Philly radio moves

Sports radio WPEN-AM (950) confirms that Harry Mayes and Jamie Yannacone, who've been doing a nighttime show known as The 700 Level Sports Fanatics, will host middays (noon to 3 p.m.) starting tomorrow. Plans for nights are not firm, though Geoff Harbaugh will be part of them, program director Matt Nahigian says.

T-Wolves Play by Play gig opens

New user to the site... thought I'd pass this along. Today's Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports the TWolves Brian Sieman is heading to LA. Article adds the team is looking for an immediate replacement. According to the NBA Blue Book Matt Chapman is the team's director of broadcasting. Here's the TWolves address:

Lisa Cornwell no longer is a weekend sports anchor

This much we know: Lisa Cornwell no longer is a weekend sports anchor, and former Ch. 5 weekend anchor Terry Daniels isn't the permanent replacement for David Rose as the "Good Morning Tristate" co-anchor.

This is what we don't know: We don't know what Cornwell will be doing at Ch. 9. She told viewers Sunday night that she was leaving sports to join the "morning team." But Bill Fee, Ch. 9 vice president and general manger, remains very secretive about her new role. (It apparently won't be as "Good Morning Tristate" co-anchor.)

"Lisa is working on a special project. Newsrooms are evolving. I cant say what shes doing. Shes not leaving the station, Fee says. Her new position will be announced later this week, he says. Doing something for the website, maybe?

LANCERS HAVE A NEW RADIO PARTNER KOTK 1420 AM

The Omaha Lancers have signed a radio deal with Salem Communications. News Talk 1420 AM will be the new home for the Lancers. We are looking forward to our new partnership with Salem, said Heather Roberts, Director of Marketing for the Lancers. There may be a few conflicts at the start of the season because of previously scheduled sporting events on KOTK, but we will be sure to notify fans prior to those games.

For the past 13 years, Lancers games were broadcast on Journal Broadcasts KOMJ 1490 AM. Journal Broadcast sold the station last spring.

In addition to the radio broadcast, fans can also catch all the action on B2 networks for $6.00 per game. B2 provides a live pay-per-view service that can be accessed on the Lancers website. Fans can watch and listen live to Lancer broadcaster Bob Bakken. This service will start when the Lancers travel to Sioux City for the USHL Fall Classic preseason tournament September 27 29.

Former SOUTH CAROLINA star and NFL standout DUCE STALEY will work the team's radio broadcasts as a sideline reporter. STALEY played seven years with the PHILADELPHIA EAGLES, where he had three 1,000-yard seasons. He signed with the PITTSBURGH STEELERS in 2004, but injuries limited his playing ability.

STALEY twice led SOUTH CAROLINA in rushing in 1995 and 1996. "It's going to be neat having him around our team," SOUTH CAROLINA coach STEVE SPURRIER said.

Gary Montgomery retiring

Gary Montgomery, sports director for Louisville's WDRB-41, will retire effective Friday, Aug. 31.

He has been with Fox since 1994 and has served as sports director for the past eight years. Montgomery also has been the primary weeknight sports anchor for the station.

Weekend sports anchor Tom Lane will replace Montgomery as sports director, according to a news release.

TalkSPORT Gets Ofcom Censure For Comments On Gays

Sports TALKSPORT/LONDON gets a censure from UK broadcasting regulator OFCOM for disparagement of gay people on two shows. The commission cited a MAY 12 edition of MIKE MENDOZA's show in which the host suggested that soccer players' urging the return of a missing girl by her kidnappers was futile because "paedophiles in general are the type of people that surely would not follow footballnot many gay people to the best of my knowledge are great football fans." MENDOZA was suspended for a week for the comment.

In another ruling, GARRY BUSHELL's JUNE 3 comments on "FOOTBALL FIRST" about a gay rights demonstration in MOSCOW ("I would not go to another country and try and impose my views on them, its up to them what they do. I think there are a lot of things to put right in this country before you go around preaching the gospel of perversion.") were "unacceptable." Both shows were held to have breached Rule 2.3.

OFCOM also cited VOICE OF AFRICA RADIO for breaching Condition 8 of its license by not being able to provide OFCOM with a requested tape of its broadcast output.

Raleigh's Buzz And Bull Back For More WW1 NFL Coverage

MCCLATCHEY BROADCASTING Sports WRBZ-A (850 THE BUZZ) and WDNC-A (620 THE BULL)/RALEIGH-DURHAM renew their agreement to carry WESTWOOD ONE/CBS SPORTS coverage of the NFL.

The stations will carry WESTWOOD ONE's regular-season and post-season coverage, including the SUPER BOWL and PRO BOWL, this season. WRBZ is also the market's affiliate for CAROLINA PANTHERS football.

Former NHL player BILL LINDSAY is joining the FLORIDA PANTHERS radio team as analyst, as RANDY MOLLER moves from analyst to play-by-play to fill the slot vacated when STEVE GOLDSTEIN moved to the TV side.

LINDSAY has been playing in GERMANY for the last two seasons after playing in 2003-04 for the ATLANTA THRASHERS. The PANTHERS will air on Sports WAXY-A (790 THE TICKET)/MIAMI this season.
