I just saw a new book

While doing a search I found a book by a 463rd BG Pilot.
Someone asked me by email to find the exact location of the Celone Air Base on Google Earth.I still am not sure of its exact location but I know that the Celone Torrent (Stream?) is just a little North of the city of Foggia.Maybe someone could help me finding the exact spot.It would be nice to know

Look at this page (Page 81) and read about Leon G. Ballard who was in the 463rd BG
It mentions that he was a tail gunner on board B-17G 42-31831 named Banshee.
Do you have that name or AAF serial number in your lists Joel?

under this site.

I saw a AAF Ryan PT-22 Trainer for only $75,000

Wow I just saw a 1942 Ryan PT-22 Primary USAAF trainer being sold for only $75,000.
This is very inexpensive for an aircraft plus it's the first trainer that my father as a cadet was on.Dad had a picture of this on one of his walls.Perhaps this was the first aircraft Tom Stevenson might have trained on as well.I doubt any of us could afford a operational B-17 bomber but this trainer would be great to own (and fly).
It says that it has been restored and is in excellent condition.

10 May 1944 Wiener-Neustadt

For Memorial Day, I calculated the cost of the 10 May 1944 mission to Wiener-Neustadt in men rather than machines. 340 men took part (34 A/C) and seven aircraft were lost. On those aircraft 16 men were killed and 10 wounded bad enough to end up in a hospital. Another man was killed when his tail turret was blown off by flak (A/C 42-31770).

Among the 269 (27 A/C) men who returned there were 16 wounded at least one of whom died later in the hospital. For the 463rd as a whole 18 were killed, 25 wounded, 40 became PoW, and 14 evaded and returned.

These are as best I can determine. Corrections are more than welcome.

"Naughty Narda" crew members

I came across an affidavit of my father, Gael M. Beeler, which stated the crew of the B-17 ship, "Naughty Narda" was: pilot 1st Lt. William Yeager, Robert Martin, Charles kasik, Paul (Cley), Mr. Jacobi, Mr. Ledbetter, Mr. Beck and Mr. Wiscotchal under the command of Lt. Col. Robert H. Allyn.

7 April & 29 April 1944 A/C lost

Hi All,

The 463rd apparently lost one aircraft on the 7 April 1944 mission to Treviso, Italy and another on the 29 April 1944 mission to Toulon, France. I can't find an MACR for either one so they were presumable lost over territory under Allied control. The 775th Squadron history "Allyn's Irish Orphans" doesn't list any aircraft lost on either date. Does anyone have information about what happened?
