Military connection Leicestershire&Derbyshire Yeomanry Comments: Hi Gerry, I wondered if you have any contact with Trooper William(Bill) King.served 1961. He came to the LDY when working in Leicester. I always remember him driving the Regimental petrol three tonner down a short cut in Scotland. He sat with his beret pushed back on his head , a bottle of Guinness in one hand and a fag in the other, approaching a hairpin bend with a sheer drop on one side, Here hold my Guinness while I get round this he cried. He made the bend after reversing several times. He served with us for about two years always wearing NIH uniform before vanishing probably back to NI. I also had contact with NIH as part of LDY cadre at camps in Leyburn , Wretham A , and B,Norfolk. They paraded around the camp with saucepans sweeping brushes etc pretending to be the band. It would be nice to make contact with Bill again. Cheers john.
Comments: My father served for a total of 25 years with the 'colours', most of which was with the 'Skins'. His last years, however, were as the very proud RMS of the North Irish Horse. This is a fact that I and my family have always been most proud. I was brought up in Belfast along with my elder brother and younger sister, who was born there. And have always had the happiest memories and associations with my parents friends both from within the regiments and beyond. Long may such bonds endure in peace and friendship. And long may we respect such heros as made this possible.
Military connection Father Alfred Russell served In B Squ. Comments: My Father, L/Cpl A.Russell 7904927 joined the 'HORSE', as he called it, in Portrush and for a time was billeted in his own house. He served in B Squ. in England, North Africa and Italy being demobed in 1945. My eldest brother Dennis served in the RAF and did many bombing runs over Germany. My next brother served in the 7th Rajput Regiment in Burmha while I served for three years with the 3rd Royal Tank Regiment in Germany. Best regards to all survivors and present TA members |
