Welcome, Linda!

Yes, seeing him as Hans Gruber was the first time my jaw hit the floor and I thought, "who IS this guy?"

Your comment about the 20 screaming babies made me laugh.  There would also be 20 swooning mothers, I think.  :thud:

I am new to this site, but not to being a fan of Alan Rickman.  I first fell under his spell as Hans in Die Hard.  He may have been a bad guy, but what a sexy one he was!!  My favorite, however, is his Brandon in Sense and Sensibility.  He is incredibly handsome and sexy and his character is the utmost as a British gentleman.  Also, that VOICE!  He could walk into a room with 20 screaming babies and speak and it would be quiet in 60 seconds.  He has the most calming and gentle voice I have ever heard.  AND for us grown women, the sexiest voice of all time.

Woo-Hoo! It's Friday!!    I am SO ready for the weekend.  A Happy Mother's Day to all the Mom's out there this Sunday.  I'm afraid I will be hosting the Mother's day dinner so, no easy day for me.  It will be a lot of:   and finally......

I think after everyone leaves on Sunday, I'll prop my feet up and watch Sweeney Todd.

I think when there is an Alan drought there is a communication drought,,,,,,but atleast there be no snipiness like other droughts tend to bring up.........

I got ST the day it came out and would you believe it that four of my friends have borrowed it ( and all have loved it) and i have not had a chance to watch it since the day i bought it......must get back, must watch. I have actually had two of the four say
" how could you watch that being an Alan Rickman fan", in which i reply,,,,,,,,,,,,," its hard, its damn hard".

Hey, Alfan!!  Well, technically, the calendar says that my busy season should be over....but I seem to still be up to my eyeballs with work.

Would you believe I've had these DVD's for a week now and I've only managed to watch the first two segments of the "extras" disc!  I haven't watched either of the films yet....I just can't seem to grab enough free time.  I did see S.T. in the theater, but I haven't watched MBJ yet.  *sigh*  I know I'll eventually get to it.

So......WHERE IS EVERYBODY???   It's been awfully quiet here.  You guys make a lurker very lonely.

Glad to see some activity over here again.

I bought the double-disc addition too!  It hasn't arrived yet...got a message today from Amazon that they shipped it so I can't wait!  I also ordered "My Boy Jack", sight-unseen.  I don't know what possessed me.  Maybe it was the amazon gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket and I just had to spend, spend, spend!

I def would buy it alone for the extra's but then again im an extra girl. There isnt a huge amount of Alan in the extra's except for what we already have seen but the other things like the ST Press Conference is absolutly halarious. I am a Johnny fan too so it was worth the money, ibought the double disc edition.

Hi everyone and HAPPY SPRINGTIME!!!!!!!!!!
I was surprised when I came on and didnt see any new entries. I was the last one in February..(How to kill a thread-HA HA)
At any rate, I was wondering if anyone got the new Sweeney Todd DVD yet and could let me know (and others) if it is worth buying for all the extra goodies. I heard from a couple of people that it was pretty good.
Hope to see people back on here soon. Miss the chi-chat and little drawings.
Take care all. Off to work.

Pam, maybe you could pour the mix into a 9x13 cake pan or a cookie sheet with edges (I think those are technically jelly roll pans) and just make bar cookies?  You could drizzle icing over them and cut them on the diagonal to make diamond shaped bars.

Great.  Now I'm getting hungry.

Hi everyone!
Does anyone here for a simple recipe for a gingerbread cake? I bought some mix for cookies at christmas (I have one package left)  and wanted to use it up. Do you think I can just mix it up according to the directions and put it in a bundt pan? Any other recipes? I fgured this was a very clever and creative group and could come here for any advice.
Thanks guys and have a good AR day.

Hi guys and Happy New Year again!

Dumpy, I love Tigger. He is so cool and really enjoyed watching the Pooh series when my son was little. This coming week the weather is finally going UP!! WOO-HOO

It is supposed to be in the 40's and 50's, thank goodness, after below zero wind chills last thursday/friday when the temp hardly got to 20 degrees,brrr..

If you guys got the new HP movie for Christmas (order of the Phoenix) you dont need to install the second disc in the PC it works just fine on the DVD. When you read it, it looks like it has to be but it played fine in the DVD and we got to see everything including a behind the scenes tour with Tonks.  She is a riot, no wonder they chose her for the role. It also has many extras with Alan and worth viewing.

Well off to get things in order for tomorrow for school/work. Have a nice week all and again Happy New Year and all the best for this wonderful new year of 2008.

Things are finally going doo around here-my son has improved and the two girls in our church are recovering nicely from their wounds from last summer.
Dumpy, I love all the smilies you made on the other page. It must have taken you quite a while to do. You certainly have come a long way with your art. I always liked it but think you are doing a wonderful job now with all your added "extras". Keep up the good work and God Bless.
Enjoy the holiday everyone.

Alfan, what a great idea! here it seems the most appreciated thing is playing fast; I think people have forgotten golf is supposed to teach relaxation, especially the younger generation.

On a lighter note:

I'm not being picky
I'm just being honest

Purple is for Lent, not Christmas.

Turquoise blue is the color for Christmas lights, not dark blue.

So, you all, how about, support yourself, plus one other, in terms of helping the poor?

Welcome to all the newbies

I just came across this article: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/25/world/europe/25czar.html?pagewanted=1&_r=2

Maybe it is old news but apparently this summer, they've finally found the two missing bodies of the Romanov family...Aleksei and one of the missing sisters.

Just a bit of trivia to round out your day.

OMG! The "Free Rice" page -- guess the meanings of some obscure words and, for every correct guess they donate ten grains of rice to UN hunger programs -- is addictive.

Some words i loved: "snark" "beamish" "grok" "wyvern" (a dragon) "magus" (a sorcerer) . . . .

I hope they're work is for real -- it's a great time-waster for the bibliophiles here.

How I Became Smitten:

1. Die Hard -- loved his wit and his voice, and then I forgot about it.

2. Robin Hood -- Overall, it's WAAAAY to cartoon-like for my taste, but he had great comic timing and a wicked glint in his eyes. I either turn it off or LOL )

3. A few years later, I had to decide on a college major: should it be my first love (history) or something practical and boring? Sleepless, I watched most of TMD on local late night TV. *A bow twangs*

Could I remember Alan's voice and eyes and smirk after two movies? No. I found the "Alan Rickman Guestbook" and half.com -- and eBay. My computer screen, my video library, and at least one 2" ring binder of photos and clippings have received the results.

I'd love to stay, but, I have to be up early tomorrow.

Big Challenge (ignore this if you don't have a lot of time, I've been looking for months):

On  public TV, I saw "Sister Wendy" showing a sketch of a man and woman embracing (nude), but I cannot remember the title.

I have a piece of sticky paper, with a marble print on it, and part of it, looks remarkably like that sketch! just recently I learned Sister Wendy is a self-taught art critic from Britain (?)...surely someone else saw that sketch.

Once I visisted Dee's site and told her about it on her guestbook, but I can't find the guestbook anymore. I don't think she comes in here, anyway,
But --- I would be absolutely amazed if someone can find that sketch, it would be really amusing if that sketch appeared by conincidence on my decorative marble paper!!

Hope we are never forced in any way to vote; neither by social pressure, law, insistence of criminals, etc.

I say, if you don't like any of the candidates, you don't have to vote.

With forced voting,  if all the candidates were corrupt, you would be forced to vote for someone you don't want in office.

Voting must always be voluntary.

I've always tried to follow the political scene here but this fall I decided to get more involved. I always vote but I figured if I was going to complain about anything I should get involved in some way no matter how small. There's a lot more ito it than I realized but I found it informative and interesting.

Thanks for your reply, Semper. I thought it had to do with Alan Rickman and why he looks so well rested lately, as discussed today on the ARDH GB, I was way off!

Nowadays, with the media, politicians do become quite well known and can even get fans, too. I thought maybe she had a fan following because she was once in theater, for example. Wonder if she'll ever go back to acting?
