In 1969, I made the Simon and Garfunkel special for CBS. It dealt with the poor people's march on Washington and essentially called for equal rights for everyone.

I gave the sponsor, AT&T, and the network an outline of exactly what the show would be, but when the sponsor saw the finished program, they dispatched a man from their ad agency to confont me.

He angrily said, "You're using our money to sell your ideology!" I had absolutely no idea what he was talking about. I asked him, "What's my ideology?" He shouted, "The humanistic approach!"

When I realized he wasn't kidding, I naively asked, "You mean there are people against the humanistic approach?" He said, "You're G-dammed right there are."

Essentially what he was saying was that some of the states particularly in the south that were served by AT&T would be offended by all this calling for equal rights, and they felt the program wasn't in their economic interests.

After I refused to make any changes, they removed their name from the special. One of the changes they requested was I lower the sound on Coretta King saying, "Poverty is a child without an education." I asked to what level they wanted me to lower it. He said, "Make it inaudible."

To their credit, CBS ran the special, as I presented it to them. Alberto Culver came aboard as a sponsor. The Paley Center for Media formerly known as the Museum of Television and Radio is hoping to honor Paul, Art and the special on its fortieth anniversary next year.

Hey ! I have a new little God daughter ! She was born at 3pm and weighs 7lbs 5oz ! I have two nieces now and one nephew ! And my sister is expecting again in September !

New Photo!

Where did it come from? I found it on myspace and then at Art's myspace,
wow, I love it. Now then there is the frapper thing, someone put it in there and
you can make it bigger. I'm not sure if this page is just for us, some of the photos
have nothing to do with Art, I'm looking for 8 x 10's but have found nothing you
can make that big. I wish I knew how to change the photo size like that, I click
on all of them, just in case. Thank you for whoever put up that photo.

Paul Simon

Paul Simon is one of the most distinguished songwriters and performers of our time. Of his 12 Grammy Awards, three ("Bridge Over Troubled Water," "Still Crazy After All These Years" and "Graceland") were for albums of the year. In 2003 he was given a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for his work as half of the duo Simon and Garfunkel. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame, both as a member of Simon and Garfunkel and as a solo artist. The American Film Institute included his song, "Mrs. Robinson" from The Graduate, in the top 10 of its "100 Years 100 Songs."

The concert appearances he is most fond of were the two concerts in Central Park in New York (with his partner and childhood friend Art Garfunkel in 1981, and as a solo artist in 1991) and the series of shows he performed at the invitation of Nelson Mandela, making him the first American artist to perform in post-apartheid South Africa.

His philanthropic work includes co-founding the Children's Health Fund, which donates and staffs mobile medical vans that bring health care to poor and indigent children in urban and rural America. Simon has also raised millions of dollars for varied causes that include AMFAR, the Nature Conservancy and Autism Speaks.

Simon has been honored with the first annual Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song (2007), the Kennedy Center Honors (2003) and the United Negro College Fund's Frederick D. Patterson Award (1989).

SG in Munich Photo Shoot?

Someone sent me this note from youtube saying SG were in a ton of photos all
shot at the Olympic Grounds in Munich, so I would say she meant 1972? Anyone
ever heard of this. There is no SG music in the Munich videos or she took them
for ABBA?

Have you met Paul?

I thought I put this on here before, but I get no answers on Bodo's site, it seems
so strange that no one has ever met him or wants to talk about it? I 'm just
curious. And I expect even had I know about BAM ahead of time, I wouldn't have
gone because all I read about are all these people, most I never heard of playing
with him and I don't want to hear them. I sure never expected Josh Groban to
be there. But if you have any stories to share from anytime, please do.
