The Super Bowl Commemorative Book

Hey guys,

The Super Bowl book should be avaialble for purchase by next weekend (I hope). I just sent the files in and set up all the links, but I want to see what it looks like before it goes for sale. It will be available in hard copy format or as a downloadable eBook. I should be getting my proof copy later this coming week so once I'm satisfied with the book's print job and such, it will go live.

Here are the specs:

Printed: 231 pages, 8.5" x 11", coil binding, black and white interior ink

Description: Relive the amazing 2007 season which saw the New York Football Giants come together in their quest to become World Champions. This project features a collection of articles and viewpoints published during the 2007 season plus some new content written exclusively for the book by the Editor of Inside Football, the longest-running independent publication covering Giants football.

Prices: Print: $24.95 (plus S/H, based on method delivery and quantity ordered) // EBook: $19.95

A preview will be available once the link goes live. You'll be able to see the covers (which I had to change), the TOC, and the first entry.

Most of the content was compiled from past issues and internet content, but there is also quite a bit of new material which was written especially for this project.

I'm using a print on demand service which means the books are delivered as people request them. This way we don't have a lot of inventory lying around the office.

It's not a fancy coffee table type of book, but for those who get it, I hope you like it. I'm sorry it has taken so long to come out and I hope the luster hasn't worn off. It took our proofreader a little longer than anticipated to get through it due to family emergencies.

I finally got around to adding some new items to the online store, including the soon-to-be-released "Road to the super bowl" video set, the Monopoly game, and a few other things. Once we know what jrseys the rookies will be wearing, I'll get those in there as well.

Did you see where Pat listed the prelim list of Hall of Fame contenders who have been Giants? Three particularly intrigued me.

OJ: He DEFINITELY deserves to be elected. He had great years with the Cards. But, his last few years with the Giants were really terrific, capped by a SB MVP. It's his first time making the list. I sure hope he makes it. I even think that IF he does make it, he'll show his Giants' uniform. I loved him as a Giant.

Phil Simms: If somebody as bad as Joe Namth is in, Phil sure deserves it. He was a GREAT leader and was ALWAYS reliable. His career stats are NOT terrific (still MUCH better than Broadway Joe) but he DID have a SB MVP and Pro Bowl MVP. As a matter of fact, his SB record might NEVER be broken.

George Young: DEFINITELY deserves to be in. Terrific GM with a lot of football knowledge. Can't understand why he's not in already.

Nostalgia, Etc.

Matt suggested in another thread that maybe I ought to start on nostalgia, given the fact that this season appears to be a grim one. So, here goes:

Back a year or a year & a half ago, I had a thread about fans naming their All-Time Giant Teams. I asked them to include only players who they've seen. It went really well! But, there are a lot of new posters to the Tailgate and some of the "oldtimers" might want to rethink their original picks. So, you could do that if you wish. (There's no right or wrong here because we all see different things in different players. Having said that, I WILL NOT ACCEPT any All Time Team that has Jim Katcavage at DT. He played an outstanding game at DE.)

Also, you might want to discuss one game or one season that you think is memorable for whatever reason. Or one player or one play that seems memorable to you.

I'm going to present something that should start a little discussion among us, especially you, Stu! I was at a Borders Bookstore this morning and ran across a new book by Sal Paolantonio named, "The Most OVERRATED & UNDERRATED Players, Teams, Coaches & Moments in NFL History." I scanned through it and wound up buying it. Remember, it's Sal's opinion. I'm only the messenger. I haven't yet read the opinions but ony read the headlines. Here's some gems that provoke discussion:
1.) The SECOND MOST OVERRATED RB...Are you ready for this, Stu? Can you guys believe this? Here goes............TIKI BARBER! (The Most Overrated was Larry Csonka. Remember "The Fumble?)
2.) The MOST UNDERRATED RB...O J ANDERSON.
3.) THE MOST OVERRATED LB...SAM HUFF.
4.) THE THIRD MOST OVERRATED TE...SHOCKEY.

Can we chew on this for a while?
