Dear Art,

May I draw your attention to the outright winner of a Television talent contest in France, who stunned the poeple of France with his angelic voice, but who then collapsed and died of a disease which he had suffered since birth yet had told no-one of it.

Gregory Lemarchal took the whole of France, Switzerland and Belgium by storm with his rendition of "Et maintenant" (What now my love) and in a run-up heat of the contest the song whose lyrics rang so true for him "Pourqoui je vis, pourqoui je meurt......" (why am I living, why am I dying.....).

I discovered Gregory Lemarchal on youtube and thought I'd discovered a rising star.
I was particularly impressed with his stage presence and his expertise in using the TV cameras like an experienced performer.
His voice, still sounding typically "young" I found nonetheless, to be highly polished, and very emotional.

This young man, after winning the Star Academy TV talent show, went on to sing with top entertainers, did his first European tour, then collapsed, in dire need of an organ transplant.
The whole of Euope went into mourning for this extremely talented young man, and several celebrities paid their respects at his funeral.

Gregory Lemarchals' parents started a charity fund with the money he earned from his shortlived success.

It would help the charity enormously if more celebrities like yourself became involved in some way in this charity which was set-up in the interests of research into the causes and possible cures of cystic fibrosis.

Thank you for your time, and thank you for all the wonderful songs you have sung, which since my teens, I have held dear.

As an ex-entertainer myself (BBC Radio singer & vocalist in The Don Malby Orchestra) I wish you continued success.

Sincerely,

Steve Gilbert

Dear Art,
I hope this message goes through. I have written before, but for some reason it doesn't go through, perhaps I am too computer illiterate, or perhaps my server sucks.
Anyway, what I was saying is how much I enjoy your prose to Kathryn, how beautifully romantic.
Also, I hope to see you one day at the Jacksonville, OR music concert series...it's fairly close to home, I live in a very small town many miles from nowhere, to borrow from Cat Stevens.
I have been a fan of yours and Paul's since I was a small child and one of the first albums I ever purchased with my own money was Angel Clare, and I have most of your solo efforts, from the above mentioned to Some Enchanted Evening.
Thank you so much for your beautiful music, voice, poetry and being an inspiration to a very shy person, who seems to lose her shyness when she sings...albeit not as well as she thinks she does, but that is okay, because singing is a gift from God.
I believe He gave you that gift in abundance.
Thank you and God Bless you and your beautiful family.

Mr. Garfunkel,

I just want to tell you that I was in heaven when you came to Salem, VA. I am 43 years-old, yet I have enjoyed your singing for years and it was such a moving experience to finally hear you in person, rather than on CD. I wanted to run up to the stage and act like a wild fan, but my husband asked me not to.

I hope all is well.

I totally enjoyed your outstanding performance in Salem, Virginia. I was born in the early 60's and have always followed your music starting at an early age, with my parents loving you as well. I have continued to follow you and my four children and husband love and adore you as well. I will always treasure this concert, and hope to see another one someday.

Hi Artie,
It's been along time since the day I walked into my office next to Paul's in Katonah and found you playing my guitar. As you may know I moved my office to Greenwich where I have a thriving Architectural practice! I'm writing to say hi and hope your well!
I just bought your Live in 69 album at Starbucks this saturday morning and went straight to my office to listen to it while I work. I can't explain but when you started to sing For Emily, Whenever I may find her, I burst into tears. All I can imagine is that your song has a major connection to something I can't recall! Wow whatever it is...it feels right & I can't recall the last time I cried.
Quick update... Amy & I have 2 boys...both sophmores. Ted @ Roger Williams in Bristol RI and Ian @ Wilton Highschool. Ted is majoring in finance & has a radio show at school. Ian has a wall of guitars and a band to go with it. I'm having so much fun! I really hope you are too! Here is a link to my website that Ted built and a window to some of the work I've been up to since I saw you last. http://www.ergarchitect.com Btw. I have designed several new restaurants and I am currently doing a cool one @ 132 W.58th, they have yet to decide on a name but it will be open this summer. Take care & enjoy the success of your new album...you deserve it!!! Ron

Hi, Art!

Thank you very much for this site, for allowing us to share our emotions and appreciations for having you. Thanks for the beautiful and nostalgic memories brought by your songs to our life. I thanks GOD for having you, your heavenly / angelic voice. If feel so sad and lost, your music is so calming that it soothes my spirit. All I pray this time, that I would be able to see you in person during your performance. If you have a chance to perform in my country Philippines (very remote of course), please publish it few months before that so I can arrange to go home to watch your show. I bet you, so many of us are waiting for you there in Manila.
GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS and YOUR FAMILY.

Art -
Your benefit concert the other night at Adath Jeshurun Synagogue here in Minneapolis was spectacular. Your voice sounded beautiful, the band was excellent, and the song selection was superb.

I really appreciated your comments between songs and it was a very enjoyable evening all around -- the room was a perfect mix of sound, light, and song.

Hello Art -
This morning I heard you sing "Barbara Allen" on the XM Folk Channel, and was so taken with the clarity and beauty of your voice, I stayed in my car to listen even though I had already arrived at work. I just bought the MP3 of it on-line. Now, I am interested in reading your poetry and in your obsession with walking since I learned of it on your web site. The first concert I ever attended as a teenager was you and Paul in Columbia, Maryland. Now, I live in Oakland, California. My hope is that I have the opportunity to see you out West sometime - maybe Mountain Winery in Saratoga? It was always YOUR voice that attracted me to the duo.

A very serious fan of Mr. Art Garfunkel. His songs, of course with Mr. Paul Simon are very powerful emotionally laden part of my younger years when I was on my late teen to early 20. Coming from a 3rd world country, the Philippines, their songs in that movie great "the graduates" make that part of my life alive because of their great music. Bridge Over Troubled Water is a very soothing that relax my spirit at any time i felt the turmoil of this world. As of now, I have some of his old musics (CD) which I found in some old stores here in Saudi Arabia. Together with his last team -up performance "old friends", and earlier performance with Mr. Simon, these songs are my life here in the Middle East. GOD Bless U, Mr. Art Garfunkel. We are lucky to have your voices, music and part of your life also ours.

I have enjoyed your music [both as a duo and a solo performer] since the early 60's. I finally saw and heard you the other night in Colorado Springs. I expected a great show and I got, at least, that much. I had a wonderful time. Thank you

I want to thank Mr. Garfunkel for his performance at Beaver Creek last week; I really feel he gave everyone in the audience a gift that I wish I could hold forever. But you cannot - the sounds fly away from you.

I wanted to return the favor with two poems I don't know if Mr. Garfunkel will know. One is The Flying Change by Henry Taylor and the other is The Onion Memory by Craig Raine.

And I wanted to say how glad I was to hear of your two year old joy with Beau. I don't have children and I don't know if Beau is the only one but such a joy, you deserve.

Thanks again,

Mary De Filippis

Dear Mr Garfunkel, I was lucky enough to see your show with Paul Simon in Minnesota. I brought my daughter and we were mesmerized by the beauty of your songs and the magic your voices made. It was incredible to sit in a huge arena and be able to hear a pin drop because everyone was silent. Every note was heard clearly and every melody was cherished. My daughter and I realized we were in the presence of such greatness and were witnessing history. Thank you for the music that speaks to hearts and paints wonderful pictures. We will always treasure the chance we had to be in that audience. Please keep making music and reaching out to the next generations. Karen

Dear Art,
My husband and I attended your Valentine's day concert at Strathmore Hall in Bethesda, MD. What a romantic way to spend the holiday evening with the most romantic singer of all! You were wonderful--putting so much feeling in the songs, and hitting all the high notes. Your range is amazing. I especially liked Bright Eyes and Bridge Over Troubled Waters. I have most of your cds. My favorite is Fate For Breakfast--so much heart and soul in those songs.

My brother Bob Miller sang with you a few times during your reunion sessions with the Columbia Kingsmen in New York in the 60's. He said you had a beautiful voice and were a nice guy. I agree! Anyway, thanks for a wonderful Valentine's Day concert!

Sincerely,
Barbara Mullins

Dear Art,

I've been a fan since I've been a little boy, in the days of S and G. I have seen you with Paul several times- at Avery Fisher in 75, in the Central Park show, at Westbury several times, at Carnegie Hall a few times, and at The Lincoln center show almost a year ago. You still have it. Your voice is wonderful, and its always a pleasure to hear you sing. Thanks for all the years of wonderful music, and keep it up. And may you bring music to us for many more years

Today I read in the StarTribune Newspaper that you are playing in Minnesota on April 9th at Adath Jeshurun Congregation in Minnetonka. I cannot explain how excited I am about that!! I dont know how much the tickets will be, but I will take out a loan if I have too in order to at least bring my son and both my parents. I want to bring my 18 yr old son because he is self-taught in guitar and writing/publically singing his own songs. (I have been playing your music as an inspiration for him.) I want to bring my parents because my Dad turned 75 this month, and my parents will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this year. This would be a wonderful gift to them because they, to this day, still listen to your music. If I am able to aquire tickets for this showing, is there any way I could request that you dedicate a song to my parents (Bill and Sigrid Steever)? It doesnt matter which one, although I will never forget my mom saying "always remember me with the song "like a bridge over trouble waters"
Even if I am not able to obtain tickets, would you please dedicate a song to them? We will be the faces plastered against the windows looking in.
Thank you!!
