Erratic popup lag : blame it on the wireless?

Note : I have not yet been to the customer's location. I'm trying to have some ideas brewing before I get there.
Using PA5 with the SQL DB on a W2003 server. Customer called me up saying that erratically, the popup window will not show up for a few documents. After a while, the window will show up multiple times, all in a bunch, after the documents have been printed, at which point obviously, they don't remember in what order which documents were printed for which client (they are a legal firm).

I have talked to my contact there and it seems that all of the client stations that the problem has occured on are wireless. I'm hesitant to blame the wifi immediately but it does make sense.

Any other ideas?

Forum: Print Audit 5

Problem with the Job Merge Wizard

I'm trying to export the jobs from our PrintAudit db. Whenever I try and run the export job using the wizard I get the following error message;

"Export failed - please ensure your database configuration is correct, and that you have permissions to write to e:\export.jbs"

The location of the export file is local to my machine, and it does manage to create the file and export the users and printers - so it does have full access - there is plenty of disk space (168gb). I have tried increasing the connection and query timeouts, but it I still get the message everytime.

I'm doing it on my local PC - pointing at the PrintAudit database.

Can anybody suggest what the problem might be?

Forum: Print Audit 5

database on a server

We are currently setting up Print Audit 5 in our small office.
We ordered Recoverty Licenses, but installed the 15 days trial at the moment.
We installed the Administration, Job Manager and Client Communicator on one of our Desktops that is nearly always running and is thought to be used for main administration of Print Audit.
We now tried to move the database file(s) from the local path at the Desktop-computer to our Server (which isnt used as a print server, its just a data server (Windows Server 2003)). After moving the database the Administration and the Client Communicator ask for a new path. The Communicator does not accept the new path on the server. The Desktop has all administration rights. How can I solve this problem?

If I cant move the database, it would be no problem for me to use a new database (because we are still setting up everything). However it would be the best to install the Cliet Communicator on our Server (because it is always running) and install Administration and Job Manager at one of our Desktops. Is this possible? Do I have to expect similar problems with the database at the server even if the Client Communicator is also installed on the server?

Thanks in advance, Jrg

Forum: Print Audit 5

Print Audit 5 prevents VectorWorks from starting up

We are currently running the 15 days trial of Print Audit, but are waiting to receive our licenses.
We have 1 WinXP Pro SP2 station, which has problems with the Print Audit Client. The others run perfectly. After installation of the client on that station our CAD-software Vectorworks 2008 (newest version) does not start up any more. You can see the Vectorworks logo etc... then it is shutting down. After I de-installed die Print Audit Client this problem has gone.
I tried to reinstall Vectorworks which didn`t help.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance, Jrg

Forum: Print Audit 5

Client Status Deployment Tool export?

We're looking to deploy 4000 clients via SMS. We'd like to be able to use the Client Status / Deployment Tool to manage the clients (check client version and communicator setting). There appears to be an option for saving a report from this tool, but it's always grayed out. It is described in the Help file as exactly what we want. Is this a feature that was never implemented?

The tool is extremely limited (can't sort, don't get info from client unless user is logged on, no history), so it would be nice if we could at least get the data into Excel where we could sort it and keep a running log. Do I have to write my own scripts to manage the clients?

Forum: Print Audit 5

I have 2 RAK V2s and I use Windows Vista Business Edition on an HP Compaq nx7400 laptop.
When I generate a report, the program stops responding 50% of the time.
If I export a scan, with a comparison, it works fine, but if I attempt to run a report against the same comparison, the program hangs, and Microsoft then does it's Vista thing, and tries to resolve the fault, but fails, miserably.
Any ideas?

Forum: Print Audit Rapid Assessment Key v2

SQL Database/Reporting - Sizing Issue?

With PrintAudit 5, we have been unable to run composite reports, they keep timing out. The database quite large with around 3.5 million jobs + recorded. The SQL Database is sitting on a SQL Server 2000 box, and DB is currently 1.6 gb in size. The server is a Dual Processor with 2gb of RAM - and we feel this should be sufficient to run this database. The PrintAudit software is installed on the same server.
We do run another database on this server, but this is very small (less than 400mb) with around 10 concurrent users.

Has anybody else had difficulties with reporting from a large print audit database, or do you have any guidelines about how big the DB server should be.

Forum: Print Audit 5
