Getting skewed by Sony

I cant believe Sony is releasing yet another version of the PS3. It makes me laugh how much Sony as screwed up the PlayStation this generation. It's like one huge mistake after another.

It's ludicrous that you have to rush out and get a PS3 that's backward compatible before it gets discontinued.

I know Microsoft has a number of 360 skews but at least their all backward compatible and it's made even easier because of the 360 Elite, which is best version to have due to the 120 GB Hard Drive and HDMI (and Black)

Hey Jamie, Just get a Xbox360 Elite instead of a PS3. Come on, you know it makes sense!

Leave the PS3 to the lonely fanboys!

Forum: Gaming Uncensored

Spore

Well hopefully this will help for some good non-"militant athiest" discussion.

So here's the deal with spore. I've been awaiting spore like a giddy schoolboy ever since i first heard about the concept, and ofcorse Will Wright's name attached to it. Then i saw the first gameplay demo at GDC(or maybe E3) in 2005. And that 35 Minute demo, and the subsequent ones that followed, captivated me unlike any game or any other piece of entertainment has....ever.

So since we're only two weeks out from it finally being released, From what you've seen so far, what's you're overall impression of what Spore will be like for you? Because realistically Spore will have such a vastly different appeal to each person in how they play the game....if they even do.

For me, I've actually been surprised by how closely maxis has come to fulfilling the hyped finished product we've been waiting for. I always knew the game could be described as having clear limits, but within those limits are seemingly endless potential and variety. In fact some somewhat minor things like the ability to create flying/gliding creatures was something i had thought would be left out. But actually that very thing was demonstrated at E3 this year.

Now i could write a 200 page Book about all the great things that WILL be in the game. But lets talk about what will be left out, at least in this first iteration of Spore. The stage that was in between the Cell phase and the land creature phase was a 3D Sea-Creature phase that was in the 2005 Demo. from what i've seen and heard, this has been removed from spore. Now if I'm wrong on this, please inform me. But i feel like that was an important phase in between the cell and land creature phase. I feel like the game won't transition very well from a micro organism in a drop of water to a creature crawling out of the sea.

Most importantly while I'll say again that spore will be so relative for each person and there's no knowing how the game will sit with one person to the next, I am worried about how the space stage with it's "missions" that lead to the center of the galaxy will mix with wanting to play an open ended type game. What i mean is, will the missions be something that are always a nagging message popping up when you're just flying around Tera-forming planets. From all the hands-on articles I've read, i still haven't seen a definitive answer to that question.

But my biggest concern is the user created content system. While i've seen some great looking and moving creatures so far, Most of the probably 8 billion creatures on the Sporepedia not only look very generic but usually don't move around too well. But that's kind of a given when you hand the average Joe the ability to take over a content system. I mean look at Youtube! So again, my biggest issue is how Maxis will manage the Content system so that it works seemlessly for everybody. I heard that during a 20 minute hands-on for joystiq during E3, While Will Wright was watching them play, he noticed how the content system wasn't creating a ecosystem that the player could manage with his creature early on, And said that needed to be worked on. And this was with Maxis created creatures.

So all in all, I'm sure Spore, despite it's probable early issues that will need to be patched, will still be an amazing experience that ultimately will live up to the hype.
Forum: Gaming Uncensored

Well I made it back. It seamed like I was doing a great deal more then in previous years. I ran two games, and while I did not get the full number of players in each, those that did play had fun, so I guess that is all that counts.

Unlike previous years, I did not do any of the podcast pannel and I did not get any interviews. Mostly I played in a number of games all of which I will be reviewing over the next few months. As well as some expaned reviews of some games I recently reviewed.

I did not see much of the other podcasters, we move in different circles at the con, but I did see a number of my old friends and the people I see only at Gencon every year (such as the M-Collective). I did met a few fans, in fact both of my games had listeners in them, one had signed up for the game, and the other joined in with a generic ticket, when he discovered he listened to AGC.

Ben

Forum: All Games Considered

MGS4 solidifies Konami Q2 earnings

MGS4 solidifies Konami Q2 earnings

Kojima blockbuster's 3 million units pushes publisher's quarterly earnings to $654 million; over 57 percent of income now PS3-based.

Ever since Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots went on sale to rapt reviews, it was clear that the game would be a hit. Just how big a hit became clear a fortnight after the game went on sale, when Konami announced that the stealth actioner sold over 3 million units worldwide in just 14 days.

Today, Konami reported its earnings for the April-June quarter, which contained MGS4's June 12 release. For the three-month period, the Tokyo-based publisher took in revenues of 70.8 billion ($654 million), up just 17 percent from the year prior. Consolidated operating income rose a solid 65 percent to 11.6 billion ($107.2 million), with post-tax net income ringing in at 5.7 billion ($52.1 million).

Unsurprisingly, MGS4 has drastically altered the ratio of platforms on which Konami earns its money. For the current quarter, 57.3 percent of the company's income came from the PlayStation 3, up 56 percent from the same period a year prior. Wii income roughly doubled from 5 percent to 9.9 percent, whereas Xbox 360 income increased from 1.6 percent to 2.6 percent. PlayStation 2 income fell dramatically from 35.7 percent to 11.5 percent, Nintendo DS revenue went from 32.8 percent to just 7.6 percent, and PSP revenue went from 20.5 percent to 9.5 percent.

For its 2009 financial year, which ends on March 31, 2009, Konami expects net income of 26 billion ($240 million) on revenues of 330 billion ($3.1 billion), respective increases of 11 and 41.7 percent.

Source: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6195475.html?part=rss&tag=gs_news&subj=6195475

Forum: Gaming Uncensored
