Redcar Half Marathon for Charity

Gentlemen,
              Results from Redcar Half Marathon, took place on Sun. 20th April,
on a very cold, windy day. Our three charity participants results where
1st Rob Kelly in a very creditable time raising 270
2nd Dean Moore also a very creditable time raising 132
3rd. Sgt. Dave Waters who also finished in April. raising 132
( He started when he left St. George's Dinner at 5.00 am, he received a medal for closing the Bar)
    What a fantastic effort from the Boys raising 534 for the Tommy Leech Appeal.
          Very well done, it was the coldest recorded since the Race began.

Tommy Leech Appeal Statement

Gentlemen,

I now have a cheque for 3,700 to hand over to the appeal.

This is the sum raised by you the Foot Soldiers and The Battalion while they were in Afghan.

We will arrange a Photo/Press Call with TFM Radio who are running the Appeal, this will not only raise the profile of Tommy but all the great Coldstreamers out there who have contributed.

Every penny raised has been paid into our Charity Coldstream Kids, this was so that the money was accountable and a visible banking centre.

That money has now been drawn out of the Charity Account and I have it to pass on.

Although there is various Coldstreamers with events planned in the future, I feel I as a individual have done all I can for this fantastic cause.

I will carry on making people aware of the on-going developments with Tommy and what the Charity is doing and will help where I can.

I must now devote my time to the important task of securing funds for all those of our Coldstreamer Family in need.

On behalf of all concerned and I wish to single out Bivi and Adam for their fantastic support.

May I offer our deepest gratitude for your kindness and care, proving once again we are Nuilli Secundus.

L/Cpl Simon Ware Jan 1969 - Aug 1991

Please find below the Obituary for the late, L/Cpl Simon Ware, provided by his brother Darren Ware. I personally knew Simon and was always impressed with his smartness, enthusiasm and his pride at being a Coldstreamer. RIP Simon.

Franco Gasparotti

Simon was born in Enfield, North London, on 23 Jan 1969. He left school in 1986 and joined the Coldstream Guards and after his training at Pirbright was posted to the First Bn in Hong Kong. Having conducted many overseas exercises whilst in HK he returned with the Bn to Wellington Bks. He deployed to Belfast on a roulement tour in Sept 1989 based at North Howard Street Mill. In October 1990 he transfered to the Second Bn as the First Bn had been warned for a tour of Germany and this would have messed up his wedding plans if he had gone to Germany. On March 9th 1991 he married Carol Nice in the Guards Chapel and two days later he deployed to South Armagh with Number 4 (Ops) Company based at Bessbrook Mill. At 0800hrs on Sat 17 August 1991 he was the third man in a four man team as they patrolled along a fire break through Carrickovaddy Woods, near to Newtownhamilton. The remaining two teams sattelited the wood. As he approached a bend in the track a device detonated from his right side killing him instantly. The device was a 250lb landmine planted by the IRA and placed in an embankment to achieve maximum affect. So large was the explosion that he was killed instantly and his body was never found. Only parts of him and military equipment was found nearby.

Coldstream Kids Statement - Fundraising From Hadrian's Wall Challenge 2007

Fellow Coldstreamers,

I would like to bring to everyone's attention the current figures regarding sponsorship monies which have so far been raised from last years Hadrian's Wall Sponsored Challenge.

The current figure for sponsorship monies raised stand at 19,560 with a further 3000 to be added from further pledges which will shortly be received. This will then take the above mentioned figure to 22,560 which is an outstanding effort of which I would like to thank the following.

COLDSTREAM GUARDS REGIMENTAL CAMPAIGNS PROJECT

PROJECT DETAILS:
A ShinyCapstar project to list all locations (home bases) of the 1st and 2nd Battalion (plus 7 & 8 Coy) and all operational tours that have taken place from 1970 to present day

FUTURE:
When complete, the timeline will allow users to click on a specific link (home base or operational tour) and add their own images and experiences, allowing you the public who have your own unique experiences to take part in re-writing Regimental History.

REQUIRED:
Below is a very rough timeline that has been put together over the last couple of days. It is inevitable that some dates and locations are wrong this is the reason for asking for assistance.

I need to find the exact month that Battalions/7&8 Coys moved from place to place (including operational tours), names of the home posting (i.e Caterham/Windsor) and names of the Barracks that were used.

Once ready, the timeline will be open to anyone wishing to add their own images, videos and experiences for the whole world to see!
