Actually he finished a very competitive 8th out of 622 finishers in the 100 mile event which he described in a text after wards as "Horrific, legs are in bits", a bit like doing circuits of Kingston, Creech and Whiteways for six hours. Nice one Mike, seems you've found your forte in cycling.

Wareham MTB race

Well done to all the Poole Wheelers who rode yesterday.

John Vinson - 1st place winner of the Junior race after a titanic battle with Mark Moss.

Honorable mention to Dave Moss riding rather than marshalling on this occasion.

It would be good to see some more wheelies at the next race on 8th June.

Terrys great ride in the Crabwood event on Saturday also gave him the Wessex Vets over 50 championship. Well done Terry - I suppose that's another medal I shall have to collect for you at the Group lunch in February!

Thanks to Max,Richard,Paul H,Adam and Cath for trying to get me back on the road at Moreton last night after some muppet snapped the bolt in my seat clamp(i won't offer to do anyones mechanics)..no other bolts seemed to fit and alas i was unable to race..i am still fuming now!!well done to all those who actually managed to get going and race!I'm off for bike maintenence course.....

Change of course for "10" on 14/5/08

Hi Wheelies............Due to the road works and coning taking place on the Holes Bay roundabout, our evening "10" will be on the Upton course P402C, still starting at 7.30pm.

This morning I spoke with "the powers that be" within Poole Borough Council Highways Dept and was told that the cones are put out differently each night depending on what needs to be done, but go out at about 7.30pm. Also the works are running behind schedule as they have run into some problems on site. All of which means that the likely hood of the following weeks "25" on the 21/5/08 could be another "10" on the Upton Course..............so watch this space.

As a club we have to err on the side of caution and not put riders into undue risks and hazards, if we know about them beforehand.

Holes Bay Roundabout

I see the holes bay roundabout is a mass of traffic cones and the approach to it is down to one lane..when i drove round it last night at 20.45 i had to stop in a small queue of traffic..would it be worth considering another course for next week as people are inevitably going to get held up,plus i don't know how visible cyclists will be to other road users in the mass of cones!any thoughts??

Hi and hope your seasons going well. Just in case any of you want a change from the upton by pass 40km there is a sportive, a mere 37km from Granada (800m) up to the Pico Veleta finishing at 3200m (200m from summit where the road runs out). Its all climbing(just 2 very short downhill sections early on)and if windy makes it even more of a challenge.Last year we still had snow above 2500m in the shade and after this point the road is bad.its 30 to enter and you can register on the friday or sat before.Worth putting in your note book for another year if not this.
There are also some long training rides one on first saturday in May from Nerja to Treveles (2500m)but you have to climb to 2700 and drop down ,they say its the highest town in spain ,with a 40km climb but lots of downhill to and some really stunning views,its 110km there and you can cycle back or  take the coach.2 weeks before theres a 180km ride which strangely involves a nice climb to.
       we do a 150km ride this saturday before starting our 5 sundays of racing ,no times just points all with mountain top finishes,makes you almost pine for the upton by pass(ok maybe not)

Can anyone tell me where the start is for wednesday's P431rev? South DC soes not list anything as it is awaiting details. I'm presuming somewhere along the Sandford road and then playing up and down everyone's favoutite bit of dual carriageway but I may be mistaken? Enlighten me please?

By the way I think Mark Dobbs' incident betters mine so no accident trophy for me please.

Moreton Races start 8/5/08

Hi Wheelies, this is just to remind you roadie types that this popular series starts again this coming Thursday evening 8/5/08 at 7pm. For those of you that have not tried these races, they start from Moreton Village hall just west of the village, are based on a handicap system (you choose what group you wish to be in) around a 3 mile triangulated circuit, enter on the night, and the bonus is that there isn't a dual carriageway in sight. Come on out and have some fun............

Heart Ride 11th May 2008 - Help required

As some of you may know the annual British Heart Foundation sponsored ride takes place on 11th May Start / Finish at the QE School in Wimborne

This event is actually organised by the local DCDG ( Dorset Cycle Development Group) and they are short of marshalls.
