Vin Diesel raises hope for Riddick sequels!

Vin Diesel told MTV News that they are still working on the two planned Riddick sequels:

David Twowy right now is writing the scripts. The only question is whether we take a page from the Lord of the Rings guys and try to shoot the two chapters at the same time. There are two more in mind, he said of Riddick, the Furyan warrior first introduced in the 2000 film Pitch Black. The Chronicles of Riddick was presented as a three part trilogy that would answer Pitch Black in the same way that Lord of the Rings answered The Hobbit.

Those are lofty goals indeed for a movie that was very poorly received when it opened in 2004, and had a mediocre performance at the domestic box-office (where it made just $57 million). Diesel, though, is undaunted, insisting that the long space between sequels has nothing to do with convincing others to get on board, and everything to do with wanting to get it right. (To be fair, Riddick performed well overseas, and also spawned a best-selling video game which many considered to be better than the movie.)

Everyone knows I love the Riddick character and Im always working on it, Diesel asserted. It just takes five years to make another one because David Twohy and I are so precious about it.

So where will Riddick go next? After taking the throne of the Necromonger King at the end of the last chapter, is there any doubt?

Sooner or later we all end up in the Underverse, he said of where we can expect the next chapter to take place, adding in a Riddick-like voice, Sooner or later.

http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2008/08/25/vin-diesel-promises-two-more-riddick-sequels/

Forum: The Chronicles Of Riddick

Any chance we can get some pics of you doing your magic? The pics don't have to show anything about the film your making (like the CoR pictures on the main page), maybe you just hanging out with the actors or whatever.
would be kick ass!

Forum: Films In The Works

David Twohy for AvP 3

David Twohy is an exceptional filmmaker and most of his work is extremely underrated! He is a great writer/director whose style has a unique flair that I have not seen in many other's style. Twohy can masterfully use creative camera angles to showcase scenes in visually impressve and awe inspiring shots. As for his writing, no matter how the final product turns out, his writing always has ingenuity. Take a look at the The Fugitive, a chase picture unlike anything seen prior to it and it really went on to inspire the style in the Bourne films & Shooter. Elements from his A3 script inspired aspects in the subsequent Alien films. Water world was a fresh take on the post apocalyptic genre. The Arrival took elements from classic sci-fi horror films and David Twohy inserted his own ingenuity into it & much like Water world, it was fresh & it contained a strong message about ecological footprints and global warming. Once again in PB, Twohy and the Wheat brothers took inspiration from classics to build their blue print and create something very fresh, high quality & rewarding. Their ingenuity deserves special mention thanks to their creation of the Riddick character who is very memorable & charismatic despite the character being an anti-hero. Twohy has both incredible directional & writing talent!

The Alien & Predator films are loved by many but the AvP films were utter abominations which have put these once great franchises on life support. Given that Fox wants to only pursue AvP films, let's actually try to get someone talented enough who can pull the series out of the mess it has fallen into. David Twohy, who is the director of the very good futuristic sci-fi Riddick films and the writer of The Fugitive, is perfect for an AvP film. David Twohy is the most suitable candidate and probably the only filmmaker with some talent who just might touch this lowly franchise. We should consider ourselves very fortunate if someone of his caliber touches this series. Twohy is familiar with sci-fi horror (PB, Below), he is familiar with sci-fi action (TCOR, The Arrival) and he is familiar with the Alien series (unproduced A3 script) while he can masterfully direct futuristic sci-fi, his writing has lots of ingenuity and he is ultimately an effective director making him the ideal director for AvP 3.

Fox themselves had inquired for his availability to write/direct AvP but he couldnt take it due to conflicting projects but now if Twohy himself approaches Fox, there is a big chance they are going to hire him. Twohy has two current projects and if they are even moderately successful like PB then Fox will pounce on him. With Foxs current practices, all three franchises may be dead within a decade. David Twohy can rather easily make a decent film that puts prior AvPs and even A:R or P2 to shame bringing in not only a lot of optimism back but Twohy himself will find lots of respect from Alien/Predator fans & his career will get a major boost! Twohy said that if he were to do a film in another sci-fi franchise then he wants to start on a new one however certainly rebooting the AvP series and taking it in his own direction would be a great idea in this case. David Twohy can certainly very easily ignore the previous two films, reboot the franchise, take it in a new direction and make a quality film that puts both prior AvP films to utter shame!

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/6022

One relevant and interesting tidbit is that david Twohy wrote an unproduced Alien 3 script! Twohy's A3 script was very decent and elements like the prison setting and genetically altered Aliens were used in A3 & A:R respectively. In my opinion, his script would have made for a far better fourth film than A:R.

http://www.scifiscripts.com/scripts/alien3_twohy.txt

If David Twohy hopefully does an AvP reboot film then he can certainly implement some of his good/interesting ideas from the script into the film!
A petition has been created which may have some influence on him prompting him to approach Fox. As a fan, I know you want these franchises to live on and to return to it's former glory and we should consider ourselves very fortunate if someone of Twohy's caliber touches the franchise now. Do your part by showing your sincerity! Support the petition, promote the petition, e-mail the petition to your friends, tell them to pass it on to others etc. Your effort is greatly appreciated & you never know, it may pay off at the end!

http://www.petitiononline.com/avp3/petition.html

David Twohy isn't aware of the petition & it's being kept a surprise. The petition will be presented to him soon after it gathers a respectable amount of signatures & once he is done with his current project in order to move him to the cause of the fans. Twohy does usually reply to the e-mails sent to him and does listen to fans. I suggest you to support the petition and let's all remain optimistic!

Forum: Cinephile Section

Riddick RPG?

I was wondering if anyone ever thought about (or would play) a Riddick based RPG (table top of course). Since we all know Vin's a big fan of D&D, I was wondering if this suggestion ever came up while producing the movies? Apparently, someone's created a play-by-email based version called
Summer's End, but it's not really official. I'm guessing this might be easier to create once we find out more about The Underverse in the next movie and have more types of characters to play, but I'm just wondering if it ever came up while producing the movies.
Thanks!
-Capey

Forum: The Chronicles Of Riddick

CoR thoughts and opinions

CoR is near and dear to my heart. I love the movie and it is one of the very few movies of that genre that my wife enjoys almost as much as me. I want to first say congrats and I'm looking forward to more!

I have been anxious for a sequel since I watched the final scene in the theater years ago.

I urgently implore Mr. Twohy and any who are involved in future Riddick adventures to remember a few things as they look forward. The heart and soul of CoR is Riddick's journey, his choices, and his experiences. I hear a lot of people crying out for more "ass kicking" and less "drama", but one without the other would not do justice to the character. I appreciate the moral line that is drawn and followed through the movie as well. Even when Riddick strattles the fence or wavers, the audience feels a pull towards goodness and I find myself hoping that some day Riddick can acknowledge that part of himself and finally find some peace. As much as he fights and kills to stay alive and free, you can see a different side of him that is very moved by innocent suffering. Exploring this moral reality through the rough and imperfect Riddick is what compels me to watch. I hope any future movies are concieved in this vein as well so that a movie series doesn't just degenerate (think AvP) due to a lack of understanding of the subject and its popularity.

The future concepts and sci-fi elements of the universe were top-notch. Easily on par with the creativity seen in Star Wars for example. I applaud all those involved in bringing the universe to life. Keep up that inventiveness!

The Necromongers MADE the movie. Or should I say, they provided the perfect vehicle for the story. It brings an epic backdrop to the personal story. Do not shun that setup just to show "more of Riddick and his ass kicking". Tell a story. Let Riddick be in it.

The only part of CoR I have trouble watching is the Crematoria sequence (interior, not exterior). It felt kind of low-budget compared to other aspects of the movie, like some enormous set piece was missing. The infamous, super max prison felt more like a basement with a padlocked door and about six guys keeping watch over it through closed-circuit television monitors. I guess I expected something a little more professional and official. The idea was sound, but it just didn't match the grandeur of other parts of the movie. Plus, I have to mention Kyra. She looked a little to well-kept for a prison inmate. A bit model-ish. I think I would have dirtied her up and made her a little more of a tragic figure.

The best of the movie: Riddick's tears as he looks at Kyra in the end. The politics of the Necromongers. The mystery of the Underverse. The final scene (gave me chills).

Give us more, Mr. Twohy! Keep that moral line and lets see where Riddick goes from here, as a person. Don't let CoR degenerate into a mindless action flick. Tell an epic tale of good and evil in the universe with amazing and innovative action scenes. I'm excited to see more!

Forum: The Chronicles Of Riddick

The Chronicles of Riddick 2

Okay, okay, now on to the really important stuff like What the fuck is happening with RIDDICK? Yes, I get your emails demanding another movie; yes, I keep bumping into you guys in airports and at conventions and I take your pleas to heart. All I can say now is Were talking about it. The DVD numbers were really good we know that, and some potential financiers know that. But if another movie surfaces, it probably wont be a Universal movie and probably will be an independent movie. Which means well have to make it for substantially less than the last installment. But thats okay. PITCH BLACK was $22 million all in. Maybe its time to go back to our roots as we go on to The UnderVerse.

http://www.davidtwohy.com
Yeah baby! This makes my day

Even if it doesn't have the greenlight yet. No Universal is not necessarily a bad thing. When they can find some good financiers who know how Riddick needs to be handled, then it's fine. I guess they could make the sequel with like 50 or 60 million and still keep some continuity from the first Chronicles. I hope they still have parts of the Necropolis set, because they will need it. I wonder if the overall story arc or Riddick's arc will change substantially, because of that.
Because it would be hard to say: "Ok, forget all the Elemental and Furyan stuff, let's just go to the Underverse and kill some monsters, while trying to find and save Kyra..." That would be kind of strange and another simple monster movie wouldn't be that interesting after the set up in the first Chronicles. Anyway, I hope that they will make the movie soon. Dark and R rated!

Forum: The Chronicles Of Riddick

TCOR: Assault on Dark Athena - Announced

The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena has been announced!

It will be released for PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 in 2007.

The game will include all of the content from "TCOR: Escape from Butcher Bay,"
with reworked, HD graphics.

An additional 'Chapter' will also be added, centering on the Merc Ship "Dark Athena,"

Here's the article from GameSpot:

"This weekend, SpikeTV's GameHead program confirmed rumors that a Chronicles of Riddick game is coming to next-gen consoles. Speaking with host Geoff Keighley, Sierra Entertainment executive producer Pete Wanat confirmed that The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena is being developed for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Assault on Dark Athena will contain all the content from The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, which was a critical and commercial hit on the PC and original Xbox. It will also add new material that takes place after the previous game's titular jailbreak and feature reworked graphics.

"This isn't a case when we took the old-gen game and up-rezed it," said Wanat. "All the textures are being redone so it truly looks like a next-gen game." The producer also confirmed that developer Starbreeze, Universal Pictures, and Tigon Studios--Vin Diesel's game company--are all collaborating on the new game. Diesel himself is also doing new voice work for the expanded storyline.

Wanat also confirmed that the PS3 version of the game will take advantage of the console's motion-sensing Sixaxis controller. He called the controller "totally perfect" for the game's shiv-based prison combat, but did not elaborate. Wanat also dodged questions about whether or not Assault on Dark Athena would have a multiplayer component, saying only "it would be beneficial if it did in the era of Xbox Live."

Early Wednesday, Sierra formally announced Assault on Dark Athena--and answered some of the questions Wanat left hanging. The game will indeed "for the first time in the Riddick universe, take action in intense multi-player combat." Sierra clarified that said MP mode would be online-enabled. Both the 360 and PS3 editions of Dark Athena will be released later this year.

Sierra also revealed some plot details about the game. "The game introduces the ominous Merc-ship Dark Athena, which sits silent like a marauding spider, awaiting helpless prey in the dark reaches of the galaxy," the publisher said in a statement. "Players must face a large, bloodthirsty operation led by the dreaded Captain Revas and her slaves-turned-controllable combat drones, storm though death-defying events and fight fierce enemies in a battle of malice and gore."

Original Article

Congrats everyone!
Brazilian Job Update?

Hello everybody,

back in April 2006 David confirmed that he was still working on the script for The Brazilian Job. In the latest news entry concerning this, date July 20th, 2006, he mentions that he is "only weeks away from finishing screeplays for both Paramount and Columbia". I guess the one for Paramount was The Brazilian Job.

Now it's almost another year later. Does anybody know if there's a finished script after all this time? Or is this project no longer on the cards for David?

Thanks in advance
Clopin

Forum: Films In The Works
