Where are you now? North Huntingdon
Comments: Hello Everyone!
I am a alumni from 1980. I am a parent of 2 children. My youngest plays trombone in the Norwin band and my oldest is now an alumni himself. He is studying music performance at Youngstown State.
As a Norwin Band Aide, I want to encourage you all to keep up with what the Norwin Band is doing and help out by attending events and fundraisers.
Norwin is playing host to WGI's Pittsburgh Regional Saturday Feb. 21st. We were the first venue for WGI to completely fill up for it's event! We will host 50 units from 5 states! Details for the event can be found on WGI's web site http://www.wgi.org.
The band parents will also host a "Knight at the Races" on Saturday April 25th at the Irwin Moose. Why not get a few friends together and start a "mini" reunion and come join the fun? Details for this event can be found on the Norwin Band website http://www.norwinband.net

Where are you now? Still in Bradenton, Florida
Comments: Carl, Carl, Carl.....I never played SAX....I marched in Drumline and played the bells...Don't you remember how L.J. use to take my sticks because he did not like the bells...Look at the Year book. The bells laid in a box instead of up and down. My brother Alan played the Sax and Clarinet. I use to go to drum practice once a week in the evening, with Eric Johnson, Howard Pence, Johnnie On Cymbals A.K.A (Mouse).... Terry Mardell, Roger Munday...Ring a bell yet ! Mike Blazer was our instructor back in the day. Melanie straighten him out would ya.

Where are you now? Augusta, GA
Comments: Great website, which I stumbled along today...oddly enough while I was searching the RCA(Hoosier) Dome which lead me to the MBA site and a link to Norwin H.S.
I had the best times of my life while in the band. Now I'm reliving those years as my 2 sons are in their school's marching band. Of course what else - they are percussionist too! But their school's band is not as involved as we were. Still good times for them and GREAT memories for me. Now I know what my parents had to deal with - God Bless Them!
I am the Assistant Director of Radiology at the Medical College of Georgia now. As mentioned I have 2 sons, and also a daughter. Ages; 17 (God help me!), 13, and 10. The 2 younger ones play competitive junior golf. So I spend alot of time traveling with them and caddying as well.
I read some of the postings, and want to say "Hey" translation of southern dialect - "hello" to my classmates and all those that participated in this great band. My email is rsabol@mcg.edu.

Comments: Hello all: It was nice to read through the messages (and recognize some names).
I've got two kids (daughter-10, son-8) and they are both into soccer, horses and band. I took them to their first band competitions this year and they absolutely loved it. My daughter plays the clarinet and my son still has a couple of years to decide. He has said that it will either be trumpet (surprise-not) or drums.
I took the kids to the Norwin, Kiski and PA State (@Gateway) competitions. I had not realized it, but I had never been a spectator (only a performer) at a band competition before that. Needless to say, the kids have said that they won't be the last competitions that we attend.

Wow, Ed Olsen/Rich 'tiny' Hartkins/Paul Armor/my old pal Mike Polczynski/great seeing so many familiar names here! I haven't been back to PA much over the last 20 years or so but still fondly remember my Norwin Band roots. I'd love to make it to some sort of reunion one of these days, put me on the email list just in case!

Where are you now? Associate Band Director for Norwin
Comments: Hello alumni!
I wanted to let you know about our new Norwin Band Website.
http://www.norwinband.net
Check out some of the pictures from this past season. It was great with a BOA Regional in Massillon, OH (2nd place), a BOA SUPER REGIONAL in St. Louis (9th place with 56 bands competing), and PIMBA State Contest (2nd place). The students did an outstanding job.....you would be proud. The tradition continues...
Now we start "concert season" which includes the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Percussion Ensemble. The Percussion Ensemble was invited to perform at this year's PMEA Convention. They were selected from over 130 CD entries statewide.
Have a great fall/winter!!

Where are you now? Homosassa Springs, FL
Comments: Hey Joyce, glad to see you finally made an appearance here! Between you, I and Carl, the 70's has a strong contingent!!! It was hoot having you & I together again as band parents with our kids at Southeast, especially with our parents in the stands. I wonder if our kids realize what an event that was.

Where are you now? Harrisburg, PA
Comments:
My name is Chuck Berkhouse. I played trumpet for several years at Norwin...........was involved in stage band, concert band, county band, chorus accompaniment, played taps for local military funerals, played for the marine annual beef roast at soldiers and sailors downtown, played in downtown irwin during the christmas holiday, and basically got involved in anything I could with "the band" while I was in high school/jr high school. Unfortunately I do not play trumpet more but I am still involved in music. Since graduation in 87 I really started getting in to electronic music production.
I've been out of school for over 20 years now (man do I feel old, 1987 grad!) and sometimes I think about how LJ helped me come out of my shell. He seemed to care about my music career and was very nurturing of it.......which helped me gain more confidence in all aspects of my life. Also, I really appreciate how LJ would get us to focus in and have us practice until everything was just so. He was demanding, but I see now (having teens of my own) how that is needed in our development in to young ladies/gentlemen. I also am glad that I did get a chance to come back to the school (I live in Harrisburg, PA now) and visit LJ before everything "went down".
Anyway, I'm rambling on and on.
I thought you might like to check out the material I've been doing. Maybe you can play in as background music at "the loft" if you like. You can check it out here:

Where are you now? S.E. Wisconsin
Comments: Wow, how the time has flown, but it's great to catch some updates and think about the old times!
Updating my info; my wife, daughter and I live in Milwaukee (not far from U.W. Whitewater (in fact we have a friend who teaches there)). We ended up here as she took a teaching position at a local Uni, and we decided we liked the area (except the winters... I REALLY am tired of snow!).
I'd love to hear from anyone from back then, so please feel free to drop a line!

Where are you now? State of confusion - aka Ohio, New Waterford to be exact.
Comments: Hey Joyce Crummy --> when did you graduate to the drum line? I seem to remember you marching a clarinet. You COULD have played the honorable alto sax like your brother Allan(Sp?).
Joyce tells me there is a reunion coming up. Ah, memory lane strolls!
Times have changed, haven't they? We used to march 8-to-5 or 6-to-5 in squads of 4 and in a "military" style. Now there is a 'pit', band personnel march in curves (instead of straight lines), there doesn't appear to be 'squads of 4', and the props!?!?! The shows still look great though!
Oh yeah, and does anyone remember how Mr. Radzevick would always remind us, "Win, lose, or draw, you WILL maintain your military bearing while you are out on the field!". It was a good lesson in discipline and working as a unit to get a job done.
OK, time to stop yapping. All the best to you. The Norwin Band has an excellent history. Here's to all the current band members who will be making more history!
Carl
