Zico:An Autobiography of A Non-League Footballer

Hi,
I have written a book about my experiences in Non-League football, the different clubs ive played for since I started playing football in my hometown of Guernsey. From Signing schoolboy forms at Southampton and Bournemouth then being unable to obtain a YTS after numerous trials. This lead me to Morecambe where i joined the acadamy and went onto the first team. The book includes the many clubs ive played for to the present 07/08 Season.
The book is called Zico: An Autobiography of a Non-League Footballer which is available at: www.authorhouse.co.uk/BookStore/ItemDetail~bookid~49598.aspx
As Non-League supporters I hope you will enjoy the many different stories and my journey in the Non-league. I feel that my Autobiography is unique as it is told from the not so glamorous side of the beautiful game.
Thanks Zico

Forum: Thurrock FC Message board

Directions from Chafford Hundred

Eastbourne fan here, coming to the game by train tomorrow, can anyone give me directions from Chafford Hundred station please. Is it possible to walk or do I need to get a bus? Also just found out it will be cheaper for me to get to Rainham station, is this an option? Thanks in advance.
Forum: Thurrock FC Message board

You don't get this in proper football
member Wed 26-Mar-2008 01:22:15
authenticated user: MEMBER (id=9888)

From local rag in Sussex

Player suspended after shovel attack
By Tom Gurney

Three Bridges have suspended midfielder Hassan Nyang after he allegedly hit another player with a shovel.

Nyang is accused of hitting Oakwood reserve goalkeeper Scott Kenward on the backside with the gardening tool following a dressing-room bust-up during half-time of a County League division one 1-1 draw at Jubilee Field on Bank Holiday Monday.

Bridges chairman Alan Bell said: "We were appalled at the incident and immediately suspended the player from playing for the club.

"We are having meetings this week to discuss the issue and we have sent our apologies to Oakwood. We as a club certainly do not want to be associated with such behaviour."

Nyang picked up the spade as the players returned to the pitch following the half-time interval.

He reportedly had to be restrained by Bridges manager Paul Faili and team-mates before being sent from the field by the referee.

Nyang was angry with Kenward after the two players had earlier clashed in the dressing room area as they left the field for half-time.

Oakwood manager Lee Butcher said: "I have never seen anything like it before, it was surreal. There was some trouble at half-time but it was a typical local derby, there was nothing really nasty in the game.

"He just lost it and I think the shovel must have been outside the clubhouse. It was shocking and I just tried to get my players away so the referee could deal with it.

"We have reported the incident to the FA and I don't want to say too much until the football authorities have dealt with it."

Nyang joined Three Bridges from Thurrock at the start of this season and earned his first call-up to the Sussex squad last month.

You don't get this in proper football
ILC Wed 26-Mar-2008 07:12:30
authenticated user: ILC (id=10117)

Strooth. He was, as stated, at Thurrock last year and is, without doubt, the thickest footballer I have ever come across. Seriously on this one. We picked it up as we watched him play, (and behave on a couple of occasions). Spoke once with the very pleasant and sensible goal keeper from last year who confirmed our observations, and actually said he was surprised Nyang could breathe and do anything else at the same time. He confirmed he could not put a sentence together.

He scored a couple of stunning goals, and could just run towards goal and shoot, but ask him to pass, be aware of anyone else or have a clue what was going on...no chance.

A little bit of ability but not able to cope in a team.
Big drop from Thurrock to Three Bridges though.

I have to doubt the accuracy of this!
hoagy Wed 26-Mar-2008 01:28:59
authenticated user: HOAGY (id=1)

The author dilly dallies around the issue of whether it's actually a shovel or a spade.

Three Bridges is, of course, part of Crawley.
So you think you can manage a football team?

Calling all footie fans, I would like to introduce you to a new type of fantasy football.

Xpert Eleven is a football manager game where you manage a fictitious football team. The thought behind the game is that you compete with your friends in a league that you create yourselves. You manage your team/teams in good times as well as bad. Your tasks consist of selecting your team and working out some cunning tactical moves.

We have created a league for all Conference fans called Blue Square Premier.

It is completely free to play Xpert Eleven.

So for the Love of the game give us a try.

Just log onto Expert Eleven , join and search for Our League ID which is 97586.

Forum: Thurrock FC Message board

Thurrock 1 Bath City 0

For any of you who didn't attend the match on Saturday I would point out that 7 of the starting 11 were under age 20 as were 4 of the 5 substitutes. According to the Bath City forum "Thurrock were a nasty spiteful side".
The truth however is that our kids refused to be bullied by an older aggressive and cynical side who also took every opportunity to intimidate the referee.
Unfortunately some of the youngsters are still naive. As an example while waiting for a freekick to be taken one of their players grabbed Swaine's balls and ran past him, Swaine instinctively swung a boot and was red-carded. The instigator was unseen and unpunished. "Thurrock nasty and spiteful"? I think not, but in my opinion Bath City are easily the most unpleasant and repulsive team to have visited Ship Lane for many a year.
Forum: Thurrock FC Message board

The last one

On the 21st of August 1993 I watched my third Purfleet game, this was to be the start of my unbroken run of game which culminated with St Albans away last Saturday 828 games with out missing any (Norman is bound to tell me that I have got that wrong).

There where some games that were touch and go, when sickness played a part or when I had to rush from Basildon Hospital to Hitchin after Matthew was born or during the fuel crisis in 2000 when I stopped my wife visiting her mum in Crawley so I would have enough Petrol in her car to see us play Uxbridge away in the Ryman League cup, but I did make them all.

Well I have now decided, through a combination of guilt, lack of enjoyment and having lost touch with my club to actually give something back to my kids and take them away for Christmas.

I will defiantly miss the next 3 games then I will see how I feel when I come back will I have missed going to Purfleet or will it be a liberating experience? I honestly dont know.

The love has died for my football club, it used to really hurt when we lost to the point of not talking to people and generally being really fcked off until the next game (Clarky, Chappo, Mick, Steve, Tit, Dennis you will all have experienced it as well as my family) now it is just a dull throb, nothing more.

A large part died when we changed our name Thurrock? No one lives in Thurrock we all live in Aveley or South Ockendon or Purfleet or Chadwell or Chafford no one lives in Thurrock.

Then the final nail in the coffin, sacking Colin McBride in such a piss awful way this man played 234 games for Purfleet and then managed us for over 500. He is a legend for Purfleet in everyway. Yes he wasnt everyones cup of tea but he was a clubman and we should have let him go with some dignity.

Then there is the way we play now loads of kids running around lacking any real spirit. Dont get me wrong we are now a much better side than last year and even the beginning of this season but we just dont seem to really have any bollocks about us. We do have some good players now, I like the two 2 centre halves and Lincoln has impressed much as Bryant has up front and Flynny and Groward for the old uns.

We had a 'fans forum' at the beginning of the season, which everyone found really good except the supporters! We agreed that day that we need to increase the fan base and, fair enough, we did a free game, has this been followed up? We also said that people want information regarding the club the new website in July had 15 news items, August 45, September 37, October 17, November 11, December 2, Prizes for anyone who can spot a trend.

Apparently we have been decimated but injuries over the past month or so and we have been told absolutely nothing and they wonder why we get fcked off!

Good luck to the team, and for once your wont have me moaning at you!
Forum: Thurrock FC Message board
