Bloodwork

I plan to do a FET with my January cycle. The only thing we have not done is have my husband's bloodwork done as your hours don't work well with his work schedule.

We were discussing it this weekend, and don't quite get the reason behind his bloodwork as he had it done prior to our 2 IVF cycles which resulted in our frozen embryos. I asked a few of my friends who have done FET's and their spouses aren't required to do anything for them. Does he have to have bloodwork done, as he won't be doing anything other than standing in the room with me?

If so, can he have it done elsewhere so he can perhaps go closer to work and have the results sent to you?

A Newbie with lots of questions

I am a 37 year-old woman that is gravida 3 para 1. My husband who is 35 does not have any children and I am wanting to know what the steps are needed to determine if I am the only hindrance in becoming pregnant or if he has issues as well.

We desperately want children together and I am wanting to carry and deliver our child(ren).

I feel that I am capable of carrying a child but because of the ectopic pregnancies I need assistance.

Does it cost to have a consultation and if so, what is the cost and since my insurance does not cover ivf we would need to discuss alternative payment methods.
What Now?

Dr Deaton,

I was a patient of yours this year I have my IVF in Jan-Feb. I only got one egg during my retrieval, and it was immature. I must say that I am still having some issues. I am wondering if there is anything else that we might consider due to cost of donor eggs? I am also wondering what happened because I had just been pregnant in Oct. of last year, even though it was an ectopic. What few eggs I have at least one of them made it to maturity. I am wondering if there is any other protocol that might help me.

I see and read alot about low dose protocols for women like me who have Low Ovarian Reserve. I also wonder about clinics being willing to deal with women like me because they don't want for their pregnancy stats to fall.

Thanks
Does your clinic have embryos that have been donated for other couples to use? I do know that many RE offices offer that now as opposed to using a donor.

Than you in advance
Miscarriage after Fertility Treatments

Dr. Deaton,

I have been ttc for 19 months now and on our first round of Femara, HCG shot and timed intercourse we got pregnant. However, my betas have been LOW (2953 at 26 dpo, and 3800 at 6w4d) An u/s at 6w4d confirmed the pregnancy was in my uterus, but the fetal heartbeat was so slow it was barely visable. My RE gave me a one in one million chance of carrying this baby to term. So now I am waiting to miscarry or will take the misopristol this weekend.

My question to you is - does this affect my chance of conceiving again soon? My RE seems to think this is a chomosomal issue or fertilization was not complete and that is why the baby stopped developing.

I guess I am just looking for a second opinion of sorts ... thank you so much for your time.

**update** An u/s on Friday determined that the babies heartbeat had stopped and I did take the misoprostol and miscarried over the weekend. How will this effect my chance of conceiving in the future?

Regd Treatment

Hello Doctor,

I has been diagonised with PCOS for the past 3 yrs. I am on treatment to get pregnant for the past 2 years.

I am on Metformin and Prenatal Vitamins.

I have tried with clomid 6 times but it didn't work out. Then doctor tried with
gonal-f and ovidrel along with IUI 3 times. But that too didn't work out for me.

I do not have any other problems other than PCOS.

If I start taking treatment with you how many cycles you might need to diagonise me before starting treatment for getting pregnant. My question will be how many cycles you will need to diagonise me even if I bring my previous reports from my doctor ( either 1 or 2 cycles).
What next?

I an 26 years old and I have been trying to conceive since Feb 2007. I have regular cycles, but have been having 3-5 days of spotting before my period.
I am otherwise very healthy, active (but not too active), I eat a good diet and don't drink or smoke and am at a normal wieght (5'9 127lbs).

Here are all the tests and procedure I have done so far, all of them were normal: HSG, Saline-infused sonogram, husband semen analysis, 21 day unmedicated prog. level indicated ovulation, day 3 bloodwork, countless ultrasounds.

Here are all the medications I have done: 2 rounds Prometrium after ovulation, 4 rounds clomid, 2 rounds Femara/IUI, 1 round Femara/Menopur/IUI/Prometrium.

I was wondering if there are there any more tests I can do. I am concerned about spending all this money on fertility treatments if there is something wrong. (We do not have great insurance, so we are paying largely out of pocket).

Urologist Or Fertility Specialist?

My husband is 32 and I am 26. We just found out that his semen analysis was abnormal (low motility, high number of abnormal forms and an overall low sperm count).
We also have concerns because I have ulcerative colitis and currently take Humira injections, and have had trouble in the past staying in remission on other medications.
What should our next step be? Should be consult with a urologist to try to treat my husband, or should we make an appointment with your office to find out our options?

  Thanks in advance!
timing our appointment with you

I had spoken to you a few months ago about possibly needing fertility meds again to have our 2nd baby. You had helped us in the past with our son. I had taken Clomid in the past and it worked, but I really didn't like the side effects. My OBGYN (High Point OB) said to try for about 2 months and if nothing happened to call you so we won't have to wait as long this time. Last time we tried for almost 2 years and figured out I had only ovulated 2 times in a year. We were interested in the injectables this time. You had mentioned for us to have a follow-up appt with you to get the "ball rolling." How far in advance should we make the appointment in relation to my cycle...while I'm on my period, wait until the end, etc. so that we would be able to start the meds at the right time? Ideally (so cliche) we would like to conceive near or around Dec/Jan due to our schedules. Thanks for your help! Hope to see you soon!

endometrin

I am on the FET protocol and have tried IVF but it failed. I am wondering about the endometrin medicine. I currently use it vaginally twice a day but I notice a considerable amount "leak" out. Is this normal or should I worry about whether my body has absorbed enough medicine?

FET Protocol

Dr. Deaton,

I've had all my testing done for a FET.. my husband just needs to do his bloodwork. I have a few questions about the protocol however.

-I'm nervous about not using PIO and only using suppositories. It wasn't until I saw the prescription sheet and saw PIO on there that I got nervous. I assumed Premier didn't use it at all and was successful. Is it only used for fresh IVF cycles? Why not for frozen? Just wanted some clarification on that.

-I noticed the beta is done after 8-10 days.. assuming it can be done earlier than a fresh as there's no trigger shot? I had to wait 14 days with my fresh cycles.

-The second beta is done a week later. This concerns me as my first cycle, I had a strong initial beta that failed to double resulting in a miscarriage. I only had 2 days of being "pregnant" before mourning the loss... I can't fathom if it had been a whole week.. is there a reason behind waiting a week between betas?

Thank you!

Beth

My husband is 52 and I am 39. He had a vasectomy at age 44 and then diagnosed with prostate cancer at 50, treatment was prostatectomy. I checked with our insurance co. and medications would be covered. As far as I know, I have no fertility problems. I know IVF is preferred but is IUI a reasonable option?

Clomid or Femara

Good morning!

I started my very first cycle of Clomid last night and, while doing a little reading online (I know, I know...lol), I ran across some ladies using Femara.

I will be having an "unmonitored" Clomid cycle so I'm a bit scared of forming cysts and not knowing it. Does Femara have the same likelihood of cysts as Clomid does?

Miscarriages after Tubal Reversal

Dr. Deaton,
I am considering ivf. I have had a tubal reversal which shows my tubes open. I have had 9 miscarriages in the last 3 years. My hcg levels never reach over 124. I was told that maybe I have scarring in my uterus or inflammation. All other tests for miscarriages have been done and are all negative. Just don't know if ivf would benefit me being i can get pregnant? Could it be my tubes even though i'm getting pregnant? Thank you! Paula
