12V swampcooler for 4x4??

I saw something like this mentioned in a trucker mag the other day and searched "12v swamp cooler" on Goggle. I found several sites that sell them. Some just use water, some use ice. They are somewhat expensive. I have seen the big swamp coolers used in maint shops and they work pretty good. (I'll explain to you how they work in case you don't know). The one I linked here uses ice water and blows out cool air like an AC.
http://www.swampy.net/ac12.html

Something like this doesn't look like it would be too hard to build at home....if ya had the right parts. Anybody ever tried to make something like this? I am going to look around and see if I can figure out how to make one. My idea is to use the ice water in a cooler....most of us carry one...and figure out how to pump it through some kind of coil or evaporator and use a 12v fan to move the air. Looks to me that it shouldn't be that hard to make and it could be mounted in your rig and have "hillbilly air conditioning". I am wondering if you mounted an old heater coil(with a 12v fan mounted to it) in your rig and pumped ice water through it if that would work?

Forum: General Discussion

What "organization" can really do!!

I just scanned through this week's edition of the Grundy County Herald newspaper. I glanced over at least two articles telling of monies that had been granted .....some to a park here on the mountain and some to the Mountain Goat Trail (some of you older wheelers know what this is). The first article I read said that about $582,000.00 (FIVE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY-TWO THOUSAND) had been granted to complete a trail from Cowan, Tn. to Palmer , Tn. on the old railroad bed. The other article said that $197,000.00 had been granted to further a park here on the mountain. Like I said, I only glanced at the articles and you can read the full details in today's paper. First of all...I AM NOT complaining or whinning that these groups/organizations got this funding. I am very happy that they got this money to complete/further their efforts.
The point I am trying to make here ....is that the 4x4 community can acomplish these same things!!! THERE ARE MANY MORE 4X4ers/OHVers than the number of people in these other groups I speak of! Yes....I am on my soap box again! When the day comes that the OHV community gets all their heads together and combines their efforts... WE too can apply for(and get) some of this state and federal money to help establish a 4x4 or OHV park.....or improve existing areas. I hate to keep beating this horse, but we cannot continue to "hide in the shadows" or "stick our heads' in the sand".There is power in numbers and WE have the numbers already....we just need to get our numbers in one concentrated group and focus on a goal. Until that day comes.....we are doomed! The OHVer is an endangered species as far as I'm concerned....and we are killing ourselves. I do not have the political/business savy to accomplish this and even if I did, I could not do it by myself. I hate to say this here, but I admire the "green" groups and the "anti-access" groups...because of their organizational skills. If the day EVER comes that we, the OHVers, can organize as well as these other groups, WE too can ensure we have places to continue our sport.

Forum: General Discussion

Christian 4x4 Club??

A guy on another forum asked me to post this for him. He is trying to start a club in Cookeville for Christian wheelers. I have received several messages in the past from ppl looking for an organization such as his. Here is his message.

My name is Jeremi Taylor and I live in Cookeville Tn, I love to wheel and enjoy what the good Lord has blessed us with. I am wanting to promote a Christian based, family oriented club in the middle Tn area. If any of you are interested in talking with me or joining this type of Off-Road club, I will be holding the first meeting on Sat Sept 13, at Ryans Steakhouse in Cookeville at 7:00 P.M. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to post up or call me at (931)303-8772. I am looking forward to the fellowship and meeting new people who have the same interests and views about our Good Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. There are going to be some fliers floating around the area. I am going to put some in the Cookeville area at Rhino Linings of Cookeville and also at Outdoor Junction and anywhere else that will alow me too. My Dad is going to take some to the T.O.R. shop the first of this week, so if you are interested feel free to go and pick one up. Thank You and God Bless.

Forum: 4X4 Talk
