John Peel, way back when, introduced me to the guys, ever since then Joy Division have influenced the music which, I now enjoy, Tool, Type o Negative, Nick Cave, The Ministry, Disturbed, etc.

I never hang in the past, always attempting to keep up but, one fact remains, within the inner music circles, Joy Division stamp their influence in a mega way.

In the beginning it was always Velvet Underground and beyond but, Joy Division reached in their short career, the same ultimate peaks as the Underground, maybe in some areas, even surpassing the great Velvets.

Creation of timeless music, adaptable to all genders, bridging time zones and eras, influencing today's musicians searching for the magic formulas that could elevate themselves into the priceless, timeless zone.

This zone is only reserved for the few and Joy Division certainly have achieved "Godly" status over the years between their tragic, brutal finale and today.

There is no doubt that, for anybody who appreciates modern, alternative music, Joy Division is a must, an education, a life long experience. Just as important as the daily treadmill, the pain of life, the ecstasies of life, and the gift to escape for minutes in the presence of great art!

Hello there. I can't say that I'm a Joy Division fan, considering I've only heard one of the bands songs. Basically, I have a friend who is a huge Joy Division fan, and most of what I know about Ian Curtis or the band is information I recieved from her, or from online. My expertise is in collecting vinyl, and I love collecting Joy Division bootlegs especially, seeing as how they are a legendary band. Most of the vinyl, shirts, whatever I come across goes to her. Having to have gone through vast amounts of information, I gained much respect for the band, not for their music, for previously mentioned reasons, but for how they came up with their band name, and the song lyrics to No Love Lost that I can somewhat relate to. I had to escape a concentration camp with my family from Bosnia and come to the USA, and there were "Joy Divisions" around there too. So basically, I'm here because I'm intrigued. :)

Hello, it's really amazing to find out here.
I knew JD from New Order, and lately in Moscow hled an exhibition about Anton Corbijn. The pic of JD is really amazingly beautiful!!!
Anyway, I'd like to ask about the events of JD, why is there still a concert about them? Who will show up on the stage?

hay i am new hear just got approved today. (thank you) I'm from new york city lol whatever relevance that may have.
i just recently discovered joy division as of say the past 4 or so months, and i am so glad i did , they have been opening up new worlds for me.
to be honest (and i expect much laughs at my expense) i was caught for so long in the "flavor of the week" bands hear in the states, for me it was getting old . i got into bands such as "my chemical romance" and it was so empty , the sound ..the lyrics . everything.
it was a waste of my money , my time ..and my eardrums.
i seen a girl in a joy division t-shirt one day about three years ago and the image on the shirt just got me interested.i went home looked them up and had not thought about it (nor oddly enough did i bother to hear what they sounded like) i had forgotten about them.
one day on my way to classes in Manhattan i seen a billboard for the film control,
and i was like oh there goes that band again, i should really check them out.
i went to best buy bought "substance" (the only thing they had in stock)
and when i got home poped it in the cd player and i was struck dead in my tracks.
it was what i was longing for, something that was not pompous and full of shit .
something that you knew the guy singing felt and meant every word coming out of his mouth. and you felt it. and the instrumentation was like ...its so simple but it gets the mood and point across with out having to be over done.
just ...i thank them for saving my bleeding eardrums lol

Psyche goes Joy Division - "Disorder"

I hope it's ok to post this here. Even though my band Psyche is more known for electronic indie Pop than the cold wave, post punk sound of Joy Division, we have chosen to record a new interpretation of "Disorder" as I feel the sentiments are timeless, and in fact may truly represent the state of the world today as ever before.

I have to admit , other than the millions of "Love Will Tear Us Apart" cover versions, I hadn't realized that this song has also been done quite often, but I am happy to sit along so many great artists in my love for Joy Division. I'm sure as all of you I have spent hours, and sometimes days listening to "Unknown Pleasures", and "Closer" over and over again. I hope Psyche's interpretation will please new fans, it is not a replica, but my own personal take.

Songs recorded for Control?

First time poster.

I was wondering what songs did Sam Riley record for the film control. I know his version of transmission is on the soundtrack but i was wondering if any other songs that he re-recorded are available anywhere?

Also i am still kinda new to Joy Division.

Does anyone know if all the original releases of Unknown Pleasures and Closer on CD came with an embossed cardboard CD carry sleeve? They came,cellophane wrapped, to the back of the plastic CD case.
