Free Fun Event - and You're Invited!

You and your family and friends are all invited to the 35^th Anniversay Dawn Farm Jamboree, on Sunday September 7, 2008; from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The Dawn Farm Jamboree is an annual event with free admission and free activities for all ages, including live music, hayrides, animals to pet, pony rides, a popular midway and other activities for children, and tours of the 74 acre farm. There will be live and silent auctions with a variety of donated goods and services, including trips, art, electronics, and hundreds more items. Our Founders Day award will be presented to a local supporter in recognition of his/her support of Dawn Farm and the recovering community. This event is a combination fundraiser and friend-raiser; our Jamboree provides an opportunity for Dawn Farm to give back to the community that for 35 years has supported us in our mission; to raise awareness of the tremendous power of recovery in the lives of individuals, families, and our entire community; and to raise funds that enable Dawn Farm to continue our mission to provide services for those who have no other resources.Dawn Farm welcomes the community to join us and share in celebrating our successes in helping addicts and alcoholics become part of the recovering community. Admission and activities are FREE. Food and beverages will be available at a nominal cost. Dawn Farm is the only residential treatment program in the area, and funds raised from this event will help defray treatment costs for individuals who have no other resources. Free Intervention workshop by Jeff and Debra Jay rescheduled for April 9 -

The free Intervention workshop by Jeff and Debra Jay that was cancelled on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, has been rescheduled. It will be presented on Wednesday evening, April 9, 2008; from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm, at the Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital Education Center Auditorium, 5305 Elliott Drive, Ypsilanti Michigan.

Jeff and Debra Jay are Intervention specialists and best-selling authors. With the Intervention process, people who care family, friends, clergy and others - use love and honesty to break through the denial that keeps a chemically dependent individual locked in the downward spiral of his/her disease. This program will describe how "Love First" can "raise the bottom" and create a moment of clarity that allows a chemically dependent person to accept help. This program will bring PRACTICAL INFORMATION, HELP and HOPE to anyone who cares about a chemically dependent person, and to anyone who wants to learn more about the intervention process.

This program is part of the Dawn Farm Education Series. Programs in this series will continue to be presented on various Tuesday evenings through July (then resume in October 2008.) All programs are free and open to all, including the general public and professionals. All are welcome! No registration is required. Each workshop is approved by MCBAP (Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals) to provide 1.5 (free) CE hours. We'd like to let people know about a special FREE program on Intervention by Jeff and Debra Jay on February 19, 2008:

Can others help when an addict/alcoholic doesnt seem to want help? Do people who care have to wait for the addict/alcoholic to hit bottom? What if the bottom is death, jail or insanity?

Intervention! will be presented on Tuesday evening, February 19, 2008, from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm; at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Education Center, 5305 Elliott Drive, Ypsilanti, Michigan. This free program will bring PRACTICAL INFORMATION, HELP and HOPE to anyone who cares about an alcoholic or addict, and to anyone who wants to learn more about the intervention process.

Through the intervention process, people who care learn how to use love and honesty to break through the denial that keeps an addict or alcoholic locked in the downward spiral of his/her disease. The intervention process helps raise the bottom to where the alcoholic/addict is, rather than waiting for him/her to become sicker and hit bottom on his/her own. Intervention brings about a moment of clarity that allows an addict/alcoholic to accept help.

The program will be presented by Jeff and Debra Jay; dynamic, highly experienced speakers whose presentations are liberally interwoven with compassion, humor, personal stories and real-life descriptions. Jeff Jay heads a private practice that provides intervention and crisis management services nationally. He is the co-author (with Debra Jay) of Love First: A New Approach to Intervention for Alcoholism and Drug Addiction, and At Wits End, a new book on co-occurring mental health and addiction disorders. His work has appeared on CNN, the Jane Pauley Show, PBS, Forbes Online, Moyers on Addiction and other national broadcasts and has been featured in Parade Magazine, the Washington Post and numerous publications and professional journals. Debra Erickson Jay is an addiction specialist, professional interventionist, and author. She provides intervention training and consultation services, with an additional specialty in older adult intervention. Debra has appeared frequently on Oprah and other nationally broadcast programs. The Education Series is designed to reduce the myths, misconceptions, prejudices, secrecy, shame and stigma that prevent addicts, alcoholics and their families from getting help and getting well, and to help create a community culture that supports recovery.

Programs will be presented on several Tuesday evenings from October 16, 2007 through July 1, 2008. Starting soon: free workshop series on helping teens with alcohol/other drug problems

"Teens Using Drugs: What To Know and What To Do" is a free, ongoing, two-part workshop series designed to help participants learn to understand, identify and address adolescent alcohol/other drug problems. The series is presented on the first (part 1) and second (part 2) Tuesday evenings of each month from October June (exception: second and third Tuesdays on January 2008.) The workshops are presented by Ronald E. Harrison, SW. Ron is a social worker with over 30 years of experience working in diverse settings with substance-involved teens and their families, and in presenting education and training programs on teen substance use, addiction and family issues. The program is co-sponsored by Dawn Farm, the Livingston and Washtenaw Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities Act Consortium, and Saint Joseph Mercy Health System Mission Services.

All presentations are free and open to the public. Parents, teens, family members, people who work with teens, students, and anyone interested in attending is welcome. Registration is not required. A certificate of attendance can be provided.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the 13th Annual Soberfest put on by the MOST Group (Mantaining and Organizing Sobriety Together) was a huge success. Greater Flint Project Vox kicked off the day with it's 8th Annual Walk for Recovery. Fun was had by young and old alike. We had a 14 team softball tourn., euchre and horse shoe tournaments and volley ball as well. The kids enjoyed pony rides, face painting, a trout pond and a jump tent to name a few. It was estimated that nearly 2000 people attended this event on July 22 of this year at the Union City Ballfield on Torrey Rd in Flint, MI. The highlight of the event this year was the plant manager and chairman of the shop committee(Flint Assembly Truck and Bus) taking turns in the dunk tank. These guys see the value of recovery and aren't afraid to show it! Looks like Dawn Farms is going to have another of their great events again this year and we hope to get some people together from Flint to go down and show our support. The economy in Flint might be depressed but our attitudes about putting a different face on recovery is growing every day - one at a time.

The series is organized by Dawn Farm, a non-profit community of programs providing a range of chemical dependency services. The programs will be presented by Dawn Farm staff and other experts. This years series will kick-off with a very popular workshop titled Addiction 101, presented by James Balmer, Dawn Farm President.
