V-PILF's Speech at the RNC

I thought Sarah did an awesome job last night with her speech at the Republican National Convention. She is so crowd savvy and worked it good. Sarah can run a speech & and I don't see how she can't help but to pick up a bunch of the Billary vote.

& we can drop the "but she had a professional speech writer".... who don't/?/

In an entertaining way she blasted these & many other zingers:

>>>"And though both Senator Obama and Senator Biden have been going on lately about how they are always, quote, fighting for you, let us face the matter squarely.
There is only one man in this election who has ever really fought for you in places where winning means survival and defeat means death and that man is John McCain."<<<

>>>"But listening to him speak, its easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform not even in the state Senate.<<<

>>>This is a man who has authored two memoirs but not one major law. This is a man who can give an entire speech about the wars America is fighting and never say the word victory except when hes talking about his own campaign.<<<

>>>"This is a man who can give an entire speech about the wars America is fighting, and never use the word 'victory' except when he's talking about his own campaign. But when the cloud of rhetoric has passed, when the roar of the crowd fades away, when the stadium lights go out, and those Styrofoam Greek columns are hauled back to some studio lot, what exactly is our opponent's plan?... Victory in Iraq is finally in sight, he wants to forfeit."<<<

>>>* My fellow citizens, the American presidency is not supposed to be a journey of personal discovery.

i just wanted to send out my greetinggs and salutations to everyone (hey uncle blaise and brother john). I have been very busy to say the least, but i have poked my head in a few times over th epast months to see what was going on with the yashai family. I also wanted you to know that Nat'l Geographic I'ntl has contacted our Gayong group to make a documentary on Malay Silat. Myself and my Teacher were chosen to host the show and will be filming in m'sia this december. I am just waiting to get exact dates to pass on to the Navy to see if they will let me go. If everything goes as planned, I will let everyone know the air dates. I think other than Silat Seni Gayong, another silat will be featured as well. I have been told so far that filming will primarily take place at the m'sia police academy in KL i presume. It should be a great experience that i'm looking forward to be a part of. i hope everyone is doing well!
God Bless...
Joel

Forum: General Discussion

Any Yashai in South Africa? Need a place to train!!

Hi All -

It looks like I may be spending some time (possibly 3+ weeks!) in South Africa - I think in the Johannesburg area. Frankly, I've been on too long of a hiatus from training, and I'm hoping to take an opportunity like this to get some intense workouts in. Of course, it's always an opportunity to learn something new, also!!

Anybody in that area on this forum, or know anybody in that area, or any connections at all? I'm well aware of the environment there, so I'm not going to just "poke around".

Any advice or pointers would be great - thanks all!!

Forum: Yashai Warcraft Discussion

Workshop Announcement.

Hi, I've been asked by Bruno Cruicchi to specifically mention this here. He will be in Los Angeles as a presenter in this workshop. If this is out of place, please remove it. I believe we are all part of a big family,.. nothing better than training and maybe some light "beverages" to bond and dissipate tension. Bruno told me he was anxious to speak to Blaise and the Yashai group since he admires their skills and will. -- Tom Furman

# June 28th - 29th, 2008
Location: Los Angeles, Ca
DBMA Summer Camp
Contact: Marc Denny
Phone: 310-543-7521
Email: craftydog@dogbrothers.com
Forum: General Discussion

Systema and Andrew Jordan

Sunday I went to a seminar given by Andrew Jordan on Systema, the Russian fighting system. He also presented knife technique. For those that dont know, Mr Jordan is a British knife maker of high skill. Hes trained with one of the national treasures of Japan in sword making and he father also made blades. His personal knife was very fine. He learned Systema in Europe and spent many years as a fencer. He also learned Apache knife fighting from Robert Redfeather. I have no opinion on Mr Redfeather as I have no knowledge of him. Perhaps someone here could enlighten me?

The Systema was most interesting. He started us out with how to fall, since they always work on hard surfaces. It is a very soft and relaxed fall or roll and comes up into a tight guard or low stance. I appreciated this information since the idea of doing break-falls as I was taught on macadam has always been rather hair-raising. We went outside and he demonstrated and a couple of us decided to try as well. It definitely felt better to me. He then demonstrated a bunch of technique (rather too quickly for me to really get them) that were efficient and made use of joint locks and upsetting balance. There were similar moves in Hapkido and a take-down similar to one from Kempo, but there was one arm-snaking technique that was completely new to me. It thought it was worth further study.

The knife part of the seminar was another story. It was not all bad, and the perspective from which he was teaching could have been attributed to his clearly stated desire for his students to avoid litigation by ending up on uTube. I forgot to mention my fellow students were mostly law-enforcement. He spent considerable time emphasizing the danger of knives, and used a most amusing method to make the point that there was a difference between the knife and the delivery system (hand), as such, we would be attacking the hand. So far so good.

He was NOT teaching kill shots. The idea was that you hit them enough times and they bleed out and somehow you are supposed to just dodge enough to keep from getting cut. He would show a technique and then each one of us would get chased around the room while he poked at us with a nicely padded glove and yelled at us for not doing the technique right and not moving fast enough. I found this stupid since how do you get it right if you have no time to practice? But ok, Ill give it my best shot. When it was my turn for this round, I did my best, but was still not up to snuff. I wasnt upset, but when he left me an opening, I just poked him in the solar plexus with my training knife. The conversation went like this.

Jordan: Whyd you do that? Whyd you do that!!
Me: um, habit, training.
Jordan: Who trained you to do that!
Me: (pause) Blaise Loong.
Jordan: Oh. (long pause) well, you cant do that if youre law-enforcement!
Me: Im not law-enforcement.

After that we resumed at a more reasonable pace and no yelling (at least at me). He didnt specifically attribute the knife techniques he was teaching to anyone, so I have no idea if this approach was his own or how he had been taught. Anyway, it was an interesting day. I was pleased that Blaise's teaching came out without my having to think about it. If I got that one thing out of the day, it was worth the $30.

Forum: General Discussion
