We are still in need of those short stories for the anthology. Currently we have less than a quarter of what we need to be able to produce a good anthology.

Maximum of 12,000 words and any Cartwright can be your subject, or maybe you prefer to write about Candy, Hop Sing, or Griff, or perhaps Roy Coffee.

Deadline is 1st September - so less than 4 months to submit. Full details follow the link from the home page.

artists and proof readers wanted

I am still looking for a couple more artists and a couple mroe proof readers for the anthology.

Artists - need to be able to sketch and illustrate a story (copying from photos is not what is required) - please email me privately and attach a sketch of a scene depicting at least 2 of the Cartwrights.

Proofers - need to have a high level of English (American spelling) particularly good punctuation skills. A good knowledge of history an advantage to spot anomalies in stories.

Both jobs will be required in the period September - December 2008. Depending on number of stories accepted and number of volunteers I would expect artists to be asked to do approx 6 illustrations and proofers to be required to edit around 6 stories and then final proof about 6 more.

And of course we still need mroe good stories - clsoing date 1st September.

update on the Walter Awards

We have had a lot more nominations and while there are some categories where the top spot is going to be hard to overtake now, there are other categories where the lead keeps changing.

The two favorite episodes are now well ahead of their nearest rivals but second and third slot in each category are still wide open. 16 men have been nominated for best guest actor and 25 women for the female equivalent. There are 15 nominated villains and 10 nominated child actors. Best supporting regualr character is turning into a right royal battle between Roy and Hop Sing with Jamie coming in third so far.

In most of the other categories there is one clear leader but many vying for second and third. So get your votes in.

5 men have been nominated in both the best guest actor and best villain categories. But only one woman has made the best villain nominations. Maybe we don't think fo all those conniving women as villains!!!

Keep voting - the deadline for nominations is September 1st

sad news

It is with great personal sadness that I have to report the death yesterday of writer and stuntman, Alex Sharp. Alex's episodes are always at the top of any convention voting list and everyone's favorite The Hayburner is usually a runaway winner.

Alex joined us in 1999 and kept us all entertained and in fits of laughter with his great stories. He more than anyone inspired me to write Bonanza fan fiction and I;m sure he was the catalyst that made many more do the same.

I will be sending condolences on behalf of Bonanza Gold and Bonanza Conventions to his wife Keo.

He will be sadly missed at the 2009 convention.

Reference the conundrum - we now only have one query on a recent registration from California, if that could be you please contact me privately.

Our current numbers registered stands at 39. Are you going to make it 40, or are you going to add a new flag to our display. Plenty of states and countries not yet represented!

a conundrum - convention goers please read

Our convention numbers are growing but we have a conundrum - some 8 people have sent in forms but we have no record of any payment. If you have registered recently for the convention could you please check your credit card statements or bank accounts and let me know if payments have not been taken from your account.

The people come from California, Florida, Maryland, Tennesee, Arizona and one just says USA

I am searching for someone who can either carve, sculpt or make pottery models. If you have a talent for any of these things and think you could make an animal model (not very large) for the convention please email me or answer on the board.

update on convention ticket sales

I am delighted to say that we have 32 reservations so far. Of course this means that the special offer is now ended. The webpage will change shortly and two more flags will be added to our list. (Connecticut and Illinois)

If your country or state isn't represented yet then how about sending in your reservation to get your flag on the list.

Bonanza was screened in 72 countries, the 5 we have so far hardly scratches the surface. At previous conventions we have almost covered the USA map with our pin flags at registration. I'd like to see that happen again in 2009. 40 more states to go!

Help us to pay our deposits and plan the greatest celebration ever by making your registration and placing your deposit soon.

Still Nothing

I still haven't gotten an email from Bonanza Gold or a charge on my card. I'm mailing the form, again. Something is wrong with your renewal process. If I've tried a minimum of 5 times through mail and email to renew and get no results, perhaps other subscribers aren't as tenacious as me. If you're missing another 69 people, perhaps you need to look into problems on your end.

Can't Renew!!!!

I've been trying to renew my subscription for a month! I've emailed the form three times and mailed the card once. No charge on my credit card. No phone number to call, no way to contact you guys except email, which no one will answer. I'm trying this thread as a last resort. I DON'T WANT TO LOSE MY SUBSCRIPTION! Somebody help me.

Obviously we haven't had too many votes yet, but already there is a pattern, 8 of the top ten come from seasons 1 -6 and 6 of the top ten are comedies.

Get your registration in soon and add your favorites to the list.

Registering early allows us to know our budget and to make sure that we pack in everything we can to make the weekend enjoyable.

publicity - help required

We are in the process of producing a 3 fold flyer to advertize the convention. We will of course, be mailing these to our address list but we need your help to get them to people who don't read Bonanza Gold (yep, there are some) or who don't use the internet (remember if you were an adult when Bonanza first screened you are over retirement age now and many older people who didn't use computers for work don't use them at home either).

If you have a spring or summer event in your area that attracts western lovers (maybe a rodeo or memorabilia fair) or if you have an event aimed at the baby boomers of the 40's and 50's where Bonanza fans may attend then we need you! We will send you a pack of flyers and all you have to do is contact the organizers and ask if you may distribute them. This often entails no more than putting them in a prepared stand or on a table.

We'd also like to hear from anyone who has attended a previous convention and would be prepared to speak on local radio - email me at vicki@bonanza-convention.com for more details. Europe, Australasia, S. America and USA fans all required.
