment to making the change or reaching your goal, affirmations are just words.

Repetition - repetition is the engine of affirmation success. For an affirmation to do its job in transforming your thoughts, it has to get at least equal time with the negative thoughts you want to replace.

How much/how often - speak, write, or listen to the first person affirmation 5-10 times and then repeat the second person affirmation the same number of times. Do this at least twice each day. Stay with the affirmation(s) for at least 30 days. Use them again if the old thoughts return.

How to use first person affirmations - Own the first-person version. Speak or listen as if you are speaking passionately to yourself.

How to know youre getting results - there are several criteria for recognizing an affirmations success.

The old thought, behavior, or performance disappears or lessens.
Your mood, thinking, behavior, or performance change in a positive direction.
The old thought, behavior, or performance appears and your thinking immediately answers with the affirmation. This is really exciting. Your old thought is I am stupid. You think this thought and immediately it is answered by your affirmation, I am highly intelligent.

Greetings dear ones!

Sorry I have been off the forum for awhile -- for whatever reason,
Yahoo! was giving me fits, but it seems to have sorted itself out.

I wanted to address something here. Many times during consultations,
people will ask me, "What else can I use to......?" Obviously "to"
do something to do with their case.

There are some things that I have been encouraging people to do when
they ask, and I thought I should share them here.

First off, a lot of times, as we all know, a case can go on longer
than any one of us would like it to. Often more castings are needed,
adjunct products, etc. Frankly, it can all add up!! I started to
realize that sometimes people overlook some choices that can keep the
energy going in their case and not cause them to keep spending,
spending, spending.... sigh. It really does take a bite sometimes!

Some of these things that I feel are underused are:

1. Cosmic Voodoo Egg kits: Folks, these kits are reusable until the
cows come home! As with other things, you use up the candles and
incense, but those are fairly inexpensive to replace. In love (an
other) cases, the Cosmic Voodoo Egg kit can be used as often as you
like, but you are not locked into a nine day ritual. And you can
KEEP using it. Obviously, it won't replace you having to do your
regular kits when you start, but if your case is one that seems to be
going on awhile, it is an excellent choice.

2. Voodoo Dolls -- either regular or deluxe. Again, here is
something that you can continue to use as long as you like by simply
replacing the candles and incense. I have recently counseled people
to use those dolls to tell everything to your HD that you would if
you could - send your HD those messages of love, etc. Remember, the
doll BECOMES your HD (in effect) and it really a great way to get
your point across.

3. Love charm - now this is something simple and something that you
can carry with you and do little chants and meditations throughout
the day. Extremely simple, but again, keeps that energy going.

4. Dream bags!!!!!!! Yep. And this especially includes the Magick
Dreams bag. This can be used to effectively have your HD dream of
you. With some practice, you can even micro-manage the dreams so
that your HD dreams of what it is you want them to do, how you want
the relationship to be, etc. Think about it, there is nothing more
powerful than waking up from a dream of YOU and how wonderful it was
to be with you in the dream. :-)

5. The Romantic Compatibility report I can do for you: This is a
detailed astrological report. The good thing about it is that it
points out your similarities and differences with your HD. This
definitely gives you something to work with in petitioning: If it
points out a strong similarity, then you can petition for that to be
enhanced in your HD's mind. Conversely, if you see a strong
difference in some areas, you can work both on the physical plane and
spiritual plane to change those differences, work around them, or
petition for that not to be a blockage to you being with your HD.

Okey dokey! I just wanted to mention those things because I have
discussed them with so many of you in consultation.

Misconceptions about Serving Your Met Tet

Hey everyone,
I did want to thank Sister Candelaria, Sister Bridget, and Berkeley for all of their information they put about knowing who you met tet is and even your HD's met tet.

I also want to let you know that there are often misconceptions about the responsibility of serving your met tet. YES, you must make a lifelong committment to serve your met tet. However, this is not meant to be a burden. Some folks (not the aforementioned) are making it sound like this is a burden!!! It is not and should not be. It should be joyful, fulfilling and something that you want to do.

Many times people think that serving their met tet means that they will have to have lots and lots of fancy rituals and leave offerings everyday, etc. Nothing could be further from the truth.

What is important is to daily acknowledge your met tet, but that could be as simple as saying, "Good morning, dear Papa Legba, let's have a great day together." You are not a slave to your met tet and that is what some folks (not just here, I mean all over the internet) make it sound like!

If you do not have money or time to do fancy rituals all the time, believe me, your met tet is not going to care about that. Something as simple as a candle and a glass a water once a week is sufficient.

My general recommendations for the minimum service to your met tet is as follows:
1. A daily greeting of some kind - this can be as simple as saying good morning.
2. Once a week, if you can, light a candle that you have dedicated to your met tet and leave a small offering if you can, or at least fresh water.
3. Three times a year try to have something special - such as a cocktail hour or larger ritual if you can.

Breaking the bank on serving your met tet never has and never will be necessary.

The TRUE RESPONSIBILITY of knowing who your met tet is, is to never forget them and always acknowledge them. This is your spiritual best friend; they are not going to abandon you because you can't do a big fancy ritual. If you think that, then you do not understand the concept of a met tet at all.

We stress the responsibility of knowing your met tet (or your HD's) because if five years from now you decide, "oh that voodoo stuff was fun, but I am on to something else now" and you decide to stop acknowledging your met tet, you could cause them to withdraw from you. This is just as anyone else in your life that you choose to ignore; they generally will withdraw.

The problem is, when your met tet withdraws, things can start to go poorly in your life; not because your met tet is punishing you, but simply because they start to ignore you, too. You have no idea how much your met tet does for you! But if you ignore them, you will have a tendency to see that things go wrong. This isn't going to happen because you forgot to leave a cookie a couple of times in a row! But if you choose at some point in your life to just not acknowledge them anymore, then you are losing a wonderful spiritual guardian and helper. And I don't want that to happen to any of you.

So if you cannot follow the simple guidelines above, then, no, getting a met tet reading is not for you.
