Date of Retreat: none Comments: After reflecting on yesterday's closing mass at St. Gabriel's , I realized that my family has been attending Sunday Mass at St. Gabriel's since 1988 whenever we are on the island. We have been blessed to call Shelter Island our second home since 2002. An even larger blessing has been to witness dozens of closing masses for youth groups from across NYC and Long Island. The wonderful exuberance with which you express your faith is illuminating, a reminder of just how much joy there is in a life in Christ. Today, as many preists concelebrated at the closing mass, it was difficult not to be filled with sadness that this woulderful place is closing. St. Gabriel's is not just a retreat house, it is a sanctuary with hallowed grounds. One only needs to attend "mass on the grass" and be bathed in a cool summer breeze blowing off Coecle's Harbor to be reminded as Pope JP II told us, the wind is a sign of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Father Chris and Father Vincent and all of the Passionists. You may have been running programs for youth, but you blessed us all.
Date of Retreat: 6/5/09-6/7/09 Comments: This was my first time at St.Gabes and I have to say it was the best experience of my life. I never had a time where I was bored. That whole weekend, I was not stressed at all. As soon as I got there,my stress was just all relieved. There are sooo many memories here at this place and I am so upset that this might be the last year. :[ I'm so grateful that I did get to go though and I did get to experience it. And I'm also very grateful that I got to go to the closing mass..it was nice to be back for (maybe) one last time. I cried my eyes out during the whole mass but I still was very glad to be back. I'm praying for St.Gabes to stay open and there will always be a special place in my heart for it. <3
School: Assumption Youth Ministry Date of Retreat: May 8-10 Comments: I've gone to 4 retreats at Saint Gabe's and also did the Youth Leader program there a few years ago. Saint Gabe's helped me to find my faith as well as find myself. Had it not been for Saint Gabe's I doubt I would really have any faith. It is such a peaceful place and I feel blessed to have been able to go there. I am going to miss Saint Gabe's, but know that it will be with me every day and I will be able to encorporate all I've learned there into my daily life.
School: St William the abbot "SWAT" Comments: Ive been here for 9 retreats not one was boring or not interesting. im am so sad that knowing that this past year might be my last year. i will never forget the feeling of getting on the ferry and all my problems and stress would stay there and when i would go home they would not be there cause i feel like god had answered me in fixing everything. i would be in the worst mood and as soon as i pulled onto that driveway i felt relived of everything. From Fr.leo and Fr. Chris to all the retreat teams over the years you all did a fantasic job.The memories that i have of st. gabes i will not ever forget. i just cant belive that it has to end so soon.There will always be a place in my heart just for saint gabes. There was a time in my life that i didnt know what to do and i was heading down the wrong path and i went to st. gabes and it changed my life for ever.Im just so sad that i cant be there for the last mass, but ill be there in sprit and i will stop what ever im doin at 11AM to pray. School: Saint Anne's Date of Retreat: may 19-20 Comments: Well I just wanted to let you know our retreat to saint gabes was the best trip with my classmates I've ever been on. Thanks ABC for making my time at saint gabes a memorable experience. The times I had here with my 8th grade I will keep with me forever.

School: Division Ave High School Date of Retreat: April 17 - 19 Comments: I had really a great time at saint Gabes.I wish it didn't had to go. This was a mini vacation for me to get rid of all the stress that was goin on in my head. ABC you guys are the greatest. I forgot to say this at my retreat but i'll say it now if you are taking saint Gabes away that means you are taking god away from that spiritual youth center.
