Spraying Pinchot to kill the weeds

I know myself and other people have been having a real slow year on Pinchot. A few decent fish here and there ,but for the most part it has been slow. Is this do to the park spraying the lake?

Can anyone give me a few tips for night fishing at pinchot? Im thinking about taking a trip down there this weekend for some walleye but never fished for them down their.

Do people troll for em? What do they troll with and where?

new fisherman - looking for guidance

i'm a father of 4 young children and they all seem to have a great interest in fishing....the only problem is that I don't have a lot of knowledge other than to use night crawlers.

any guidance you can give to get started would be much appreciated!

deep cycle batteries,,,,,,

Looking to change out my deep cycle batteries. What do most of you people use? I have been checking out some on the computer and AC Delco Voyager seems like a good choice, it's sealed and maintenance free. But can not find anyone that sells them. Anybody have any other suggestions? HawgHead, do you sell batteries in your shop? I have been using wet cell forever, but would like to step up to maintenance free for a try.

NBO report 05/31-06/01

Took a client with his 7 year old son and his 9 year old daughter on Saturday for a 1/2 day trip. Weather was off and on showers water was 68 and stained. Young kids can sometimes be tough as they tend to not have a lot of patience. I tied some grubs on for them and they ended up catching quite a few fish (mostly small bass) but they were happy as they were catching fish. They ended up with 40+ on a 1/2 day charter.

Sunday I got to fish for a couple of hours with Fellow North Branch Smallmouth Alliance Member Rich Hebda. This was actually the first time i got to fish since Mid April as guide trips have been almost non-stop since then.

For post spawn fish things are starting to pick up. The spinnerbait kicked in today and we got into some decent sized fish....After I encouraged rich to change spinnerbaits he started to finally get bit....he latched on to this 19" pig.

Shortly thereafter I got the first musky of the 08 season. Not really a big one..he was only 30" but its still nice to get them.

NBO report 5/17-18

Had 2 more charters this past weekend. Saturday i took a Gent his son in law and his son out. It was a Cool start but the SB bite kicked in around 10am. They ended with 56 fish to 18". No pigs but a lot of quality smallies. Jr caught his first walleye and we saw the eagles on the nest again.

Sunday i took out two gents from NJ for a morning 1/2 day charter. Fishing was slow in the early am but as its happened the past few weeks the SB kicked in. They ended up with 35 smallies and one Northern. Biggest was a 19-1/4" with several 18er's and a lot in the 15-16" range. Saw a Big old Gobbler strutting on the shore line. As i ran over by him less than 20 yards away he stuck his old neck out and GOOBBBLLLBBBBBLLLE!

Boating in the Susky

I have lived by the susky for 40 years now and finally bought a boat. Tracker Targa 17.5' deep v with a Honda 150 4 stroke, As i live 10 min. from Goldsboro I put in there for my maiden trip. We rode around for about a hour all within sight of the dock. Was having trouble with the bow riding high but I never owned a boat before so we came in and loaded up. I installed some trim tabs and went out the next day what a difference in ride. rode around the same area ,middle of the river in eyesight of the dock, depth finder says 6-8 feet of water, then out of no where the motor hits a submerged rock and there goes my prop and lower unit, limp back to dock- new lower unit $2500- now boat is back in action I am paranoid about going back to Goldsboro- I bought this boat because I like the high sides ,seems very safe for my kids, but i also wanted to run it close to home, Is this to much boat for Goldsboro? do i need to go to Wrightsville or the bay to be safe? it only has about a 3" draft.

Caught another one on saturday which was 34" I will try to upload that pic as well.

Funny i asked my clients on saturday if they ever caught a walleye on a spinnerbait? They looked at me like i was nuts. We often catch walleyes on SB's in this one section. Usually fast, rocky current. 3 minutes after i said that, they both had walleyes on SB's.

Ended up with 115+ smallies for the weekend. 76 on saturday with 2 gents, one Gent on sunday had 49.

NBO report 5/3 and 5/4

Had a combo turkey hunt 1/2 day charter on Saturday. The client ended missing a nice Gobbler first thing in the am. The 1/2 charter started mid-morning. They ended up with 40 smallies total. The spinnerbait bite commenced! The biggest fish was 19-1/2".

Sundays Charter was with a father and son and another gent. The spinnerbait slowed somewhat in the am and it was mostly a tube day. They ended up with 98 fish including 3 walleye, a 30" northern and one fall fish. Mostly of them came on a HH mudpie tube.

Here is the pic of the biggest of the day...a FAT 19" that is getting ready to spawn.

Had 3 charters this past weekend. Fishing is starting to slow down as the smallies move towards spawning.

All together clients boated 58 on Friday, 50 on Saturday and 40 on Sunday. Biggest was 18-1/2" with the vast majority in the 15-17" range.

Saw lots of wildlife including, deer, turkey, mink, muskrat, beaver and tons of Ducks and Geese (rats with wings). Even my evil nemesis the hated cormorant.

Hawghead tubes in mudpie and Mudpie purple did well as did Rite bite green pumpkin/red flake tubes. Finally they started hitting Spinnerbaits. As the weekend progressed you had to hit the smallies on top of the head as they would not chase a SB.

Fished with George Fiene today from Minnesota....

We had a great time and George and I boated 64 fish. George boated 80% of those as i parked him in several eddies and watched him nail fish after fish.

NB report 4/17

Fished with Jason Venesky today. Blue bird skys, warm again and water temps in the mid 50's. Great day and the jerkbait bite finally commenced today!

In all we caught 102 fish today including 1 walleye and 1 Northern. Jason had the biggest fish of the day at 19". As i was reeling in a fat 17" fish there were 3 or 4 fish chasing the fish the JB in its mouth. I kept the fish out a ways from the boat and Jason promptly threw his JB over buy it an BAM! A really quality double! Hawghead tubes and Jerkbaits were the ticket today.
