Prior Service Branch, if any USMC RateRate;Title:Yrs. of Service, if applicable PFC / 3 years/ Camp Pendleton Calif. Comments: I don't know if any of you guys remember this or not as I don't see it in the ships history log. But in the summer of 1957 I was with the 3rd Batallion First Marines on manuvers off the coast of California. We made a beach landing on what should have been campendleton property. It was quite foggy that morning and still a little dark. We churned around in the choppy waters untill everyone was formed up and headed toward shore. We made our landing that day and caught the enemy totally off guard. We were attacking a civilian beach with bathers and sun worshipers waiting for the fog to clear. Funny part was that we couldn't get back on the boats because they wouldn't get off the sand bars. We spent most of the day getting fed hotdogs and hambergers by our civilian hosts. It was great.
Comments: I just read a letter from my mother to my father dated Dec. 1, 1945 sent to him while he was on the USS Bexar as a marine lieutenant. This signature is in honor of my father, Robert H. Johnson Jr. (1923-2007) and to all others who served and serve our country. Be proud and thank you!

Prior Service Branch, if any U. S. Navy RateRate;Title:Yrs. of Service, if applicable BT Comments: Served on Bexar from Dec. 1963 until Jan. 1968. Reported on board right out of Boot Camp made BT2 before getting out. Left the Bexar in Pearl flew back to the states for discharge. Went home to Georgia, but then after a few years I went back in the Navy and retired back in 1985. Been looking at all of the ships that I spent time on. Bexar was the first and to me still is number ONE. The best ship and crew. B&M, A&E were pretty close back then. Had a lot of great times in some liberty ports. Hoping to hear from a few of you guys. Looking over the other postings some of the names do not connect way before my time. But then some of the names I can even put a face to. Of course the faces have all changed with age or rather maturity. Everything here in North Florida is great, still have a little money left over to by a beer or two, but if gas goes up much more that may change. Well any of you guys that have the time write me a line or two. Hope that you have smooth seas and fair skies. Jim Bruce |
