Comments: Marc was a sensational artist who I had lost track of until recently. He released one of the best albums of the 70s - Minnows - and his style and class was on a very high level. It would be great to see him tour the Northeast again...

Comments: Marc, as "Ramblin' Jim Martin" I wrote music criticism for John Bryan's alternative weekly, Open City, when you and Leon were releasing the first Asylum Choir album, which I loved. You guys took out an ad in the paper -- a risque ad that got the newspaper busted for obscenity by the LAPD. It showed the two of you with a couple of naked groupies sitting on your laps. I thought the ad was great, but that Lp was greater. Some critics said it was "over-producded," but I didn't thnk so. (Usually, this was the charge leveled against any album that had good production.) I still have the demo dub and wouldn't part with it for anything. I had lost track of your career after the Russell days (as you know, he moved back to the homeland and, I think, married a soul singer). I hadn't even known you were from Texas originally. That you've made a good solo career is wonderful. Take care, --James Martin |
