Is it bad that i just killed 120$ last night on Yates merchandise at the Ford trailer???? By the way the new blue Yates hat looks sweet. It is a great looking hat.

NASCAR and Drag Racing

This is a near and dear subject to my heart. I am a lifelong Drag Racing fan, and I posted on the subject before, but I was talking to my brother today about zMax Dragway at Lowe's Motor Speedway today and he brought up a couple of interesting points. One oviously, that this will be the finest Drag Racing facility in the world and it exemplifies Bruton Smith's dedication to great racing across the spectrum. Second, Bruton has made attempts on many occasions to purchase controlling stock in both major sanctioning bodies. Third, the IHRA was recently sold to an investment group that has yet to be made public and finally, Smith has built, on the grounds of zMax Dragway, a 35,000 sq. ft. office building. My brother went on to state that a press conference is scheduled at zMax with a number of NASCAR owners and drivers. Putting the pieces together makes it seem like something big is coming...
I doubt Yates will get involved, but Roush is a rumored participant in the press event. I would love, however to give David and Travis an opportunity to make a few passes in a dragster, prefferably a big block Ford powered digger. Bonnie, let Travis know that if he's interested in making a pass or two in my brother's Turbocharged Ford 23T altered, I think we could make it happen!

Best Paint Scheme The No. 28 Car
Maybe its because Im a child of the 80s, or maybe its because it just looked super cool, but that No. 28 Knight Rider paint scheme they raced this past weekend was awesome. Even when he hasnt had paint, the Kvap has had some classics: the white car with 11 million in big letters, the old style Ford paint scheme at Darlington, the CHIPS (California Highway Patrol) cars at Sonoma. Hats off to the marketing and sponsorship folks at Yates Racing theyve been creative this year, thats for sure.

Earl, I have a two part question.......Firstly, why do you wear thong underwear on race day......maybe for some good luck????? And secondly, when in Kansas do you eat BBQ (Arthur Bryants) or do you choose the hot asian dish (like Phoenix). Oh and by the way you ROCK as the best spotter in NASCAR. Big fan from the Show Me State.......Please don't take my question seriously because I tend to get stupid sometimes. God Bless Yates Racing!!!!

With this being Travis's 3rd season in Nascar's top division and he is having his best season to date, what will it take for him to continue up the ladder? Travis has won the championship in every division he has ever started in from his days in Rockford, Madison and so on including his Craftsman Truck Series Championship. What is necessary for Travis to do to continue his way up the rankings? I've known Travis personally since he was first starting out and followed him ever since. He is a clean racer and is respected for that, but so is a Mark Martin. I feel he needs to get "Hungry" so to speak and stick his nose in some places that he questions. When a Tony Stewart, or a Jimmie Johnson pass him in the pack. get on their bumper and follow them through! i know that sometimes the car won't allow it, but sometimes i think it is the thought of pushing the space that holds him from going with an advancing driver. I know this may not be viewed as a positive subject, but I would like to know others thoughts on this.
I wish nothing but good things for Travis and the Yates organization and want both to be viewed as a clean team, but I also want to see the Yates 28 in Victory Lane!

Travis in Nationwide?

I just wonder how much better Travis would be if he were able to run in the Nationwide Series as well. I mean, I know the cars are set up different but dont you think just having twice the familiarity with the tracks would be very beneficial? Is there a possibility he may ever drive in the Nationwide Series? Ive recently gotten into NASCAR heavilly (this is my first season) so this may be a stupid question. Thanks guys.

Mooresville, N.C. Hey how about Bristol? What an exciting race!

Man was it crazy spotting there but that track has got to be the most exciting place we race at, in my opinion. I like the superspeedways but Bristol and Martinsville are the places for me! I think the main reason is because youre always doing something and talking and anyone that has met me knows I just love to talk!!!

I took a ride on the Harley this week up to the race and Im looking forward to my trip to Richmond next. I just love getting out there on the open road; no phone and just beautiful scenery.

I was reading Travis fan club site and there were a few questions for me! I was so excited someone wanted to know about spotting at Bristol and what kind of binoculars I use. I could go on and on about Bristol, I just love that place, but moving on to binoculars. We dont really need binoculars at a place like Bristol unless you want to check out a fender or something on the car like maybe looking for damage. At places like Talladega and Daytona, maybe even Pocono, I am looking through them the whole race. As far as what kind of binoculars I use, I have a pair of Bushnell ones that I use for regular spotting needs. They have a 900 ft wide view of anything that I may need them for on a weekly basis. I also have a pair of Swarovski binoculars that have really good zoom on them and those are the ones I use at superspeedways and to check the damage out on the car when we need to.

Well only two more races to the Chase, the last four or five drivers to make the Chase are going to be decided down to the wire. I think this is going to be the best Chase for the Sprint Cup yet this year.

Just a question. Do Travis and Todd get along pretty good when not racing? I was just wondering at times this year on the scanner you hear doubt on both sides of the microphone. Not trying to jinx anything I hope they stay together but just wondering.

Per NASCAR.com, the top 6 cars of each manufacturer will qualify for the Shootout next year. This means Travis currently will be the Shootout, unless David can get by him in points before the end of the year.

Im looking forward to this weekend and heading back to Fontana because I feel that some of our best cars of the season were at Michigan and thats the track that we always compare to Fontana. It seems that our 1.5-mile and 2.0-mile track programs are right around where we need them to be so far this season. We had a great car out here earlier in the spring but we ended up with some splitter damage, but overall I think we would have been able to have stayed in the top-15 that race. A lot has changed since we were here in February and a lot of what we have learned over the summer we will apply to the car for this weekend and be very competitive right off the truck when we get there.

Quoting Hitachi Inspire the Next crew chief Todd Parrott on Fontana:
We had a pretty good showing earlier this season when we raced at California for the first time back in February. Unfortunately the last time we were at Fontana we were unable to qualify due to the rain and weather, but were looking forward to being able to qualify well this weekend. I always compare California and Michigan as the two very similar tracks on the circuit, and we have run very well at Michigan both times this year. The car were bringing we ran at both Pocono races so it is a fairly new car in our fleet but were feeling very confident going into this weekend.

Kvapil will sign autographs at the Ford Racing merchandise trailer on Sunday, August 31st at 1:30pm

Kvapil has an average starting position of 34.2, and an average finish of 31.8 at Fontana

Kvapil has completed 988 of 1,004 career laps at Fontana (98.4 percent)

Kvapils best finish at Fontana is 24th which he accomplished in the 2005 Auto Club 500

CHASSIS #601
Chassis #601 is the chassis the No. 28 Hitachi Inspire the Next team will be running this weekend for the Pepsi 500 at Auto Club Speedway. This is the same chassis the team last ran at Pocono Raceway for the Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 where they finished 16th.
