Behavior issues as speech-language emerges

There is some research that has been done about the inability to talk being the cause of inappropriate behaviors in young children. Interestingly, in the past year, I've noticed a new trend. The hallmark of this trend is that when speech and expressive language begin to emerge strongly, especially between 24-36 months, kids begin to exhibit extreme hubris and a huge ego as evidenced by inappropriate communication. This communication is characterized by foul language, oppositional defiant expletives and some violent behavior. This phenomenon is appearing in families no matter what socioeconomic status or cultural group.

Is anyone else seeing this trend and if so, how?

Thanks,
Daniel

Forum: Speech Apraxia
