Training Style Application

Hi All
I'm reading BBP while creating my latest course for supervisors using this method. My entire presentation is mind mapped in advance and then I'm trying to put it into acts. I guess I'll use an Act for each major Branch. I've attached it as a pdf, if some one has any suggestions I'd appreciate it.

research report presentation

My students (grade 10) are currently researching and writing essays on the events of the Holocaust. I'd like them to be able to take their research information and transform it into an informative PowerPoint presentation using the BBP method. I'd like to present them with a basic approach that they could modify for their topics.
The setting: Events of the Holocaust
The protagonist: People persecuted during this time
The imbalance:Justice subverted
The balance:Justice restored
The solution: Learning from history's mistakes
or
The setting: Students learning about the Holocaust today
The protagonist:Students must become informed of these events
The imbalance:Students have limited time to research multiple events
The balance: By sharing stories, information becomes accessible
The solution: Telling stories of the Holocaust benefits us all

As you can see I'm not quite sure how to set this framework. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Goodbye old site!

This site has served me well. I feel I've shared information and links; had great discussions with a few, especially Norman; and hopefully others benefited too. We had fun helping people spark their first five slides.. and learned a great deal in the process...hopefully at the new site the audience will join in too!
2008 could be a BBP year... it is tough out there but then "when the going gets toough the tough get going! we will know in 12 months! Thanks to Cliff for catalysing the whole affair!

Office 2008 for Mac will ship in January 2008. Does the CD (for Windows Office 2007) that comes with the new BPP book work with a Mac? Can the CD only be used with Office 2008, or does it work with Office 2004 for Mac as well?

Scientific/New Drug presentation feedback

Hello,

This is my first crack at the storyboard.

Setting: HAART is the standard of care for HIV

Role: You are looking to decide how it compares to other antiretroviral drugs

Point A: The current clinical trial results are not clear

Call to Action: You will have to make a decision
based on the best information available and our agreed upon criteria.

Point B: Selzentry may offer a therapeutic benefit over current options for antiretroviral therapy.

The purpose of this PPT is to present clinical trial data for the new drugs that are being reviewed. In this case it is Selzentry. I need to come up with a template because we present multiple drugs in a meeting and need to vote on where to place the drug in relation to existing therapies.

Each presenter would use this same template to present the new drug.

How to convert template to Word 2003

I bought this book based on the language on the site, "Although the book updates BBP for PowerPoint 2007, even if you have PowerPoint 2003 you'll still find the book a signficant resource to guide you through the BBP process."
Unfortunately, I can't open the Story Template with Word 2003. How do I convert it, or, alternatively, is a .dot version available somewhere online?

Are bullet points always bad?

I really like the basic ideas behind beyond bullet points, but sometimes it seems that they would be appropriate for some reasons.
e.g. in one of my talks I would like to present some excuses we heard when asking people why they don't do something.
I have tried to present those with and without bullets and it feels that the bullets shows that they belong together.
Any thoughts about this?

Books on presentations

If you are held captive and your captor tells you that you are allowed to read only one book, which book would you pick?

For me, the choice is Moving Mountains by Henry Boettinger. It is by far the best book on communication. It was written back in 1969 by an AT&T executive in England. The language is a bit dated but the advice offered there is timeless. (Note: Cliff quoted fromthis book as well).

Peter Druckers review appears on the book cover as follows: A first-class and highly original, but also highly practical, treatise both on how one thinks and how one presents thinking.

On presentation, Boettinger states that each person listens for his own reason. So it is not what you say that matters; it is what people hear. Before you make a presentation, you need to really try to understand the various reasons people show up to hear you. Know your audience.

On elegance, Boettinger says that it exists when a great many aspects of a subject or person are expressed in the simplest possible way.

On passion, he writes that you can never affect others if you yourself are not affected by the idea. Thats why people who read from their speeches or presentations can never convince their audience because there is no passion there. The audience can sense it right away.

Boettinger also says that you should always treat the audience as equals during the presentation. If you talk down to the audience, they become resentful. If you try to kiss up to the audience, they despise you.

The best quote from the book is what Boettinger says about making presentations: Presentation of ideas is conversation carried on at high voltage at once more dangerous and more powerful.

The good news is that this book is 340 pages of great practical and timeless advice. The bad news is that it is out of print and it is a bit hard to find. Some libraries carry them. You may be able to find it at Amazon or EBay.
