Comments: For those of you who subscribe to the South Dakota Magazine, I call your attention to two stories in the May/June issue that relate to a couple of our Episcopal families. There is a story about Johnny Cloud, Marlene Campbell's father, that is extremely interesting. And the picture of Marlene is beautiful. (Today's notice from the Diocese told us that Goldie Cloud had died. Mr. Hunhoff visited with her last November when he did the interview) Also, The Reverend Linda Kramer, who established the Borderlands Retreat Center several years ago, literally saved the Reynolds Prairie, a historic and sacred meadow in the Black Hills, from development--by placing a bid for the property that gave Borderlands the purchase. She took a bold step to make it happen. The story is in this May/June issue .
Comments: I saw this on episcopal cafe' and wanted to pass it on to others. Scam alert Some readers have asked about a company called anglican films that advertises videos for churches. Be aware that it is a scam. The alert sent to all Episcopal Communicators follows: Warning: Anglican Films Discovered as Suspected Scam: The company Anglican Films is a scam. According to Skip Schueddig, director of the Episcopal Media Center in Atlanta, the company, through unsolicited emails, phishes for email data and credit card information. The site anglicanfilms.com looks legitimate; however, when a priest from the Diocese of East Tennessee, who ordered a DVD in July, checked on her order, she received another email saying they were unexpectedly swamped with orders. The domain of the email address is newsdocumentary.com, which looks like a replication house. The priest has not been able to connect with a real person. Several diocesan publications, including The Episcopal Church in Georgia (CIGA), printed the announcement about the release of new church-related DVDs from this bogus company. If you know of anyone who has placed an order with Anglican Films, have them contact their credit card company immediately.
Comments: Kristinn, thank you for your accounting of your time at Frank's retirement party. I had so wanted to be there, but could not work out the logistics for the time I could be away. I had a great E-mail from Frank sharing with me who was to be there and that they would miss me. Bill and I enjoyed our time in Pierre with Father Clark as priest at Trinity, Pierre. Visited them several times after they moved on to the Cathedral in Fargo--and even spent a week with them in Peoria, where we connected with The late Bishop Walter Jones and Marilyn. We have so many good memories of the Clark's!!! Their son, Andy, lived with us his last six months at the University of SD. Frank and Carol came for his graduation and were our house guests. So it was good to hear that a few South Dakotans made it to his retirement party. I had lost track of Jan and Art Wilner (old Pierrites, also, as well as cursillistas) so was glad to know they are hale and hearty...Inez L. Harris
Comments: Greetings to all from Phoenix, Arizona! I've just had a lovely day reconnecting with my history in South Dakota. I had lunch with Art and Jan Wilner and some mutual friends (the world is quite small) who live in Scottsdale where Jan is a deacon serving Westminster Retirement Village (although listening to her schedule, she doesn't sound very "retired"). We trekked together to the Northwest Valley to celebrate Fr. Frank Clark's retirement party. His children and their families were also in attendance and there was much laughter, joy, and palpable affection and gratitude for his and Carol's years of service at All Saints. The world is really such a small place these days and it was amazing to see the number of threads/relationships that have come and gone and come back into the fabric of our lives. As for me, my time at ASU will finish in May and I am planning to hike the Camino Frances from the Pyrennes on the French side to Santiago Campostela in Spain, continuing to the Atlantic Ocean at Finisterre. It will be a 550 mile pilgrimage in the path of the way of St. James--a physical and spiritual challenge. All my best and much affection to my friends in South Dakota.
