I just wanted to talk about this new site called http://www.MyMusicSite.com. Its great for independent artists trying to get thier music heard by a lot of people. The site provides promotional services for the artist and allows them to make ringtones using their original songs... you know I had to get couple of these artist's ringtones (i'm kinda a ringtone junkie.lol.) The point of the evening was not just to select a winner, but to give developing artists constructive feedback to advance their careers and improve their craft, especially commercially. Talent judges included Ashba, MySpace Records General Manager J Scavo, Red Queen Musics Robert Walls and Angel Diva Musics Jan Linder-Koda. Some of their comments:

About Audra Hardt:

Scavo: are sort of low-hanging fruit, written about by many artists. In order to stand out, you need to stretch out into more personal, even uncomfortable subjects.

About Starving For Gravity:

Ashba: You can shred all day long and no one will notice, but you can hit one (sweet) note and the room will turn. You did.

Walls: I want your first song to license immediately (Omaha).

Scavo: Great voice, get in great shape, you need a look.

About Shea Stratton:

Walls: I want your first song (The Wreck). I like vague songs because theyre easy to place.

About Seriously:

Linder-Koda: You need to decide as a band if youre going to go in a pop or rock direction. Enthusiastic playing, but you need more time together to mesh as a band.

About Clare Diane:

Ashba: Guitar player held back, he has a good ego. Also, I love a great pair of hip bones .

Scavo: Reach down for more powerful lyrics.

About Impel:

Scavo: best of the night, great energy, not overpowering, but work on your choruses and simplify.

Linder-Koda: Amazing performance, but why are your choruses so esoteric, what are you saying? I want to know. Make every single line NOT depend on the next line. I want your CD!

Walls: Best wall of sound, its tight. I want your CD!

Success

Best comments of the evening came from Ashba, who reminded artists that Success isnt about money. If youre sitting in a room playing and getting goose bumps, and someone else is getting goose bumps too thats success. If youre doing music you love, when the money comes, it doesnt really matter.

But it sure is nice!

Runners-Up Advance to Finale

North Dakota band Starving For Gravity were runners-up in the competition. They advance to the finale on August 11 together with Impel to compete for the grand prize, a career launch package that includes radio airplay on top L.A. rock station 98.7-FM (for rock winner), option to sign winning songs to Red Queen Music for commercial exploitation in film and TV; personal consultation in performance, songwriting, marketing and business plan development; a professional photo session, resources and gear.

My name is susie and i am presently working for Ditto Music, an online distributor of music working with independant artists. They are currently running a music show, "Ditto Music Live" on Sky channel 186. Its a totally live show going out 8-9pm thursday nights. ?Recent guests have included Steve Purdham from we7, Bens Brother, Kevin Dacosta form the Arts Council etc.
As well as featuring up and coming bands we want to give unsigned artists advice and contacts from various industry experts accross the board.
So if you are a promoter, label, magazine, anything an unsigned artist might find of interest, we would be happy to have you come down and give yourself a plug, take some questions etc. ?We also feature live artists on the show and if you are looking after an artist we may be able to feature them as well.
