NY bands come to LA-

Any LA Monkeys going to see the Danileson show at the Troub Saturday night? I'm going you, won't be taking my dog, though. She wouldn't abide Mr. Smith's vocals.

Also the enrapturing My Brightest Diamond (Asthmatic Kitty Records) is playing on the 26th.

dan -

based on the posts below, i've set up a facebook group about the choir, simply called 'facebook monkeyboard' - maybe i'll change it to a more clever name.

at any rate, do you have any photos you could authorize me to put up, something to help get the group populated a little bit? i'd like to put up the 'o how the..' cover as the main image for now. any objections?

i've made it clear it's an 'unofficial' fan site. let me know if you have any issues with it.

thanks,

greg

facebooking

just curious if many people in the yard (can i say that now that i've been posting here for 5 years? is there a time limit you have to put in before you're really in the club?) are listed on facebook? i know some people are trying to maintain a more 'strict' kind of anonymity, but i'm not really in that camp.

at any rate, i've been using facebook for about 6 months and have found it to be a much easier way to keep in touch with friends (not to take away anything from this site). at any rate, i was curious if people used facebook enough to warrant setting up a choir 'group' site.

you can locate me on there at: gregory walker, auburn university and/or atlanta.

Where are they now?

I mean, really?

It boggles my brain that these guys appear to be so tight after 25 plus years. I have some friends that I've known for that long, but we don't live in the same area and I don't deal with them every day. So, I guess I'm wondering what a day in the life is like for each Choir member? What are their day jobs? How often do they see each other? Do they ever stop and look back at their accomplishments over the years?

Sorry.... getting nostalgic.
vacation - part 1

My wife and I recently took 10 days to explore the east side of the Sierras and parts of Calif. and Nevada. We experienced several inches of snow and subsequent dangerous roads at Bridgeport on down past the Mammoth Lakes area. We ended up going all the way down to Lone Pine and started some great adventures there. Here's some of the places we visited:
Bishop Creek Canyon - outside of Bishop, Ca.
Manzanar - one of the WW2 Japanese internment camps outside of Lone Pine, CA. Nice exhibits, a film, curios, and a driving tour of the premises.
Alabama Hills - just outside of Lone Pine; site of filming parts of over 400 Western (cowboy) movies. Just so happens we were there for their annual film festival. Lucky to get a room....people dressed up in cowboy gear and riding horses down the main street all weekend.
Mt. Whitney - just west of the Alabama Hills. The road (Whitney Portal) takes you right up to the trailhead at a little over 8,300' elevation. We just day-hiked the trail for 3 hours or so - hiked about 2 to 2 1/2 miles up to around 9,000-9,500 feet of altitude. Steep and tiring.... I'd like to try it again and eventually summit.
Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest - home to the oldest living trees - some 2,000 - 4,000 years old. In the White Mtns. outside of Bishop, Ca. Hiked the 4+ mile Methusaleh Trail through a Bristlecone Pine grove (Schulman Grove) at about 10,000 feet of altitude. Nearby is White Mountain Peak, the 3rd(?) highest in the lower 48 states at 14,246'. You can drive up to about 12,000' from what I understand and pick up the trailhead. Maybe next time we can do that along with the second grove of bristlecone pines. (Patriarch Grove).
Death Valley - spent about 2 1/2 days traveling all around the Valley and Mountains. One of my new favorite spots. Side trip to Pahrump, NV (home of Art Bell and the only Wal-Mart we could find). The Audi Mileage Marathon was driving right by us all over the area. Gotta get me a 4x4 to hit all the spots - already picked it out - Toyota Tacoma 4x4 SR5 Double Cab with TRD off-road package and a V6. Now if I can only convince the wife.

Check out the links for pix/slideshow. I'll do the rest of the trip later.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/runtmc2jc/sets/72157608463122866/

http://www.flickr.com/photos/runtmc2jc/sets/72157608465303149/

http://www.flickr.com/photos/runtmc2jc/sets/72157608466332883/

http://www.flickr.com/photos/runtmc2jc/sets/72157608460973950/

http://www.flickr.com/photos/runtmc2jc/sets/72157608461685626/

http://www.flickr.com/photos/runtmc2jc/sets/72157608461954906/

http://www.flickr.com/photos/runtmc2jc/sets/72157608462371684/

http://www.flickr.com/photos/runtmc2jc/sets/72157608462529274/

http://www.flickr.com/photos/runtmc2jc/sets/72157608462259596/

http://www.flickr.com/photos/runtmc2jc/sets/72157608470249823/

http://www.flickr.com/photos/runtmc2jc/sets/72157608462434520/

http://www.flickr.com/photos/runtmc2jc/sets/72157608468177255/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/runtmc2jc/sets/72157608465257326/

http://www.flickr.com/photos/runtmc2jc/sets/72157608465404770/

Lo-Fidelity Presents:
Mike Roe - "Harvest Loon" tour 2008

Please join us as Mike dons a turkey suit and rings in the harvest with a continuation of his successful and much lauded "John The Baptist" and "Holy Ghost Building" tours....

"The John The Baptist and 77s Holy Ghost Building tours played very well but both were so brief.
i talked with him today and he asked me pass on the following.......

Monday, October 20, 2008

1:51 AM - Brians not Dead

We have received several e-mail regarding the death of Brian Healy due to some internet gossip and we at Dead Artist Syndrome would like to set the record straight.

1. Brian is not dead. Last Friday morning he was rushed to the emergency room with massive chest pains and shortness of breath, as most people know Brian has had previous heart attacks and a series of heart & health problems over the years including a stent in his heart.

2. An emergency angioplasty was performed and was successful as of now he has no blockage of or to his heart and a full recovery is expected in time.

3 .Brian is now out of the hospital and recuperating at home with his family.

We would like to thank all of you for your prayers and concern and will inform you of any changes in the situation, but for now Brian simply needs to rest a get his strength back so he can resume a normal life.
