In November, the MRCC Public Policy Committee heard a presentation by the Minnesota Vikings on their stadium development proposal. A question rose from one of the committee members as to the benefits of professional sports facilities in Minnesota. Interestingly, the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission recently report answering this very question. Conducted by RSM McGladrey, the report provides "an analysis of the estimated historical tax revenue benefit to the state, county and local government agencies from activities associated with major professional sports facilities in Minnesota." Attached to this post is that report. In addition, the MSFC engaged in a statewide speaking tour to discuss the next steps for the metrodome. The tour will be in Minneapolis on January 16th.

The Chamber would like to hear from you! Do you think professional sports are a benefit to our community? Do you think the costs of maintaining professional sports teams out weight the benefits? Please use this forum to provide your comments and feedback.

For questions, please contact Travis Bunch, Director of Public Policy at tbunch@minneapolischamber.org or 612.370.9170

Forum: Sports Facilities - Benefit?
