Need Savage/Stevens advice for 6mmBR

I want to build an accurate long range prairie dog gun and want some advice. I want to use a 6mmBr cartridge and would only be using the action if I buy a complete factory rifle. I'm also doing all my own work, including building my own barrel block stock. I don't plan on carrying the rifle all day, either.

I considered going with a Stevens rifle, the only problem is that it has a blind magazine. If I go with a magazine, I would probably want a hinged floorplate. Also would want suggestions as far as what caliber to go with to ease feeding of the 6mmbr cartridge if I went with a factory rifle.

This leads to buying a factory Savage rifle. But if I go that route, I may as well go with their precision actions. The main thing I would want to know on these is the difference between the target action, varmint action, and the sporter action. They all appear to be single shot, which I can live with. So I'm assuming there is no cutout on the lower side. I know that some custom builders have a tolerance differences between the target and the varmint actions. The only differences I can see is the target trigger and chrome-moly vs. stainless.

Any suggestions or comments on prior experience would be appreciated.

I read a posr on here about using citranox in an ultrasonic cleaner, posted by Gunamonth. It sounded great and I was looking to try it. The post was almost 2 years old and the link was not available. Best powder for 87 gr V-max in 6mmBr

I am currently using 31.5 grains of Varget in a standard 6mmBr case with 87 grain V-max's and getting 3050 to 3075 fps. I was wondering if there was another powder choice to get more velocity?

This is strictly for PD shooting. Any info appreciated!

Rem VS Savage

My friend is looking in to a new factory rifle to do some informal shooting to 1000 yd. I know it will be 308 win , the rifles I thuoght Savage F/Tr or Rem 700 5R . Any preference ??
I know there are many parts avilable for Rem and Savage is becoming more popular so aftermarket parts wonn't be a issue.

Sightron SIII - satisfied customer

Bought a Sightron SIII 8-32x56 from Larry Scott in Western Ky recently. Great customer service and good price.

The scope has performed really well hasnt missed a beat in fact. Holds zero well, the glass is nice and clear, better than the NF BR model and Leupold MKIV, in my view - and on par with the NF NXS. Very good clarity and contrast, considering the price tag (~$800USD). Adjustments are all repeatable.

Use it on an f-class rig which I shot a range record with last weekend. Warm day with plenty of mirage. Nothing wrong with that glass...

Itd be fantastic if they did it in an exposed target turret like a MKIV or NXS. Maybe in the future :)

Measuring shoulder bump

How to measure the amount of shoulder bump when resizing brass? I've been measuring from base to datum line, because I have the tools to measure those points, but realized I don't know that is necessarily accurate. I've been assuming the die presses on the shoulder of the case, so pressing the shoulder moves the brass below below an equal amount... ?

Reality check on 243 max load using 95gr Berger VLD

OK, I know that QuickLoad shouldn't be used in isolation to generate load data.

But, QuickLoad is giving me estimates that around 49gr of H-4831 SC is the max given my case capacity (55.6 gr of H20), seating depth (2.880) and barrel length (26 inches) - generating about 3156 fps.

The books I'm checking are all listing between 44.5 and 45.5 gr as their max.

I'm not used to seeing this much of a difference in max loads between QL and my books.

Is anyone else safely using around 49gr of H-4831 in their 243?
