A Cancelled Vacation

A friend of mine (a fellow biker), recently had a vacation planned to go to the "UP" by way of the ferry over to Wisconsin, see Wisconsin Dells and on up into the UP via her bike with her newly wed (one year) husband, Kent. Karen was so looking forward to this trip being that it was sort of their honeymoon. She has suffered from Leukemia for the past 10-11 years and just before they were to go on vacation her disease returned and she is now starting Chemo. Needless to say, with having to have chemo, continuous blood tests and occassional blood tranfusions there was no way they could leave the area. I thot if, by chance, someone might be making a similar trip and had planned on taking pictures and/or video'ing their trip, that maybe I could get a copy and present it to them as sort of an anniversary gift. I would gladly pay for the video and shipping. OR, perhaps you might know where I can get a video already produced of a bike going thru the Wisconsin/Upper Michigan area. If any other biker out there can help me I sure would appreciate it and I know Karen would too. Please send me an email at sbutcher@barryco.org Thank you and safe riding to you all. Sue

Forum: Sister Biker

Hello

I am planning a ride to the U.P. with a couple buddies and our spouses from Omaha, Ne in late July or early August. I will have about 5 days to spend in the area. Is it worth trying the Cannonball, or would you suggest spending more quality time in a particular area? We enjoy good scenery & hiking, with a possiblity with kayaking (depending upon wives). Good local food & beer are a given. Also any ideas for B&B's.
Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Forum: Introductions

This photo is of my wife and our bike. I'm a very lucky guy. I've married a woman that loves football, bikes, boats and fun, and HATES shopping! How cool is that. In fact, for my 60th birthday, she bought me this new Suzukis Boulevard M109R. We've been married for 20 years and together for 23. We're looking forward to vacationing in the U.P. on our bike for about 10 days the first week in August of this year. Should be fun. We're going to stay mainly in the East & Central areas of UP.

Thanks
Bruce

Forum: Pictures

Hi everyone!

Cool, a board for one of my favorite spots in the midwest.

My name is Neil Zimmerman and I, along with my brothers Steve, Merlin, and David, own My Brothers Cabin at Lake Gogebic. Check us out on the web at <mybrotherscabin.com>

My wife Karen and I have made many trips to the UP. Starting in 1997 when we made our first snowmobile trip to Calumet and Watersmeet. Shortly after, we started looking for a house that would accomodate our large extended family in the Gogebic area. I realized that it is no fun to split up a group so it had to be BIG.

My brothers and I have dabbled in ride organization in the past, I was a Ride coordinator for Victory Motorcycles in the Minneapolis area, and my brother Merlin, is a school teacher and has the Summers off so he can lead as well.

We make a trip up about once a month or so on the bikes and I have always felt that people who only go to the UP in the Winter are missing out on a great opportunity to ride in great scenery. Last year, my wife and I left from our house at Gogebic and rode to Munising to take the Pictured Rocks Sunset Cruise. We stayed at the small motor hotel on the east side of the bay, and rode back the next day. We had to stop at Iron River and have a beer while waiting for a storm to pass, but all in all... a great trip.

We will be back up a lot this Summer and hope to meet up with some of you when we do.

Thanks to Dave for starting this board and website.

Forum: Introductions

When you find yourself on US 2 just west of Bewabic State Park, turn south onto the Pentoga Trail. It isn't a long road, but it does get you off US 2 and into some very scenic riding. If it had been for being early on a Sunday, with most in church, I would have stopped in Alpha. I gotta go back and check out the town center.

Forum: Favorite U.P.
