Deep drilling Alumimum 6061-T6511 Extruded

I need advice on deep drilling (8" deep) this extruded aluminum. We tried carbide (expensive drill) but did not work. Coolant pressure is 650 psi. Drill dia 7/16". Drill keeps breaking. We used manufacturer's recommended speed and feed.
After we tried Botek gundrill which worked but quite slow but cheaper compared to drill. Some people says normal drill shape won't work for extruded aluminum. is it right? Thanks for help.
System Variable for pallet in the machine

I have a Doosan HP6300 Horizontal Machining Center with a fanuc 18iM control, and I was wondering if there is a system variable that I can read and/or write to a common variable to tell my main program what pallet is in the machine, so I can have it call up the right subprogram, workoffsets and etc.

Flash Cards ( Fanuc )

I 've been using a flash card, that isn't fanuc, but has worked fine. I have recently received error code 1010, and 135 when punching and reading. Error 135 is: device is not formatted. I've tried to use the control to format the card but I haven't been able to get the control to display the format button to press. This procedure may help or may not, I don't know for sure. I have tried to format the card using my PC but that didn't help either.

Is there a card designed for fanuc or are they all about the same?

I've read about some cards that are rechargeble or use batteries, what is this?

Do the cards just wear out? Do some cards come with a flash code that is more compatible with fanuc controls? This card still works fine with the reader on my desk but fails on the machine.

Which cards seem to have less trouble?

Any help appreciated...

cb
Learning CNC

Ok, my story... I live and work in Scotland. Currently operating working in an engineering company who manufacture comonents (PVC) using CNC machines. I am 44 years old, my previous career includes time served welder, then admin in IBM, redundant to took the offer of this job. The training leaves a lot to be desired, I have worked there for over a year, but with production requirements restricting, I am basically just operating the machine. I feel I have wasted the last year and am now looking to make up for lost time! The company is possibly a bit unstable, so would like to arm myself with a better knowledge in case I need to find another job. I have seen there are many online courses, but to be honest at ths moment in time I just do not have the resources to fund any of these. So... looking for advice on a book, or course of books I can use to set me on my way.

macro for running parts in a sheet

Here is an issue that I can't seem to find a satisfactory answer for. I've developed a vacuum workholding system that can machine numerous components in a sheet of composite material. We also regularly machine features on both sides of the sheet necessitating the need to flip the sheets. Our programmer will layout the spacing manually in Gibbscam and then program each identical part. You can see the issues here - massive programs, potential for mistakes, difficult and time consuming changes to programs, etc.

We have a macro program on our lasers that will take the max x and y dimensions and the stock size and then just move through the sheet and cut out the parts. This would work for the mill too if we could figure out how to handle all the tool changes (all parts, one tool) and the part flipping.

I can't find nesting software that will do anything this complicated either.

The goal here is to just program and optimise single parts and then find a separate program/process/macro to layout the sheets and optimise the machining process.

Engraving PH Stainless

Hi guy's,

I am currently engraving some PH-stainless plates with a 1/32" 4 flute carbide ALTIN coated endmill. The engraving is .012" deep at full dia. of the endmill. My situation is tool breakage, we are cutting the circles and numbers at full depth at a speed of 12,000RPM and a feed of 1.5IPM. There is quite a bit of engraving per part but, we can not get through one part without toasting a end mill. There are 5 circles at 2.64" dia. and 5 numbers at 5/8"x.500" wide. We are using Swiss Lubes Blaser cut coolant running at a 10 on the refract. and the tool is in a solid holder. Our Mori tops out at 15,000Rpm. Any suggestions that would lead too longer tool life would be much appreciated.
Block Delete

Does anyone know how to create multiple block deletes in a Fanuc 16M control? I have written a thread mill subroutine and would like the operator to be able to control several functions such as thread checking, skipping a hole or re-cutting a hole. On the Acramatic 950 controls, there were 10 different block deletes that I could do this with but with the Fanuc, I am limited to one.

helical interpolation on a lathe

I'm looking for a quick primer on doing helical interpolation on a lathe with live tooling. Does anyone have a method to mill a tapered offset hole on a lathe that they don't mind sharing if it can be done? I remember seeing something like this being done on a lathe with live tooling a long time ago, but don't remember the particulars of how it was accomplished. I need help if it's available from someone with expertise in this area.

im having trouble figuring out how to set my coordinates in order to program in inch and positive values. i try to use g54 but keep getting different values in my geometry page. i could really use a step by step here.im familiar with work coordinates on a haas lathe and know how to set my tools, but this is a different control for me. also how is g50 used in the program?ie values
