Jumpback Blues sheet

So, in addition to the Approach Chord Blues sheets, Ted also gave me this very cool sheet called Jumpback Blues. A.K.A. Sandwich V Blues. I.e. the V of the chord you are on is sandwiched in between two different versions of the chord you're on. Ted's instructions were to slide into the "V of" chord (the meat in the sandwich) from a 1/2 step below. This sheet is definitely worth the effort. Oh, and as w/ the others, if you want a pdf of this, just e-mail me at rogertaylor6@gmail.com.

Cheers,

Roger

Forum: General Topics

All the things you are

Ok, first of, this is my first post on the forums, so greetings from South Florida. I got to know Ted through his videos on youtube and his album, and he's quickly become my favorite jazz guitarist. Being a classically trained guitarist, I can adapt pretty well to his finger style playing, and decided I would try to learn some of his music. Easier said than done! I downloaded the sheet for all the things you are, but found that the formatting was so unfamiliar that I couldn't read through it fluidly. Using powertab, I've tried to transcribe it, and was fairly successful up until the 15th to last diagram, from which point I just can't manage to decode the intended rhythm. I can't attach a .ptb file to this, so instead I just took two screen shots showing what I did up to this point. Anyone have any insight, or perhaps a video of Ted performing this?
Forum: General Topics

Ted's Diminished Chord Harmony Lesson Sheet

In one of Mark Levy's lessons, Ted mentions a lesson sheet specific to diminished chord harmony that begins w/ Beethoven-type sounds and ends w/ Bill Evans. Anyone have a scan of that sheet? This is a real area of weakness for me...among so many others....

Peace. jeff

Forum: Harmony & Theory

Baroque music and modern electric guitar.. Please help!

Good morning to all! I study music in Norway and have chosen to deliver a paper on parallels between baroque music and modern electric guitar music. The reason I chose to write this paper is that all my "guitar heroes" (Satriani, Vai, Malmsteen etc..) have at some point in their career either recorded or played live some sort of music from the baroque era. Why is this such an attractive era for guitarists? Upon Googling the subject into oblivia I came over this tribute site for Ted Greene and began checking his name on channels like youtube and reading the posts in this forum.. Everyone here seems to be quite solid when it comes to music theory, and Mr. Greene was obviously steady on baroque music, so I decided to try and open the subject for discussion.
How would you compare the use of scales in today's electric guitar music with the use of scales back then?
Which scales (and/or modes...) are most commonly used?
Another important question which needs answering is: what kind of techniques and theory do YOU apply when playing baroque music?
This may come off as a lazy man's job, just posting a topic and waiting for responses but the truth is I'm hoping to use replies as examples from practicing guitarists in the paper... I haven't reached the level of technical proficiency where i can comment these things myself and therefore deeply appreciate any input on the subject!
Anything and everything can be of help!

*Yank

Forum: General Topics

I was wondering how often Ted used flat wound strings on his archtops? When I met him he had flatwounds on a Guild with three pickups.
Ted Greene Students on Facebook?

Hello Everyone -

I've been having a great time collaborating with musicians I meet on Facebook. I'd be happy to hear from any of you Ted Greene students and fans out there who also have an account and would like to connect.
am hoping that this Ted Greene website will become better known as the incredible resource that it is. Having a bunch of us together on Facebook might help make that happen a bit easier! We could have a Ted Greene Students group even if folks like that idea.

Thanks from John C.
need tech help for converting pdfs to jpeg

Hi everyone,

Are you computer savvy? If there is anyone who can help me convert my pdfs of Ted's material into a more readable graphics format (that the website supports, like jpeg) than the files I had posted yesterday (approach chord blues) in .png, it would be greatly appreciated. Seems the resolution is low and opening the thumbnail and printing does not work properly (sized wrong). I have some other files besides the approach chord sheets that I'd like to share.

Thanks for any assistance! You can e-mail me (rogertaylor6@gmail.com) or call me at (571) 232-7000.

Roger

Forum: General Topics

Approach Chord Blues sheets

Hi all,

Been meaning to post a few things for everyone. Here are four sheets of approach chord blues arrangements by Ted. I took lessons back in '90 - '91. He was the man! I hope you enjoy. You can send me an e-mail with any questions, comments, etc., at rogertaylor6@gmail.com.
(Later edit) For anyone having trouble downloading the files, e-mail me and I will send the original pdfs to you (the site doesn't allow pdfs to be uploaded). However, if you right-click on the thumbnails and select "save as," then save it to your computer, you'll have a permanent electronic file and you can then print out a very clear copy. You'll need an appropriate program to open the file in. I tried it using Windows Picture and Fax Viewer and it came out fine.

Roger

Forum: General Topics

chromatic harmony

chromatic harmony as Ted explained it,is a great
way to organize alot of harmonic vocabulary in
three categories; major,minor and dominant.
you can begin by playing a chromatic line on any
string, the bass is good to start with. than we
name each of the 12 notes as chords which are related
to the key we are in.start with the more obvious
choice, than give the some note at least 2more names.
so if we are in a minor tonality, the root can function as
1 of onemin. 5th. of four min.,maj.or dom.
3rd. of flat six maj7 or dominant, etc.you will find this study unveils
much of the magic of music.i imagine one could come up with a
small infinity of progressions. love to see Ted's papers..enjoy,Rafi.

Forum: Harmony & Theory

Book Idea

I guess this is directed mostly at Barbara, but has there been any thought towards maybe compiling, organising and editing a selection of Ted's lesson pages and arrangements into a book or folio of sorts? You could offer it online through something like lulu.com, who handle all the printing and shipping on a order-by-order basis.

This would give the freedom to offer it for free online as a PDF, but give people the opportunity to pay for stuff printed and bound nicely. The proceeds could go towards the up-keep of this site, or perhaps a plaque or something in Ted's memory.
Forum: General Topics
