OYSTER RUN DANGER

This was sent to our store e-mail.
RIDING TO OYSTER RUN?
BE VERY AWARE!
TELL YOUR FELLOW RIDERS!

Serious motorcycle hazard I-5 construction area mile post 189-192

Spread the word............DANGER for motorcyclist

This was sent to DOT.... It almost killed me tonight...I have over 150,00 motorcycle miles and this one just about got me tonight.

There is a very very dangerous construction situation for motorcycles in the construction zone I-5 NB around mp 189-192 or so. Very shortly after the first sign NB declaring the construction zone there is a 3-4 inch high lane edge that crosses the lane #2 or #3 at an angle. I rode through there in the dark around 10 PM tonight and I could not see it until I hit it. You have no choice but to hit this ledge at an angle. When I hit this ledge at about 55 mph it threw my bike violently and I had to struggle to stay aboard. This is going to kill a motorcyclist and I was lucky tonight. Shortly AFTER this angled ledge is the first sign cautioning motorcyclists. About a mile further north there is another angle ledge that is similar. A 3-4 inch high ledge crossing the lane without warning is deadly for motorcyclists. Next weekend is the Oyster Run in Anacortes and 10-15,000 motorcyclists will be headed towards Anacortes up I-5. If this ledge is not fixed someone is going to get killed because of it. There is a serious liability here for the state.

Dwight Holmes

La Conner, Wa 98257

Retired Deputy King County

Forum: Rides

Cycle Works Ride

Family stuff usually keeps me busy, but on this Sunday I was determined to go on Cycle Work's shop ride.

Jeff planned this out, and picked the route. It was real.

It was a small cordial group, and although we were hoping for more, this made it a real ride instead of herding a mob bumping into each other like some rides.

A pleasent, fast paced ride to a checkpoint were a prize helmet was given away, and then we were off into the mountains on the climb up to the Mt St Helens viewpoint.

Quite twisty.

Excellent road, perfect weather, and the view at the top was superb.

Keep an eye out for another one of these if you want to go on really good ride!!

Forum: Rides

Harley Davidson front wheel spacer

Can somebody clue me in as to what direction the front wheel spacer on a newer H.D. points. The spacer in question has two groves on one end. Do the grooves point in towards the wheel or out away from the wheel when installed? Do the grooves even matter at all? Why are there grooves in the spacer? I understand that you have a master certified Harley-Davidson tech. working there, perhaps he could enlighten me on this issue. Thanks! Looking forward to reading the reply.
Forum: Ask Cycle Works
