indoor sticks versus outdoor sticks

during the summer my high school coach gave out suggestions for each player to get a new stick, and for me she chose the dita giga 14, which is an indoor stick.
i used it throughout the high school season with no problem and played well.
i tried out for an elite team for my area and i made it, and this coach is telling me that i shouldn't be using an indoor stick and that i need to buy a new one to improve my game by 100 times
is this true? why is having an indoor stick bad if i play perfectly fine with it?
Forum: Field Hockey

Footwork Drills

I am a goalie and know with the extra demands of coming out in the circle are really being an 11th player, that footwork and being as quick as a field player are important. I want to be able to stay with somebody, but also be in control enough where I can push off and attack at any moment. Are there any specific drills you always turn to that focus on footwork, balance, explosiveness, and/or quickness? I've done things out of pads with jump ropes and ladders but sometimes it doesn't feel like it's the same as when I'm in pads. Thanks!

Forum: Ask the Goalie

Modified Player Stick Recommendation and Grip Info

I am a modified player and I am thinking of buying the TK 4 GT Field Hockey Stick. Is this a good choice? I have used a borrowed wood stick up until now...do you think I will be able to make the adjustment? Also, I am tall (5'6") and still will grow an inch or two, so will 38" be okay? One last question: What exactly is the Shaft Guard Protection Tape, how is it used, and is it recommended?

Thanks so much in advance!

Forum: Ask the Goalie

Stick recommendation needed

Hi. I would like to buy a new composite stick, and need a recommendation, since it's been almost 15 years since I've purchased a stick. I played in college (a long time ago, at a Div. I school), and I just want to get a stick for use during reunion/alumnae games (high school and college) and for practicing on my own (maybe I'll join a club league again). That being said, I'm not interested in getting a cheap stick that won't give me the power I'd like (I hit hard--I'm almost 40, but I am stronger now than I was in college)--in other words, the cost is not a factor. I'll be playing forward, and my stick work is very rusty. I'd like a stick that I can use on turf and on grass. Also, I am about 5'3"--I usually use a 36" stick (I used a Grays composite stick back in the day). Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
-K

Forum: Ask the Goalie

How Do I Know if my Stick is Broken??

I just purchased a dita full composite stick from longstreth and i have noticed that it vibrates alot, rattles, makes a funny noice if I hit it, and sometimes hurts when I drive. I asked my coach if she thought it was broken, and she thought it was. She told me to send it back to dita and get a new stick. Is my stick really broken and are they going to refund my stick or is it just like all other sticks?

Forum: Field Hockey

my school has a new turf field as of last fall. we have an older turf field too. in middle school i wore cleats most of the time but the old turf was really worn down in comparison to the new one. i was wondering if i should get turf shoes or whether i should just wear sneakers or cleats. any opinions?

Forum: Field Hockey

defensive stick

I was wondering what type of stick you would recommend for a 9th grade defender on a JV team. In 7th & 8th grade I used a wooden, maxi-head deBeer stick, and a wooden, maxi-head TK stick. But for high school level play, would you suggest a composite or wooden stick?

Forum: Field Hockey

sizing goalie equipment

Hi.
I play high school varsity field hockey in st. louis, missouri and i have a friend who is a first time goalie playing high school JV/varsity swing. Right now she is using goalie equipment that belongs to the school and she was looking to buy her own, but there aren't really any stores that carry goalie equipment. She was looking to find a store that would have it just so she could try it on and then buy it online but didn't have that much luck with that. She is about 5'2" and is going to be a sophomore, she wasn't sure if she should be a small or a medium. She was looking at the Slazenger Club Goalkeeping Package as she already has a helmet. Would a medium be right just so she has some room to grow into them?
Thanks,
Claire.
-- anyone can respond because we are really clueless...
Forum: Ask the Goalie

turf shoes or sneakers?

Hi I am a junior and have been a goalie since 7th grade. I have always worn sneakers or indoor soccer shoes when in goal. A couple of my coaches are recommending that I wear cleats but I think then my feet would get stuck when sliding and moving around in the circle. We play on grass and I was thinking of getting turf shoes but what should I do? And I've noticed that when the shoe has a flat bottom that it can be more helpful with moving around, is that true? Thanks so much for your time!

Forum: Ask the Goalie
